And we did.

Some foods we thought were raw, but they really weren’t.

Other foods, we realized may not be best eaten raw.

Some foods we ate too much of.

And finally, some food we ate just didn’t sit right after a while.

Today, I wanted to give you a list of “raw” foods (some really raw, others questionably not) that we just don’t tend to bother with anymore.

This doesn’t mean that we avoid them to the point of abstinence, but we do make sure we don’t bring any of them into the house because they’re either outright unhealthy, or we don’t react well when we eat them.

Man, do I wish I could have the best of both worlds… does it exist? Snow and 70 degree weather?

Anyway, in this newsletter, I’m going to concentrate specifically on something that many people are dealing with and what you can do to help yourself or anyone else who’s dealing with this issue…

Here’s the question we received…

I have a question/concern about Celiac’s Disease. My sister in law was diagnosed with this condition last week and I am trying to see if Celiac’s can be healed (or reversed) so to speak. Is it possible that the sensitivity to gluten can become less and less via healing through proper foods/herbs/superfoods?

Alright, let’s get moving…

Annmarie and I both were raised in Italian families…

Hers is a bit more than mine, but we still ate a ton of pasta and a good deal of meatballs when we were growing up.

When we visit her family over weekends or on holidays, there are always–of course–pasta and meatballs… and they smell amazing!

So one car ride back from New Jersey we decided that we’d find a meatless and raw alternative so we could feel like we fit in a little more!

Annmarie did put together a meatfree, raw meatball recipe (with a little help from GoneRaw) and it’s awesome! So here’s how to make ‘em…

Your question of the day: Did you really think that I let Annmarie clean up the water heater mess while I sat around and did something else?!?!

Click here, scroll down to the bottom of the page and add your comment!

Meatless Raw Meatballs Recipe

- 1 cup of soaked walnuts
- 1.5 cups coarsely chopped cremini mushrooms or portabellas marinated at least 1 hour with a little nama shoyu, olive oil and 2 cloves of garlic
- 2 more cloves garlic
- thyme, oregano, parsley to taste
- sea salt and crushed red pepper to taste
- Olive Oil – only for consistency

In a food processor, blend together all. Then with your hands roll out 1 inch balls place on dehydrator tray and dehydrate for 4-6 hours at 115.

Mangia!

Raw vegetable wraps are one of my all-time favorite raw food meals…

In this show, Annmarie makes an awesome raw food recipe that can be modified to your taste and prep style.

Collards are high in phytonutrients as well as vitamin K, vitamin A and vitamin C. Tahini is sesame paste that is high in iron and calcium.

Take a look and be sure to answer this episode’s question of the day, because we’ll be preparing the winner next week!

Your question of the day: What is your favorite dessert?

We’re going to prep it raw next week, so the best one makes next week’s show!

Click here and scroll down to the bottom to add your favorite dessert to the comments…

BTW: Here’s the Recipe…

Raw Tahini Sauce

4 Tbsp Water
3 Tbsp Nama Shoyu
3-4 Tsp Raw Tahini (More if you want it thicker!)
2 Tsp Raw Olive Oil (Or Sesame Oil)
1 Tbsp Agave
2 Tbsp Ginger
1 Clove Garlic
1 Tbsp Lemon Juice
1 Pinch Cumin
1 Pinch Sea Salt

Instructions: Blend!

Raw Collard Vegetable Wraps

6 Collard Leaves
1 Small Carrot
1 Small Zucchini
1/2 Small Red Onion
1/2 Small Red Cabbage
1 Handful Chopped Cilantro
1 Handful Chopped Basil

Other suggestions: Red Pepper, Spinach, Mango, Cucumber.

Instructions: Cut the stem out of the collards and blanch for 5 seconds in almost boiling water than run under cold water to cool down (this is debatable whether it’s raw or not, so you don’t have to do this if you don’t want!). Julienne the veggies and wrap them in the collards, adding some sauce for flavor and to seal the wrap. Makes 12 wraps!

Live Awesome!
