Yep, left you hanging here… ;-)

For good reason though! Many of you suffer from tense upper shoulder and lower back muscles. Many more have stiff necks.

I love the two of you!!! When you do episodes together I’m always smiling from ear to ear! You two are so cute together!

The tennis ball idea is fantastic. It’s easy to do in just a few minutes! I’ll have to keep the balls hidden from the dog, however. :-P

Annmarie, you are so absolutely gorgeous! Wearing white really shows off your eyes even more. :-)

It was raining here today, too, but it didn’t stop Jim and I from going to a park for some hiking. We wanted to harvest some paw paws and we were successful in finding a few of them! YUM!

Lots of love to both of you!

    Wendi
    XOXOXO

p.s. Happy Birthday to Annmarie’s sister, Donna!

the best rainy day workout (for me) is not an indoor activity at all… going running on a rainy day is the ultimate. no one in your way, you have the path all to yourself, cooling drops hitting you with every step, just you and yourself and the endorphins: very zen.

I get on my rebounder when it is raining or go to the GYM and do a lot of core/ balance exercises along with using the Turbosonic machine.. :)

Great show AnnMarie! You Rock. Will have to try the tennis ball techniques.

My favorite rainy day activities are to do Kathy Smith videos, jumping on a mini trampoline to to a Michel Jackson CD and happy scream….and, of course, listen to your show :)

Wendi Dee :-) - - how will you prepare the paw paws? I just love them - but I only know HIGHLY sugared ways to prepare them (mmmm - like in pudding :-) )….thanks, Dede

Definitely running in the rain. Mud football is also tons of fun. Sliding down steep, wet, grassy hills is another favorite.

I was just thinking of writing to you about my recent trigger point experience, and here you are talking about trigger points. Well, a few weeks ago I added a lot of stair stepping and other quad exercises to my routine. No too long after that I began to have pain in my right hip. The pain got bad enough that I had to stop my work out routine for one week. I tried massaging the hip area and whatever means I could to find relief. I have a book titled “The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook” by Clair Davies. I decided to delve into it and do more research. Mr. Davies said that trigger points in the thighs will refer pain to the hips. That made sense, because of the workout that I was doing, and I did find several VERY painful spots on the middle of my outer thigh. I started working those areas and the pain in my hip finally started to ease up.

Something else I found very interesting was the role that certain nutrients played. The book lists several that are “critical” for proper muscle function: vitamins B1, B6, B12, C, and folic acid, and the minerals calcium, iron, magnesium, and potassium. The book states, “Levels of the minerals calcium, iron, magnesium, and potassium must be adequate for normal muscle function. The exchange of calcium ions is directly involved in the contraction and relaxation of muscle fibers. Iron enables muscle tissue to use the nutrients and oxygen that are delivered to the blood. Potassium deficiency effects heart and other smooth muscle function. Magnesium is needed in conjunction with the body’s use of calcium. Low levels of magnesium are associated with muscle hyperexcitability and weakness.”

I wanted to find out what foods would be the best source for those nutrients, so I searched through another book that I own titled “The World’s Healthiest Foods” by George Mateljan. These are the foods at the top of Mr. Mateljan’s lists for each nutrient:

    B1 - romaine lettuce
    B6 - spinach, bell peppers
    B12 - calf’s liver, sardines
    C - bell peppers, parsley
folic acid (folate) - romaine lettuce, spinach
    calcium - spinach, collard greens
    iron - spinach, swiss chard
    magnesium - swiss chard, spinach
    potassium - swiss chard, spinach

I thought, “WOW”. They are almost exclusively from our wonderful GREEN FOODS.

I decided to purchase all of the greens listed, and chop them up into what I call my “Trigger Point Salad”.

    1 cup spinach leaves, chopped
    2 leaves romaine lettuce, chopped
    1 leaf collard greens, chopped
    1 leaf swiss chard, chopped
    1/4 cup parsley, finely chopped
    1/4 cup bell pepper, chopped
    juice of 1/2 small lemon
    1 tablespoon olive oil
    1 glove garlic, crushed

Mix all together in a large bowl. YUM.

Thank you for your show. I really enjoy watching you both.

    Margie

The tennis balls are a great idea! Wish I had known that a long time ago although better now than never! My rainy day exercise and snowy day exercise would be a video incorporating cardio and strength training. Any suggestions on good exercise videos? I’m getting burnt on the same one. How about a good Kick Boxing video and also Tai Chi? How about doing an episode on different types of videos for the different types of exercises people are interested in?

You guys are way too cute together! You always make me smile.
On rainy days, I like to practice my karate and use my Taebo videos. It’s also fun to play dance revolution with the kids for a little workout.

Yoga works every day and also Egoscue’s Pain Free exercises. In addition to the ones in book (Pain Free: A Revolutionary Method for Stopping Chronic Pain by Peter Egoscue) at Amazon, I love his Pain Free Workout Series DVD set…Volume I - Beginners. Haven’t gotten into the Advanced yet. I have also attended two of his clinics in Albuquerque for individual instruction. If you aren’t familiar with these, get them, learn and share. I am 78 years old and feeling great, even on rainy days!

Other rainy day activities are weight lifting and the rowing machine on my porch which gets used almost every day year round.

I am going to buy some tennis balls! Got rid of ones I had years ago. Will share this video with a local nurse who comes periodically to give me a massage at home. A blessing! She watched and tried the shoulder exercises video. I saved it and do it almost every day.

I count you two as some of my blessings. Keep up the good work! Education never stops.

Cool show, that trigger point stuff will be very useful.
Belated Happy Birthday to Donna :-)
Favourite rainy day workout is bouncing on mini trampoline.

I love yoga - indoors, outdoors, rainy day, sunny day, anytime. I also enjoy your daily blogs. Thank you both for doing these.

    HELLO KEVIN AND ANNMARIE,

I LEARNED A TRICK WITH THE TENNIS BALLS I’D LIKE TO SHARE. FIRST, TAKE A LONG SOCK AND TIE A KNOT IN THE MIDDLE AND PUT IN A TENNIS BALL IN THE SOCK ON EACH SIDE OF THE KNOT AND THEN PUT A KNOT ON THE OUTSIDE OF EACH TENNIS BALL. YOU CAN MAKE THE MIDDLE KNOT ABOUT THE SIZE OF YOUR SPINE AND YOU CAN USE THIS TO ROLL UP AND DOWN ALONG THE SPINE AGAINST THE WALL OR ON THE FLOOR. HOLDING THE ENDS OF THE SOCKS WILL GIVE YOU CONTROL IN PLACING THE TENNIS BALLS JUST WHERE YOU WANT THEM ON YOUR BACK OR SHOULDERS IF YOU ARE NOT GOING TO ROLL THEM. I USE IT THIS WAY WHILE I AM DRIVING. JUST PLACE THEM AND LEAVE THEM IN A POSITION UNTIL THE NEXT LIGHT THEN ADJUST FOR A NEW RELIEF POINT.

FOR THE QUESTION OF THE DAY -> I CHOSE TO MOVE TO A PLACE WHERE IT IS VERY RARE TO HAVE A RAINY DAY AND WHEN THERE IS ONE IT DOESN’T EVER LAST ALL DAY. :)
    JOY
    PS WHAT ARE PAW PAWS???

  15. sunnie on September 29, 2008 11:11 am

I run from the car to the building (just kidding)
The gym is great or if it is just a quick downpour (most typical here in South Florida) I wait 5 minutes and continue outdoor activity as scheduled :)

you two ARE awesome. I wish my boyfriend didn’t mind being in front of the camera as much as he did. I’d love to make raw food vids with him it it.
I love doing trigger point exercises and have found the miracle balls here to be the best and most effective for me: http://tinyurl.com/4poc53
On a rainy, day I love popping in my favorite rebounding DVD: cardiolates.
