What Do You Want to Know About Us?

As you know, we’re just a week or so away from a brand new look at Renegade Health…

It’s been a long time in the making and there were a lot of stops and restarts along the way. In fact, about a month ago, it was ready to go, but I pulled the plug after reading the Steve Jobs biography.

The reason why is because the site wasn’t doing what I wanted it to do and the biography inspired me to not be afraid to scrap what I was doing and start over. It also taught me to simplify.

The new site as it was, still didn’t make it particularly easy for you to find what you’re looking for — which was our intended goal. Our existing site already is lacking in this category — which I’m sure you noticed.

So, we reworked it — painfully — until it was just right. I can’t say perfect, since nothing is, but I’m thrilled at how easy I can get around the test site right now. I can find anything with a click or two and if that doesn’t work the search is fantastic.

Anyway, the new site will be up in 3-10 days, depending on tech glitches that we find along the way.

Here are some of the features that I’m most excited about. Like I just said, there will be a great, easy to use search. There will be topic categories where you can easily find the articles, recipes and commentary that is relevant to you. And there will be the ability to comment directly to the comments that other people posted, so they’ll be in thread format instead of linear like they are now.

I’m really excited for this new chapter of the site. It’s taken a lot of thought and a lot of time to craft just right. It’s almost ready.

One thing that I’m still working on is our About page. Right now, it’s pretty bland and I wanted to spice it up a bit. I started writing a little bit about Annmarie and I yesterday, but stopped.

I had an idea.

I wanted to do it in a question and answer format, but didn’t have many great questions.

My idea was to turn it over to you and have you ask the questions and then I’d answer and put some of the most frequent (and fun) ones on the About us page.

This way I could answer questions about us that were relevant to what you want to know, not some lame questions that I think people want to hear about.

So, here’s what I’m asking — very simply…

“What do you want to know about us?”

Any question that you want to know about us personally or professionally is game. Just post them in the comments field of the blog and I’ll take maybe 2-3 dozen or so and answer them and put them into the About page on the new site.

The questions can be serious, fun, tricky, insightful, or whatever else you come up with.

Some examples are…

  • What is your health philosophy? (Already covered, so you don’t have to ask it!)
  • What is your favorite color and why?
  • What motivates you?
  • If you were stuck on a deserted island…

That kind of stuff.

What’s even cooler is that when the new site is launched you’ll be able to see if we answered your question and you can get an opportunity to learn a little more about us — in a much more intimate way than the usual B.S. you find on those about pages. LOL!

So that’s it, just post your question below and I’ll go through them over the next few days, answer them and add some to the About us page!

Your question of the day (redundant, I know): What do you want to know about us?

Live Awesome!

P.S. Here’s a fun question… What do raw fooders eat? You can find out the answer here.

Kevin Gianni

Kevin Gianni is a health author, activist and blogger. He started seriously researching personal and preventative natural health therapies in 2002 when he was struck with the reality that cancer ran deep in his family and if he didn’t change the way he was living — he might go down that same path. Since then, he’s written and edited 6 books on the subject of natural health, diet and fitness. During this time, he’s constantly been humbled by what experts claim they know and what actually is true. This has led him to experiment with many diets and protocols — including vegan, raw food, fasting, medical treatments and more — to find out what is myth and what really works in the real world.

Kevin has also traveled around the world searching for the best protocols, foods, medicines and clinics around and bringing them to the readers of his blog RenegadeHealth.com — which is one of the most widely read natural health blogs in the world with hundreds of thousands of visitors a month from over 150 countries around the world.

    Kevin and Annmarie,

Thank you for all of the vital health information you share and for all of the passion, integrity, and thoughtfulness you bring to Renegade Health!

    for each of you:

What 5 dietary and lifestyle choices have you made in your diet or health that have had the most lasting impact and that you would recommend the most for others?

Do you two ever eat less than optimally and if so, what do you do afterward?

As former East Coasters, like myself, what are some of your favorite things about living on the West Coast?

What are your favorite markets/produce stores to buy fresh produce where you live?

And, lastly, do you always buy organic,or do you sometimes opt for locally grown, and if you would share more about this topic.

Enjoy lovely Hudson and each other.

  11. Jo says:

Seeing how we women are always interested in
romance stories, how did you and AnnMarie meet
and what romantic thing has Kev done lately for the lady who gave him a son? LOL
Until then, we will all assume you guys met at some raw food bash.

It would be interesting to find out where you two met and your courtship story.

  16. Lisa says:

What’s your biggest dream for Hudson?

  17. Hilary says:

As an American and a new parent, Do you plan on paying into the health insurance industry for either yourselves or your child? The reason I ask is because no one seems to be really addressing the issue. For those of us who don’t or can’t use drugs, the current model is useless unless god forbid, you need medical intervention. I spend a fortune on my health but none of it is covered and to have an insurance policy on top of my expenses is financially unfeasible. Do you think the U.S paradigm will ever shift to include subsidized organic food and or holistic/preventative health care?

  18. Yvonne says:

Do you every go to the movie theater? If you do, how do you resist eating the popcorn?

  19. John says:

Q – Are you ex tobacco users?

Also, I’d love a video page showing the harvesting and packaging of your products like Muna, cinnamon, etc… I’d like to see how someone scrapes the bark off of a cinnamon tree!!

  20. Debra says:

In general, what quality do you like most in people?
In general, what quality do you dislike most about people?

  21. Gerry Karr says:

As self- proclaimed “natural health” advocates, how exactly do you define natural health. Does it exclude traditional medical care? And, do you have any dietary guidelines- now that you are not eating exclusively vegan?

  22. Barb C says:

How did you two meet and what were the drivers leading you to this field of occupation?

  23. Donna McCaskill says:

Hi Kevin and AnnMarie I would like to know if your cat Johnny 5 ???? (I can’t remember his name for sure)eats as healthy as you both do ? Also do you believe in vaccinating your pets? Thanks Donna

  24. Cindy says:

What makes a health commentator stand out from others? I personally feel it is the transparency or willingness to reveal (1) personal health challenges overcome, (2) mistakes or tweaks/changes/regrets in diet/health practices along the way, and (3)openness to diversity & valuing the differing opinions of experts. Questions and answers along this line would be great.

  25. Brianna says:

So, now that you eat healthy, is that it? Do you ever “slip”?

What do you do if you are really hungry, but there is nothing to eat but junk?

Do you have any healthy foods, that maybe don’t work so well for you? And if you love them, do you still eat them once in a while?

What is your ultimate vision for Renegade health and how do you keep from getting bored?

Can’t wait to see the new site 🙂

  26. Corrie says:

    1. If you knew that tomorrow you would enjoy your last meal, what would you request?

    2. What has been your most memorable travel experience and/or location? Why?

  27. Hilary says:

Do you juice fast/feast and, if so, how often?

  28. R F says:

The issues mentioned by Hilary about so-called health insurance is something I’ve been meaning to ask you to research & disscuss for a long time. There must be a better alternative to subsidizing big pharma/medical by betting against ourselves. I think it’s probably best to save our $ and/or invest in good food, a juice fasting retreat, exercise equipment, etc. Would like to hear your take on it and responses by readers. Also Medicare. Wonder if there’s a danger to signing up for that – will they require certain “preventative” measures like vaccinations or other drugs or even procedures? Are people required to take part in Medicare in order to collect the social security benefits they paid into all of their working lives?

To answer today’s question, if there isn’t already a gallery page or even if there is, please include photos and videos, the more the better, and if possible a link to high rez versions of the photos for the visually orientated amongst us. A picture is worth . . . The new site sounds nice.

  29. Deena says:

I would like to know what you love about living in Berkeley! Which are your favorite farmer’s markets/health food store/restaurants?
When I visit there I would like to try/know about your “healthier options” for these places! Thanks!

  30. joanna says:

how often do you eat meat and what kind of if any?
what was the way to treat candida and repair your adrenals?
what is your opinion on chinese medicine especially eating only cooked food ( thinking of veggies)?

    Thank you in advance,
    mom of 3 70 % raw kids,
    regards from Poland,

  31. Do you believe in God? If you do, do you adhere to a particular religion? And how does God play a role in your lives?

  32. Allegra says:

Do you study the works of Ray PEat at all? And if so what do you thin

  33. Allegra says:

k of him and his theories? If not why not?

  34. Sandy says:

Hi- Just curious if you plan on giving Hudson a brother or sister and if you guys are going to be home schooling. Love your site. I’ve been following it since you started! Oh and I’m also curious like several other about do you believe in God? Thanks a bunch.

  35. Velda says:

How do you guys show appreciation for each other, on a daily basis and at special times?

If you had to pick another profession, other than this great work you are doing now, what would it be?

Have the changes in your life surprised you since Hudson came along, or it is pretty much like you thought it would be?

How long did it take before it seemed like Hudson had “always been a part of your family”?

I think the two of you are amazing, smart and give of yourselves. It is very nice to be associated with you 🙂

  36. cid says:

How did you get Annmarie to travel for a year in a motor home, and the decision behind doing it.

How did you met and how long till you married.
How long have you had Jonny 5?
How many siblings do you each have?

Would it be possible to have a page on your new website that is for Hudson? Pictures as he grows and info about him. Insights being parents.

  37. Lynn says:

What did you do in your life leading up to starting Renegade Health? Did you have a 9-5 job, and if so, what did you do?

  38. Bobby says:

Hey I was just wondering how you avoid getting stereotyped as ‘the food people’. I find that, after learning about this stuff for a while, it can get very repetitive to talk about, esp. with the same people. Sometimes I just talk about food randomly as a way to fill up conversation, but at other times it can get annoying to talk about.

Basically what I’m asking is, in one way of looking at it, is what do you both do when other people start talking to you about food, but you don’t really feel like it? Since you both know a lot more about the topic than many people out there, how do you respond?

  39. Joanna says:

Hi guys, just wondered where your favourite place in the world is and what other countries you might like to explore. What is your favourite meal? How long does Anne Marie plan to breast feed for? Also…..what food do you eat the most? Thanks for your updates….more pics and clips please!!XXX

  40. Bobby says:

    Oh yeah,

and sometimes, you know, people like to talk to others about what the others are interested in. so if , like let’s say, my friend knows that I like nutrition, he or she might talk to me about food. Well, that can really backfire because it prevents me from learning anything new because I’ll just rehash the same or similar stuff. I know you two, well, I think that you two are professionally involved in nutrition, so it’s definitely a different scenario.

  41. Rossana says:

Did you guys have a wedding? if you did what did you learn about it?

  42. Penny says:

(I’d also like to know…) What do you believe are the key ingredients to canadida and adrenal recovery?

  43. erin b says:

(for you both)If you could sit and talk to anyone dead or alive(outside of a relative) who would it be and why?

  44. zyxomma says:

What are your goals and dreams for yourselves, your website, and your online store? What are your dreams, goals, and plans for Hudson? (e.g. schooling: home, private, public, or a mix of the above?)

Btw and OT, I am amazed at how many people want to probe into your belief (or not) in God (whatever that means!). Your spiritual life is your own concern, IMO, exactly as spelled out in the US Constitution. I can understand people asking if you meditate, or whether your physical disciplines are tied to a spiritual practice, but I think asking about a belief in god is NOSY.

    Health and peace.

  45. Shelley says:

How do you recommend someone gets from knowing about healthful eating and exercise to actually eating healthful and exercising?? Totally hypothetical of course, LOL.

  46. Brooke says:

How did you overcome adrenal exhaustion and did you do it on a raw vegan diet?

  47. Kuru says:

Wow, I could answer about 90% of these questions for you! I’ll check my accuracy as time goes on. 🙂 Looking forward to the new search feature.

  48. Annette says:

    What are your favorite hobbies?
Do you like dogs…or is it all about cats?

  49. Autumn says:

Sounds like this was already asked but I wanted to ask if you all plan to, or already have vaccinated your child?

  50. Donna says:

From following your website I know that I share many of your beliefs about healthy living. I am curious if you have the same concerns as I do about hospital emergency rooms. What would you do if either you, Annmarie or Hudson were injured in a non-major way such as a cut or broken bone? Would you go to the emergency room or do you have another strategy? Another question: When you decide to research a health topic, what is your research protocol? Where do you start and how do you decide that you have thoroughly researched a topic?

  51. Donna says:

And I would also love to know how you two met!

  52. Moira says:

Sometimes I get depressed reading labels and looking at certain things that are happening in the world. However, I have a spiritual hope for the future that comforts me. Aside from doing what you personally can to help others, knowing that things are in dire straits in many areas of life for the planet and for all life here on earth, do you get depressed about the world conditions, and if you do, what comforts you? are you as open minded to other things in life as you have been to experimenting with your health? what do you hope the future will hold for your beautiful family? what is your fear for your family? So you asked what our questions would be, these are mine!

  53. Teri says:

Yes! A page for Hudson…yeah!! I just wanna see more baby pics. They grown SO fast. I’m about to be a grama for the 3rd time and it’s getting exciting…next month!

Oh, and I love mom and dad too, keep up the great work.

  54. Lee says:

How do you get your spouce that drastically needs to be on a whole food diet for her and the kids. A constant battle, Sucks, wish she would get on the program. I cook every meal for myself!

  55. mark e says:

-How did you and Annmarie meet?

-How long have you been together?

-Where do you see yourselves in 5 years? 10?

-If you weren’t running Renegade Health what would you be doing?

-Why did you start Renegade Health?

-What would you recommend to someone just starting out who wants to do what you do?

-What areas of the health/fitness/nutrition/holistic field do you see un-met opportunities in?

  56. Ta Stey says:

    1) What are both of your educational backgrounds,
what schools did you attend, do you hold any degrees or diplomas etc. in buisness or in nutrition/medicine/alternative medicine etc, or is it all trial and error of life experiences?
    2) What are your main health news sources, and current events/world-ly news sources?

Love your site, and, Hudson is adorable;)

  57. Yvonne says:

    Great questions from everybody here!
Yes, I agree about the baby pics, more of them, thanks!! He should have a space on the new website, his own space. Looking forward to it! 🙂
Didn’t know you had a cat, cat should have a space too, as a family member!
Somebody here was upset about the God question. Why upset? We humans all wonder about this question, about the universe, are we alone, is there an architect, is the light at the end of the tunnel in near death experiences for real or is it a trick of the mind, is there really going to be an Ascension Dec 21, etc. I think it is natural to be curious. Nobody has the answer, we are all guessing!

  58. barry says:

anything on the ‘new spirituality’, i.e., non-dual, evolutionary, & integral; ken wilber the undisputed top dog

  59. Jason Moore says:

How could you support a community or large group to become healthier? What would you do with that group and where would you begin?

  60. Yvonne says:

I think somebody here asked about your future goals and ambitions. That is a very interesting question, I think.
I have many books and videos about food and health but the latest video shocked me the most (The Weight of the Nation). I didn’t know 18% of US children are overweight. The videos (3 cd’s) also talk about what different cities, hospitals and schools are doing to increase the amount of veggies served. I also learned that 50 million (?) ppl shop organic/are into CSA’s (not sure if I heard that on the dvd Genetic Roulette). This country is health wise in a bad shape and I wonder if your new website could perhaps somehow guide ppl to important information (books, dvd’s), organizations etc to lead to a healthier life style? Could you lead the way, be the link to change?

  61. Richard Mc Hale says:

The Miracle Mineral Solution by Jim V. Humble about putting certain minerals together to get cured, what do you have to say on this mineral solution. I am really interested. Do you know the real truth about it. Lots of Love Richar and Vitoria here in Fortaleza, Brasil.

  62. Ann Patterson says:

Dearest Kevin and Annemarie, Thank you for all that you have done to share information about health and nutrition. It took a while to scroll down to the end of the already posted comments, so good luck with your “About” page and with the new site. If you have a chance to get all the way down to my comment, I am interested to know more about your personal health journeys. In my own life and in the course of my rather extensive reading, it seems that the vast majority of people who have adopted an alternative lifestyle to SAD and allopathic medicine have done so due to a health struggle in their own life. Once that happens, it is like the curtains are pulled back and you can’t go back to following the misinformation published by MSM. I am interested to know what was the tipping point for the 2 of you. Again, thank you. I look forward to being a frequent visitor to your new site. Fondly, Ann

  63. Aubrey says:

What do you eat in a day?

  64. Luetta says:

If you could store bulk food for six months & that was all you would have as a resource. What foods would you store up? [Ex. almonds for milk, flour & butters] What non electric tools would you have for your kitchen? Thank you!!

  65. Susan Bessette says:

Hello, I have not connected with you for a while and just learned of your wonderful baby boy. Congratulations. Previously I had wondered if you would be so pre-occupied with your health careers that you would fore-go the pleasures (and challenges) of parenthood. Good for you. I am so happy you chose life. There is nothing better than children!
I know you will be great parents and will give Hudson a blessed childhood.
Best wishes of prosperity in your health careers. May you enjoy the best life has to offer you. Enjoy your family!!

  66. Mist says:

If you were Olympians, what would be your chosen sports?

If you were Michael Phelps in training/competition, what would be your example of a 10,000 calories/day meal plan?

  67. Maggie says:

What experiences did you have as a child/youth that set you on the path that you are on today?

What impact did your family of origin have on you that set you on the path that you are on today?

    What is your spiritual path?

What food stuffs would you have in a 3 mo/6mo/1 yr pantry to provide for your family in an emergency (no electricity)?

Loving the email updates and looking forward to seeing the debut of your new design!

  68. Mary Ann says:

What do you think about the philosophy of Dr. Robert Young who wrote the book The phMiracle and subsequent books based on the acidity and alkalinity of our bodies?

  69. Elo says:

I have enjoyed your open minded site for about 2 years now. I am sure you agree that we need to stop the GMO movement and stop poisoning the earth with pesticides. . Why don’t you see if you can interview some heavy hitters (like Oprah, Ellen, Stallone and Bruce Willis), that I hope have the good of the world at heart like we do.

  70. Sarah says:

How is your Candida? Do you still have flare -ups? How do you keep it at bay?

  71. sandra frankel says:

    OK, here’s my question….

With the GMO bill pending,(California’s Prop 37), the horrible abuse of power and the environment by big Agri-business, Global warming, etc. how do you deal with all the terrible truths and stay positive, and not go into fear?

I got an email today,” a GMO documentary, available to view free of charge- just today.” and I had to pass. I am just getting too freaked out about the issues. I want to be involved but not inundate my self.
Do you have any of those issues… how do you deal?

How do you hold a positive view of the future?

How do you find the balance in yourself…to believe and to be an
    empowered voice?

  72. LynnCS says:

I know you love to write, so my question is, can you please drop the word ‘why’ after “the reason…?” The reason is…is enough. I love to read your writings no matter what you do. Do it or not, I am still a fan. Just thought you’d like to know. Another is about the use of pronouns. There are tricks to check if you’re using them right. Lemme kno if u care. LOL. Love your site and looking forward to the new improved site. Much love, Lynn

  73. Andreea says:

When Hudson goes to school or kindergarten, will you give him his own casserole or will he eat along with the other children whatever they are fed by that institution? And when he goes to some kids’ birthday, assuming that the other kid is not vegan, will you let him eat what the other children are eating? If not, how will you motivate your choice to Hudson, assuming that he is too small to understand all the health concepts and he wants to be “normal”, like the rest of the kids, in order to fit in.

    Thank you!

  74. Simone says:

I’d like to see a food diary of what you eat for a week. Would be helpful for those who don’t quite know how / where to start 🙂

  75. Em says:

I second Carmen’s (#7) questions! Both very interesting…(re how you met and what your diets were like at the time)

(Having gone through all the comments, I can see that there are lots of people interested in how you guys met:))

& Lisa’s (#9) second question: if you could only choose one food to eat for the rest of your life, what would it be? (Mine would be yellow honey-dew melon…I think:))

Susan’s question on your personal vaccination views – also good.

  76. Colleen says:

    Hi Kev,

At what point in your lives did you make that decision that optimal health was all important, and what brought you to this decision?
    Love you both.

  77. Marg says:

What are your thoughts/beliefs about enemas and colonics? Are they safe? How often should someone do one? Can they be performed by the private individual or should they be done by a professional? Do you both cleanse your colons this way and how often.
    Thank you.

  78. De says:

What makes your skin care line superior to other organic lines?

  79. Cindy says:

I’m excited to see your new website.

What do you guys eat on a daily basis?

Do you ever slip up & eat junk?

Do you plan to vaccinate your son?

  80. Jan says:

Cindy just asked what I wanted to know…what does a normal day’s food look like for you? What foods do you make sure to have everyday?

  81. Charlotte says:

Yes, I would also like to know more about your lifestyle now.. What you guys eat day to day,
what is Annemarie eating, vaccinations for your child, do vaccinate your cat? what your cat eats, how long does Anne plan to breastfeed, when do you plan on introducing food to Hudson and what foods are appropriate for the first year. This is such an important time in your life and as someone who wants kids one day, I would appreciate you sharing what you’ve learned.
Maybe you could do a once weekly video?? talking about these things and answering people’s questions? The Q&A videos used to be my favorite..

  82. Maureen John says:

Is is possible to preserve our natural food from GMO when crosspollination (especially from bees and pollen) when there is not way to control the natural process? What can we do to stop Mosanto from destroying our food system and poisioning us?
