Second–juxtaposed quite nicely–I’m a little steamed…

I just got an email back from a health expert and I caught a sense he was giving me the “it’s not OK to make money in the health industry” vibe.

First let me say this… it’s entirely OK for people to think this… I–personally–just don’t understand it. :-)

I hesitated to put this episode up, but I sat with it for a while and all signs pointed to “go”. So it’s here and I’m glad it is.

I think what I address here is a big elephant in the room that none of my colleagues are addressing. (Maybe because they’re smarter than me ;-) ) But I truly feel it needs to be discussed more than a few times, massaged and brought into the open.

So here goes… love me or hate me! ;-)

Just some additional commentary…

Why in all other sorts of capitalism is it OK to sell things (e.g. the grocery store, the tire shop, a restaurant) but the minute we start talking about health we open a slimy can of worms.

And maybe it’s only online. Or maybe it’s only people who are in the public eye who get chastised. I’m not sure.

We run a low profile, successful personal training business offline. No one has ever questioned our fees. It’s a service business. We provide great service to our clients in return for payment. We provide them with health information.

Though when we started going online selling and promoting the same great information (and now for free with this show), we started to see more of an expectation of “health martyrdom” that I think needs to be discussed.

Here’s the inevitable Catch 22… if the trusted health experts don’t get paid, they don’t provide us more information. Not a great outcome. Who do you want to get paid? The people you trust or the people who market cheap, useless products?
