You don’t have to give up ice cream as a raw vegan.
You just have to upgrade your options.

Vegan ice cream choices tend to be limited and more expensive at the grocery store. No worries. If you have a food processor, you can make your own ice cream and sorbet with frozen fruit. This banana ice cream recipe is one I use on a weekly basis. Enjoy and Keep it Live!

Serves: 2

Prep time: 5 minutes

2 frozen bananas
2 TB hemp seeds or walnuts
1 TB mesquite
1 TB lucuma
2 tsp cacao or 1 TB of nibs
1 tsp maca
1/4 tsp vanilla powder
1/4 tsp cinnamon
pinch of salt

  1. Pre-cut banana if it is in large chunks.
  2. Place all items in food processor with the S-blade.
  3. Pulse ingredients together and then allow to run.
  4. Ice cream is finished when it forms into a ball and spins around food processor.
  5. Transfer to bowl and sprinkle with raw granola or cacao nibs.

  1. Awesome recipe!! I’m going to have to experiment with these extra ingredients.

I’ve made my share of banana soft serve but only add cacao powder, strawberries and vanilla extract as extras.

Thanks for the ideas Adam 🙂

    Hi Kevin,
Sorry to sound ignorant, but I have no idea what mesquite, lucuma, and maca are. Could you help me out?

I’ve found that ripe nectarines and peaches freeze really well if you toss them in the freezer unwashed and unpeeled. I make “ice cream” with them by simply running the frozen fruit under the hot tap so that the skin slips off and then cut the frozen flesh into a blender with a couple tablespoons of orange juice. A great way to say the harvest after going to a u-pickem farm. I just put the bag of fruit in the freezer after I take out what we plan to eat right away. Frozen mango, seedless grapes and pineapple are great sweeteners for frozen treats.

I’ve been throwing over ripe frozen peaches w/ some blueberries w/ a little water in the processor. Delicious for a hot day!
