Today, I got our new Geiger counter and I’m in the process of setting baseline readings throughout the house and outside.

I want to show you my new toy, as well as answer some questions about natural latex. Some of the questions I address in this video are why we don’t sleep on the floor, if latex mattresses have an odor, why you need a cotton cover for your natural latex mattress and a quick question on tea and if it can make you dehydrated.

Take a look…

Your question of the day: Tell us about a time that you were so star-struck that you made a fool of yourself… ๐Ÿ™‚

Kevin Gianni is a health author, activist and blogger. He started seriously researching personal and preventative natural health therapies in 2002 when he was struck with the reality that cancer ran deep in his family and if he didnโ€™t change the way he was living โ€” he might go down that same path. Since then, heโ€™s written and edited 6 books on the subject of natural health, diet and fitness. During this time, heโ€™s constantly been humbled by what experts claim they know and what actually is true. This has led him to experiment with many diets and protocols โ€” including vegan, raw food, fasting, medical treatments and more โ€” to find out what is myth and what really works in the real world.

Kevin has also traveled around the world searching for the best protocols, foods, medicines and clinics around and bringing them to the readers of his blog RenegadeHealth.com โ€” which is one of the most widely read natural health blogs in the world with hundreds of thousands of visitors a month from over 150 countries around the world.

  1. I met Ethan Hawke while I was on my lunch break when I worked in Manhattan. was getting some frozen yogurt {this was before my raw/vegan lifestyle change}. He was getting some froYo as well and I totally was star struck. I froze and didnt know what to say….like an idiot i mananged to mumble out a hi and nice to meet you. duh! anyway….thats my story.

  2. Ha.. I saw David Wolfe and Dave the Raw food trucker tonite and thought I would feel “star struck”. Wolfe does have a celebrity presence but I was actually turned off by this. I left early as it seemed to only be about product pushing. However I did appreciate the interview with him on “the great health debate”.

I am curious, you mentioned that Dr. Doug Graham would be the show this year… do you have dates for this? Have you read 80-10-10??

    Thank you!!

The singer/preformance artist/poet B*tch just played a concert at my house, and I was so excited to meet her because she is one of my favorites from way back. She brought her dog, and before I even had a chance to be introduced to her, MY dog (who was rescued) got starteled by the stranger in his yard and bit HER dog. Not only was I starstruck, I was so embarrased. But she was really nice and very cool about it. She gave my pup some great love.

We are contemplating a move to Seattle. My B12 and Vit D and other levels are great living here in Florida. I had them checked! My research finds that Seattle gets 58 days of sunshine per year, Florida gets 307 dsys of sunshine per year. How do people in the north stay healthy with those statistics? –Julie

I used to live in Notting Hill, so used to see ‘stars’ every week. I used to see so many that it was a normal occurence. I saw lots of musician, actors, tv presenters and others. Often doing mundane things like queueing up to buy veggies.

I was Grocery shopping in Marin after work one day and then Sean Penn walked in. I knew he had a house there but had no idea he basically lived down the street from us. That was the best grocery shopping trip ever. I didn’t have the guts to say anything though…I just stalked him through the aisles and watched other people approach him ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi guys. As far as the mattresses are concerned we should not forget that there are also a different types of natural fillings available which may even be a lot firmer than you guys imagine.I’m talking here about mattress filled with a brown coconut bark that is 100% natural and is as firm and heavy as a solid chunk of timber. I’ve always been looking for a most primitive and healthy way of relaxing muscles and bones and mind during the sleep and I’ve to tell you that since I found coconut mattress my sleep has improved as well as general functioning of the brain(my brain cell seem to cooperate more often :))).Anyways I’m fully respecting your latex choice and everybodyelses even the most squeeky piece of rusty spring but we must remember that the healthiest way to a restfull and regenerative nap is a bamboo mat on the bare ground or anything similar in terms of elctromagnetic condutivity and thus recharging our batteries during the sleep. By the way Kev and Ann you are both pure vibration of love and compassion and you are I suppose opening even further towards a greater goal, with Kev slowly accepting the beauty of Yoga which is certainly a tool or better a form of bridge used to help us get even closer and closer… remember though nobody builds a house on the bridge. So enjoy your ride as this truly is just a ride, like surfing on the biggest wave of Love and Truth. Peace and Love. Lukasz.

Years ago I was working at a restaurant up here in Washington state (where by the way us folk up here stay as healthy if not healthier with all our beautiful trees and fresh air, mountains, beaches etc. warm sunny summers, all the beautiful seasons as anybody else in another state, in reply to JT) anyway I waited on Martha Plimpton from the “Goonies” she wanted to keep a low profile so I didn’t get all goofy or anything, but it was cool meeting someone from a movie myself and my kids thoroughly enjoyed and it was filmed up here in Astoria too. She now does a show called “Raising Hope” Thanks for your wonderful caring family oriented atmosphere of information and fun stuff. Keep up the good work !!!!

  12. I don’t know if this story would count, but it’s embarrassing nonetheless. I had front-row seats for a Cyndi Lauper show (I was about 14 or 15) years ago. There was this little divider wall between the stage and the front row. She starts singing and walking along the wall. When she got to our section, we all raised our hands and shouted, “Wooo!” in typical concert fashion. Problem is… MY hand accidentally flew up her skirt. I SWEAR it wasn’t on purpose; I didn’t realize she was that close. She looked down at me really quickly and I yelled, “Oh, god! I’m SO SORRY!” I think she totally got that it was an accident and quickly laughed it off – all while not missing a beat in the song.

    Talk about mortifying…

This is going to sound probably really crazy to you guys, but when I was doing my educator training at the living foods institute you guys came by and I was too nervous to talk to you guys! So, you can say I was somewhat starstruck.

Also, I am thinking of doing some type of fundraising or charity to bring healthier foods-produce instead of processed foods- to families that have trouble with money. I know you have been talking a lot about this, so I would love to have your input and everyone else’s in the community! thanks

  14. Gina says:

Latex is nice. Wonder wshat you think about
just cotton? Mattresses used to be made that way before innerspings, I think.

  15. Gina says:

Congrats, Blair, for caring about you fellowman! I have been working with a Second Helpings program which picks up produce from large markets for redistribution. Similar programs exist in many areas or could be started. Check out http://www.rafi.com for a free download on starting community garden, partnering with nonprofits, churches etc. Offer to teach a class in healthy eating and food prep on a low budget as a community service. Education is really needed on How-to!

  16. Gina says:

Blair, Just realized that we met 12/09 at
    LFI.

  17. Jennifer says:

I live in Paris, France & have seen quite a few stars come through here. Molly Ringwald was at the Parc Monceau (about 15 years ago) having an argument with some guy who I assumed was her boyfriend. I was trying to get closer to hear what they were saying & actually tripped over the little kid I was baby-sitting. Poor kid fell off his tricycle! I felt like the world’s worst baby-sitter after that.

I’ve also seen Mick Jagger getting into a car in front of a fancy hotel. He’s a lot taller than I thought he would be.

I got back stage passes & met The Cure when I was a teenager. I got to hug Robert Smith & a friend of mine pulled a hair out of his head which she keeps in a film canister to this day (23 years later).

A friend of mine is a music journalist & so we often get to see concerts for free. She has met a ton of stars, even legends like Tony Curtis. She said he was very nice & flirty. She also tells me who’s stuck up & who’s nice. I get all the good gossip from her!

  18. Blair says:

Gina! I was just about to say that is an uncommon name and I thought I knew you hahah. I am thinking of living near you this summer and had been planning on contacting you to do work with you!!

  19. rachel says:

All cotton mattresses compact and get hard over time, they do not last long…
The PCRM and I believe Colin Campbell group have
a program to teach healthy food information to
poor people, Just got an e-mail about it.
Saw Itzach Perlman at a Violin Auction years ago, the only thing that came out of my mouth was “oh, a celebrity”…namaste’, R

  20. Bill Stringfellow says:

    Kev,

How much did you pay for your Geiger counter and where did you get it?

I have a latex mattress and love it!

  21. Mary says:

Thumbs up to Blair and thanks to Jennifer for the laughs!..I lived in Aix-en-Provence a long time ago.

I used to live in Miami Beach and South Beach when it began having its resurgence and many stars were there. I gave readings in some posh restaurants and a couple of nightclubs. I asked several stars if they wanted readings and got all “no’s”, though Sharon Stone came close and the rep she sent over to me said that she loved that sort of thing and would have but it was too late.

Gary Sinese was very nice when I approached him and we chatted. Cindy (the famous model whose last name escapes me!) came into the restaurant every night where I worked due to working on a movie. A man gave me $50 to get her autograph which she gave me because she “knew” me from seeing me there.

I saw Woody Harrelson at the health food store with his daughter who was dirty and running around freely and I thought he would be nice so I said “hello”, but he was kinda rude and blew me off.

And in the 80’s I saw Phillip Michael Thomas (whom I like and would later see at spiritual events I attended)in a health food store at the height of his fame. He was strutting around waiting to be noticed and no one paid him any attention! It was really funny.

    That’s it and Blessed Be!

  22. Thomas says:

    Hey Kevin!

If you want to save some money on lifting you mattress.. Use some wooden Pallets! You can get them anywhere, easy to move and very strong!!!
