Why I’m Scared of Cancer… (A Special Announcement)

kevin dad mom

You may or may not know some of my family health background…

I don’t share it too often, because it’s something that doesn’t always come up around the dinner table or at healthy potlucks (well, maybe it does there!)

Anyway, I’ll touch on it here a bit.

My father died of a brain tumor when I was 2 years old. My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer a decade and a half later. Luckily, she’s still with us.

I have other family members and family friends who’ve had cancer as well. Some have survived, others have not.

It took me a long time to realize that my own personal health journey was subconsciously driven by fear of getting cancer.

Cancer probably motivated me to run marathons, eat vegan, then raw. It likely inspired my motivation to research all different types of health modalities, treatments and cures.

I never spent too much time thinking about cancer, but my motivation to be healthy was too strong to be attributed to chance.

As this thought moved up through my various levels of consciousness — meaning “daily consideration.” I started doing my own cancer research. (This was only a few years ago, by the way.)

I had come to terms with the fact that I was afraid of getting cancer and I didn’t have any idea what to do if I got it.

So, I made a commitment to myself to find some answers.

The more I found, the more I wanted to share, but I also came to terms with the fact that I was afraid of what would happen to me if I started to share alternative (even though many are science based) treatments with the world. I like to shake things up, but I’m also cautious.

Ultimately, after some soul searching, I made the decision to make my findings public — the people, the clinics, and the doctors I found — because none of my fears were greater than the need to share.

I knew that if I was completely confused about how to prevent or treat cancer (if I was diagnosed) that there were millions of other people who I could assist.

I also didn’t want anyone else to go through what my family has had to go through. (Granted, we’re stronger because of it — there’s a blessing in every tragedy — but it would have been a lot easier otherwise.)

So one of my small contributions to the world — and, of course, to you — is to now present this important information about alternative cancer treatments. Not as a fear-monger or as a crazy, natural health lunatic, but as someone who knows what it’s like to be around cancer and the fear and unknown associated with it.

Last year, I produced the Healing Cancer World Summit and it was a massive success. We broadcast the event to over 50,000 people — totally free — online.

To continue my commitment to you, we’re doing it again in 2012.

The 2nd Annual Healing Cancer World Summit is a program that will build upon last year’s event. This year’s lectures are completely new and just as good — if not better than last year — and we’re expecting even more people to sign up.

The feedback we received most from last year’s presentations was “what are the steps to preventing or treating cancer?”

We listened to you and this year, the focus is on case studies — from the doctors and the survivors themselves. You’ll discover exactly how they prevent and treat cancer naturally.

I hope you find this valuable. It may just be what you, your family members or your friends need to eliminate the fear around cancer.

The program starts on October 31st, but registration starts today — October 9th, 2012.

Please be sure to sign up now to reserve your spot and listen in — completely free — from the comfort of your own home.

Here’s where you can go to watch a video and sign up now:

Kevin Gianni is a health author, activist and blogger. He started seriously researching personal and preventative natural health therapies in 2002 when he was struck with the reality that cancer ran deep in his family and if he didn’t change the way he was living — he might go down that same path. Since then, he’s written and edited 6 books on the subject of natural health, diet and fitness. During this time, he’s constantly been humbled by what experts claim they know and what actually is true. This has led him to experiment with many diets and protocols — including vegan, raw food, fasting, medical treatments and more — to find out what is myth and what really works in the real world.

Kevin has also traveled around the world searching for the best protocols, foods, medicines and clinics around and bringing them to the readers of his blog RenegadeHealth.com — which is one of the most widely read natural health blogs in the world with hundreds of thousands of visitors a month from over 150 countries around the world.

Kevin, being a breast cancer survivor and have undergone a bilateral mastectomy with lymph node dissections I want you to know I truly appreciate all you have done (loved last years HCWS) and am looking forward to this one!! I just wish I had known all this back in 2010, never the less I am grateful I lived through what I did, I have a totally new perspective in life and now appreciate the little things in life that really matter. Life is too short and I love who I have become because of my experience. Because of what I have learned through your blogs, research, your summits and reading and visiting a Nutritional Holistic Practitioner … I am cancer free and have never had chemo or radiation despite my conventional doctors and oncologists advice. May you continue to live strong and healthy so you can continue to educate others that there truly is another way to being Cancer FREE!!

    • Rebecca Davis says:

Great testimonial. So glad to hear another fabulous story of recovery through self responsible means.
You are one of many I have seen heard and known of over the past 20 some years.
      Now, go preach it!

  2. niko with a children animal heart says:

Thank you for the EVENT! again how do you feel if people stream it and shre it with people who need this information and its heard to get for them . maybe they not use internet or have a slow konnektion to internet or whatever. is it ok to stream and burn it on DVD and spread the word?!

  3. Lester says:

Thanks for your dedication. I don’t have any friends that went the holistic route with cancer and I don’t trust internet testimonials and opinions of most alternative therapists. Prevention sounds right but once diagnosed it seems that western medicine has more information with solid statistics almost universally agreed upon to base one’s decisions.

Could you give us an estimate of how many people have attempted to treated their cancer holistically? What’s the survival rate such as 5 year etc.? List the cancers in order of easiest to most difficult to treat and which therapies work best for each. Alternative medicine has so many options that making decisions is almost impossible. And then there’s the cost without insurance.

    • Tara says:

I know EXACTLY what you mean Lester. I was in that boat last year and just couldn’t find enough info or testimonials or stats to be convinced. I was freaking out big time. I got my hands on everything I needed TOO LATE! Just remember whatever happens to you or anyone you know DON”T let family and doctors pressure you into making hasty decisions. You usually have some time up your sleeve to give natural therapies a go. And yes, making the decision on WHICH natural therapy is hugely confusing and terrifying when faced with a cancer diagnosis.

  4. Mark says:

As the director of the Nutritional Oncology Research Institute, I can share these very important pieces to the cancer puzzle.

    1. Cancer is a metabolic disease characterized by dysfunctional mitochondria.

    2. Adequate selenium is essential for cancer prevention. Cancer may be a disease caused by a deficiency in

    3. Selenium is proving to have potential for cancer therapy. Specifically, sodium selenite is able to selectively
kill cancer cells at very low doses.

    4. High consumption of animal protein promotes tumor growth.

    5. There are metabolic targets unique to cancer cells that can be exploited through dietary modifications,
    natural compounds and herbs.

    6. Cancer can be successfully treated nutritionally and without any toxic pharmaceutical agents.

    7. Antibiotics may turn out to be the trigger for many forms of cancer as they have the potential to damage
    mitochondria which are essentially bacterium.

    8. Alternative therapies for cancer vary widely but most are a much better approach than conventional

    • Lexie says:

Your studies and research are definitely very interesting. Are you finding any toxicity problems with high doses of selenium?

      • NORI says:

There have been no toxicity issues with high dose selenium. There is a pretty wide zone of safety and there have been no adverse side effects.

If you are interested in more information, please contact me directly.

        • DavidM says:

Selenium can be toxic if it is synthetic. It also has almost zero antioxidant capacity when synthetic. You need to either consume it via whole food (brazil nuts) or a yeast based probiotic, or whole food supplement. When the form is correct, there is little concern for toxicity and you will get all of the amazing antioxidant and cancer preventative benefits.

          • NORI says:

Selenium exists either in an organic or inorganic form. Sodium selenite is an inorganic form that is commonly found in many supplements. There is no such thing as synthetic selenium.

Sodium selenite is not toxic up to about 70,000 micrograms per day. At levels between 5,000 to 20,000 micrograms
sodium selenite triggers apoptosis in cancer cells. This is a safe, non-toxic and a highly effective form of chemotherapy. Also very inexpensive. Sodium selenite has been known to selectively kill cancer cells for over 30
years. No money in something this cheap so no clinical studies until now.

Any toxic effects of excess selenium are reversible.

  5. Mark says:

    One more point……

In some cases, cancer can be treated by diet alone. A methionine restriction diet has been proven to regress tumors and I have personally seen patients improve on this protocol. Cancer cells can be easily starved of essential nutrients without causing harm to normal cells. Methionine is one of several nutrients that cancer cells are highly dependent on and can be lowered sufficiently in the plasma to starve cancer cells.

  6. Mark says:

I would love the opportunity to participate in the cancer summit as a contributor. I am not an MD but I train MDs
on my protocol. I am a scientist and clinical nutritionist. I feel that my research is unique and cutting-edge.
Your forum is a wonderful opportunity for this information to be shared among your readers.

Many thanks for everything you and Marie offer to the community.

  7. Susan says:

I relate to your feelings about being scared of Cancer. This was a terrific posting. I have a family tree loaded with Cancer cases and my mother died of a severe case of Multiple Sclerosis. I am passionate about living healthy and I constantly read up on the natural cures for every ailment. I am terrified of getting sick with Cancer and would not want to do chemotherapy. Yet, for Breast Cancer I see people who have lived and beat the disease going the conventional route. Now an argument could be made that surgery and alternative treatments may work just as well, but I hope I am never faced with that decision. I work very hard to be healthy bordering on obscession with my diet, sleep, and exercise. Your website is very informative and thank you for this post sharing your feelings as I now relate to you more as a human being, and not as a business. I appreciate what you are trying to do and I applaud your effort in sharing with the public. Susan

  8. Mark says:

Here is my personal view on the nature of cancer. Modern human life is a cancer upon this planet. Human activity is like a giant tumor invading the host, spreading uncontrollably, destroying natural life support systems and eventually killing everything in it’s path. Nature (or the planet’s immune system) is defenseless against the
destructive power of the human species. All of us are collectively a part of this cancer that will, in a short period of time, destroy our only home.

The disease, cancer, is only a symptom of the much larger cancer that has reached a critical mass on this earth.
Cancer is not a genetic disease but a metabolic dysfunction triggered by toxic chemicals, radiation, antibiotics, alcohol, pharmaceutical drugs, pesticides and nutritional excesses. Our mitochondria are extremely sensitive these environmental factors and become sick and dysfunctional. All cancers are characterized by mitochondria that are shut down and not able to sustain oxidative phosphorylation (TCA) cycle. A cancer cell is essentially burned out but hanging on to survive by reverting to a primitive fungus-like metabolism. Cancer can be cured at
an individual level but it will continue to plague us until we make major changes in our collective way of living on this earth.

The bigger problem in curing cancer is changing the way treat our mother earth. Unless we drastically change the way we live, the way we respect nature and the way we understand our impact on the ecology, we are doomed. Cancer is a signal from nature that is telling us that our ways are in disharmony and are disrespectful.
There are abundant warning signs coming to us everyday that are telling us that these diseases and illness affecting all of us are only symptoms of a problem much greater than us as individuals.

Cancer, when it finds any of us, is a disease that we all collectively share and are responsible for.

  9. Gale says:

Every woman on my mom’s side of the family, including my mom, all her sisters and now 2 cousins, have all died of colon cancer. Geneticists want my dna when I am diagnosed. I know exactly what I am going to do, opposite of what all the deceased women do, based on Linus Pauling’s research…… and I bet I will survive.

One of my dogs was diagnosed with lung cancer at the age of 9, and it was serious enough that the vet would not recommend any treatment and gave him little time to live. I took matters in my own hands, and he just turned 12 two weeks ago, much to the vet’s amazement. I am using LDN, WSO, barley grass, blueberries, cinnamon and essiac, and he is still vibrant and active, chasing the cat and playing with the puppy.

  10. Melissa says:

I am aware that cancer can be cured by a number of alternative modalities. Over 15 years ago i had a talk with a TCM practitioner, (traditional chinese medicine); and he told me he believe that cancers: specifically diseases that were linked with blood impurities such as leukemia could be cured with the use of chinese herbs, purifying the blood. Though i never had leukemia, i had cellulitis in one leg one summer & we were able to severly curb the infection with the use of herbs and acupuncture – & for my part meditation and a vegan lifestyle (of course i ‘quarantined’ myself to my apt. during this time, other than the times i visited his clinic); he was an older TCM practitioner who had immigrated from mainland China and had been taught by his father; he was brilliant and used his highly focussed energy field and knowledge of mindful healing to treat people, as well as a wealth of info meant to lift both body, spirit and mind.

Since i have been studying aromatherapy and the use of therupeutic grade essential oils with Gary Young, of Young Living Essential Oils, i have discovered that in certain parts of the world, particularly Ethopia and other parts of the near and far east, the hospitals have been treating cancer with injections of organic, therapeutic grade frankinsense. I don’t have the details of what kinds of cancers. Also dietary changes – vegetarian vegan & often gluten free, dairy free diets … etc. The results of the stopping of cancer cells from growing and the regevenational healings that have resulted are very remarkable.

As well, because of all this, & my personal experience with thyroid cancer in my 20s; i endured with a breast feeding baby – who had to be weaned early because i didn’t know better but to go for the radiation treatment the dr. recommended – i am now a complete advocate of alternative health modalities. IF a disease – any, including the big “C” is discovered early enough it can be completely eradicated through purification of the blood system. Lifestyle change is the key. It is disheartening to hear today that the tiny nodule of cancer that i harboured at one pt. would not constitute an operation these days, since i have struggled with metabolic issues since then, (obviously) & other forms of endocrine system dysfunction, etc. ALL FOR NAUGHT; because of a time lag of information. !!!! Going ‘under the knife’ for cancer is little more than a medical dr’s unfortunate delusion & i would not trust one of them who discouraged a young, otherwise healthy patient from searching out alternative therapies. Today as the result of alternative therapies, i am cancer free & take only the min. dosage of thyroxin if i totally need it only; i can regulate my own metabolism through exercise, diet, herbal tinctures, vitamin supplements, essential oils useage (myrtle, amg others), acupuncture and meditation. Letting go of fears and emotional baggage: anger & grief, is a large part of the journey.

Be not mistaken: chemotherapy will kill cells indiscriminately in your physical body. This medical method does not recognise that the body can heal itself; radiation kills clear and malignant cells. Using therapeutic grade essential oils allows the energy intelligence of that tincture (frankinsence) to enter into your body & kill malignant cells only so it does not weaken your existing immune system. This is factual information – i no longer support Cancer Associations and medically based research bodies with my time, energy or $$ because i think they are simply operational to protect m.d.s research jobs in pharmaceutical industries whose main mandate is to keep people medicated. Period. People struggling with cancer should get a 2nd, 3rd and 4th opinion with other practitioners in the field about how best to treat their illness. Alot depends on age, lifestyle, attitude & commitment to wellness. Choose wisely; it’s your life, and your family’s welfare that is at stake if you allow the medical establishment to ‘decide for you’ what to do …

  11. Caroline says:

You have done a great work by spreading your research. I look forward to the 2nd Annual Healing Cancer World Summit. Are you interested in ayurveda too? I study ayurveda and it would be interesting to listen to an ayurvedic doctor in the program too!

  12. star says:

I too do lots of research regarding cancer but no matter what if the person or persons dont want to go another route regarding treatment it doesnt do any good . Yes i have lost others too latest is my bro this past Aug.

  13. Denise B says:

My Mom died of pancreatic cancer three years ago this month. This was my first personal encounter with cancer. I had been following a healthier lifestyle for a few years before this but I have been even more determined to help others since then. I listened to last year’s summit and I will be listening in this year. Thanks Kevin for sharing what you know. I, in turn, will share with my circle of influence as well.

  14. Frances says:

From my observation cancer as are most illnesses is energetically engineered. Emotionally we develop a blockage due to lifes experiences and added to our environment and our eating habits we develop unhealthy energetics in our bodies which can then lead to cancer, heart attacks and many many other forms of dis-ease. We come into this life to experience a learning and contribute in a unique way to human society. Just eating healthily whilst helpful does not deter development of cancer. There is so much more than this. Read “Dying To Be mMe by Anita Moorjani” her experience and enlightenment is extraordinary and I have read many books on the subject but her ability to express what she learnt is the best I have read.

  15. Skip Stein says:

I totally understand the ‘fear of cancer’. It is spread far and wide by organizations and companies to PROFIT from it! They instill fear to people will rush into a ‘treatment’ program that may not be to their best advantage but sure as hell increases the profit of the pharmaceuticals, physicians, hospitals, chemical companies; all those ghouls in the ‘health care food chain’. They are NOT interested in curing anyone, just treating them to death while bleeding the patients and their family’s bank accounts dry!

It is a real travesty that has been perpetuated for way too long. I applaud you and so many others who are speaking OUT and LOUDLY that Cancer (heard disease, diabetes, etc.) are all CURABLE NOW! and have been curable since before their rampant spread; due to the utter failure of the ‘medical’ community.

The traditional medical community just ignores the FACTS. Just try to ask any doctor if a Plant Based Vegan Nutrition will help fight disease; any disease! They either think you are nuts or try to persuade you to get more ‘protein’ by eating ‘healthy meat’! BULLSHIT! They are killing their patients; by ignorance or on purpose; often hard to discern!

I have/had prostate cancer (high Gleason Score) for over 3 years and totally rejected Allopathic ‘treatments’ and opted for a radical Nutritional Vegan conversion! Never felt better in my entire LIFE and I’m 66 years healthy! I go to the ‘doctor’ to have him order my blood work as it is covered by our insurance (beginning to wonder why I pay those premiums!) and have at least been able to explain what plant based nutrition actually IS; he had no frigging clue!

Anyway, rant over. Keep up the good work. I’m looking forward to the series (again).

  16. Valerie Cox says:

Well my story is that I have been on probiotics ,exercised for 29 years now, meditate and have no history of cancer in my family.
February 19,2011 I was told my 23 year old son had been shot. ( he was ready to grad with his bachelors)
I did the best I could ,kept my head up went back to work, workout and healthy food regimen.
Sept 2011 I was diagnosed with Breast cancer stage 3
I continued to eat best I could…did not do alternative healing (family was scared and my two kids)but incorporated much of my healthy alternatives while going thru treatment
February 24,2012 Lost my second son 21 years old in a car wreck…..
Trying not to let sadness, grief take over my life…I meditate…eat right…probiotics…kefir….

What next….a price to pay for leading a healthy life..dont know my healthhy way may have saved me..although I do say I have recouped faster than the average person, due to my health….I am thankful…
So here I stand a broken mother, but not a broken soul, and not a broken family because I do have the best family ever…Better to have had them then not..I will continue to live strong and true….

    • kim says:

I am so sorry for your painful losses! I have a 20 year old son whom I nearly lost last year in a freak accident. My heart goes out to you.
I too had breast cancer, and I know how difficult that is. You are a very strong woman. I will hold you up in prayer!

    • Susan says:

Dear Valerie, just simply God Bless you. My sister died when she was 21 (25 years ago) and I always remember my Dad saying “Your children are not meant to die before you”. You are an inspiration with your health, happiness, attitude.

  17. Thank you for running the event. It is individuals like you and your guests brave enough to bring these to people in need. Cancer is a terrible disease and mainstream medication is not the only way to manage this disease. Funding needs to be given to these individuals who are saying what about this treatment process.

  18. Steve says:

Great stuff on here. Most especially great are some of the comments I’ve read below. I assume some of these things will get discussed further perhaps and maybe some of the things I’ve heard as well. For example some of the info i have attained are that apparently Soursop fruit is a cure that is about 10,000 times greater than chemo, certain peppers mixed with fresh grated ginger to a paste is something another doctor claims to have cured cancer with, cannaboids (cannabis oils) are talked about/researched and tested as a cure/treatment, Chaga mushrooms is another and also they say that there was another cure for cancer found at the University of Cambridge in Ontario Canada but as with most things they were told to shut up and stop that research. I’m inclines to agree with France, below, on energetics and that type of info also really needs to be researched and/or shared. If Mark, below, is really a director and an oncology expert at the institute then he also deserves a huge amount of applause and gratitude for stating those facts even IF they are only 80 or 90% true. I would not be surprised if he lost his job for making such statements because as alot of people are now waking up to, the powers that be would rather see 80% of in a hospitals, prisons (of the FEMA slave camp variety) or in cemeteries rather than healthy, awake and thinking freely outside of the box on the streets. Way to go Kev!! You have no doubt educated, helped and probably healed alot of live through all such and related means. YOU ROCK!!!!!

If I ate nasty cooked food I would be worried as well.

  20. Yvonne says:

Kevin, I’d like to recommend to you the book Dying to be Me by Anita Moorjani. The author was admitted to hospital in 2006 dying of cancer – in a coma and not expected to live through the night. She had a near death experience, and came out of the coma the next day, peaceful, ecstatic and – as extensive tests soon showed – cancer free. The book is very well worth reading and I think you would find it reassuring in many ways.

  21. I have hepatitis c and knew that liver cancer was always something I might face at some point later in my life. Well, the later in life hit and I was diagnosed with liver cancer early enough to receive a wedge resection with a cancer free diagnosis after my surgery. I still have hepatitis c and recurrence is now my immediate concern. I have lead a very healthy lifestyle, however, I still acquired the cancer. I don’t know what to do next, I always had an answer to my questions, today, I feel lost and don’t know what to do, I am looking for a totally new perspective. I don’t know if this is the most appropriate place to write this, if not please refer my email to someone who could be my mentor (phone or email), and if this was the right place to place my info, thank you for the opportunity.
