(Huntington State Park, Newtown, CT)

It’s amazing how sensitive the body can get once you’ve eaten healthy for a while…

Yesterday, I decided to have some chocolate while I was watching the Steelers game (U.S. football). I usually don’t eat chocolate at all based on my past history with it — adrenal stress and eventual low hormone production — but yesterday, I wanted to see how I felt afterwords.

I only intended to have a small one centimeter square, but it turned into about 1/3 of a regular sized chocolate bar. This happened to be a raw chocolate bar that wasn’t too tasty, so I’ll spare the name of it here.

Within minutes after eating it, I started to feel pretty ramped up. For me, the caffeine totally whacks me out and I start to get antsy and unable to sit still. What’s worse is that this feeling lasted for almost 12 hours — of course, more intense at the beginning — but at 12:45 am, I was still unable to go to sleep. It was quite an experience and something that I don’t want to repeat anytime in the near future.

Anyway, today, I have a recap of Night 2 from the Healing Cancer World Summit with Dr. Francisco Contreras and Dr. Leigh Erin Connealy.

In this recap, I’ll share some of the things about diet for cancer patients (and prevention) that were similar and conflicting from the previous calls and hopefully sort some of this out for you.

As you know, I’m into longevity studies…

I think following the results of this research as well as looking to our ancestry for long lived cultures and what they do is a key to living a fantastically healthy and long life.

But if this is true, what about behavior that is aberrant or just plain doesn’t fit into the perceived model of perfect health – like smoking, drinking and still living to be 100 or older?

Today, ZenMommy’s question brings up this important point…

“There are many instances where people have bad habits and live long. Like a grandfather who smoked and lived to be 100 years old or more. How is this part of longevity? Can you explain what is happening?”

I’ve been reluctant to get involved with the buzz about the raid at the Rawsome Co-op in Los Angeles.

There are a few reasons which I’ll discuss in this week’s recap.

I’ll also talk about the interview I had this week with Yuri Elkaim – why I think it’s worth listening to – and I’ll also talk about stomach cancer and the vegetarian diet and why I wrote that article.

Take a look…

[NOTE: I suggest before you pass judgement on this video, please read what I have to say about the Raid at the link below. I've made some written clarifications on the video because I've proved again in 2 weeks that I can write much more clearly about sensitive issues than comment on camera! If you'd like to READ my thoughts, you can visit this page... http://renegadehealth.com/blog/2011/08/07/food-rights-and-food-fights/]

Your question of the day: What are your thoughts about the raid? Do you know about it?

I read about 90% of the blog comments posted here at Renegade Health (I manually approve about 60-70%)…

This means, yes, I do care about what you’re posting and enjoy getting different options and ideas. Many times I’ll even follow an intriguing link you’ve shared and learn something.

The only time I don’t get to read them is when we’re traveling or I just can’t physically be in front of a computer anymore. This is why I don’t spend much time responding to individual blog posts and why I respond to questions in article form like I am here.

In this article, I investigate a claim that came from the blog about increased risk of stomach cancer in vegetarians, talk a little about why runners don’t always age well and talk about opting out of back-scatter scanning at the airport.

Here we go…

Banana Dream with Orange Cashew Cream – A Raw Recipe from Lisa Mann

This is an adaptation of the classic Mexican dessert, fried bananas. I could eat these for breakfast. And why not? They are so good for you!

I adore this recipe because it uses simple ingredients that are easily found, and it tastes amazing.

Prep time: Five minutes, requires a food processor
