The Argentines have got a winner with chimichurri sauce…

It’s traditionally put on beef (any cut or part imaginable) but we got a little creative and came up with a few alternative options.

If you like food… which I’m sure you do… you’ll love this raw version to this one

(I think the sauce is raw anyway as long as you don’t buy it in a bottle from the supermarket!)

Here’s the recipe with ingredients…

Raw Chimichurri Sauce

1/2 Cup Olive Oil

1/3 Cup Water

1/3 Cup Lemon Juice

1-2 Cloves Garlic

3-4 Tbsp Parsley

1 Tbsp Basil

1 Tomato

1 Scallion

1 Tsp Salt

1/2 Tsp Cayanne

1/2 Tsp Ground Cumin

1/2 Tsp Ground Paprika

Prep…
Put everything in a blender. Blend lightly until it turns into a smooth paste. Cover and wait 2 hours at room temperature (we put it in the fridge!) before serving.

Your question of the day: What should we serve this raw chimichurri sauce on?

We thought marinated (or grilled) portobella mushrooms would be great and of course it was awesome on the cucumber. What do you think?

We were told that we wouldn’t be able to find organic food in Argentina by many people–even by people who live here.
In fact there’s a strike right now between the government and the farmers that is making it even more difficult.

We were told that we wouldn’t be able to find organic food in Argentina by many people–even by people who live here.

In fact there’s a strike right now between the government and the farmers that is making it even more difficult.

I wouldn’t take no for an answer.

So here’s a show about how we found what we were looking for… if you can find it here, you can find it anywhere!

So by the way, here are some listings of organic food places in Argentina for future Buenos Aires travelers, so you don’t have to go through what I have…

Bio Restaurant – Organic, Vegan, (Kind of Raw) Friendly Restaurant in Buenos Aires – http://www.guiaoleo.com.ar/detail.php?ID=539

El Rincon Organico -Organic Food Co-op in Buenos Aires. Order for pick up on Tuesdays. http://www.elrinconorganico.com.ar/

Pura Vida Juice Bar – Juice bar in Buenos Aires. Located in Palermo. Small, but hip to superfoods like spirulina and maca. Plus you can get a wheatgrass shot here too! http://www.puravidabuenosaires.com/

La Esquina de las Flores – Organic food shop and cafe. Great food, vegan and kind of raw friendly. http://www.esquinadelasflores.com.ar/ingles.htm

Your question of the day: What is the name, city and website (if they have one) of your favorite organic cafe, store or restaurant?

Go ahead, click here, scroll down to the bottom of the page and list them below so other readers can use this as a reference AND if I’m in your town, I’ll send you an email and we’ll meet up at the place!

Internet is working, I bought a Flip Video (that downloads direct to the computer), and we’re having fun while we’re exploring the city of Buenos Aires.

Even better yet, I’ll be giving you some Argentine themed shows this week to give you a flavor of South America.

Today’s show is on a traditional drink of the Argentines as well as the middle of South America–it’s called Yerba Mate–and has actually gotten quite popular in the US and other places around the world recently.

When I first was introduced to Yerba Mate 10 years ago, you couldn’t find it anywhere, but now you can find it in most health food stores…

Enjoy!

Your question of the day: What is your favorite tea?

Right now I’m looking off of our 4 story balcony into the western skyline of Palermo and Palermo Hollywood in Buenos Aires.

There are no clouds in the sky and it’s about 70-75 degrees.

We got here in BA on Friday afternoon after about 18 hours of traveling, which is about 15 more than I usually enjoy.

We were well prepared for the plane flight. We brought plenty of dried fruits, water, green powders (they always nag me in the security lines!) and we ate light. It was nice not to eat tons of raw nuts with the fruit… that generally leaves me bloated.

In the city (BA), the story is a little different. Plenty of Parillas (Argentine BBQ) and Italian restaurants (they’ve taken over the world!) but very little of everything else.

I used my internet savvy and broken Spanish to decipher that there is some sort of co-op which is a block from us! BUT, we walked by it yesterday and it was closed. Hopefully, Lunes (Monday) will bring happier, healthier news.

So we’ve moved into “survival” mode, which is what I call it, when we loosen up the law and relax a little.

“Survival” mode carries this mantra… not perfect, just good enough. So with this as our rule, we eat some things we’d never eat at home and just enjoy the time with friends (we’re down here with our friends Jonathan and Carrie) and not stress about what to eat.

Let’s face it, this really is just a blip compared to the scale of our lifetimes. I’d rather not stress. Our bodies are resilient. I used to eat Twinkees and drink a Mountain Dew before tennis matches in high school and we still made it to States.

The meaningful lesson of all this that I’ve learned is that you don’t get the time back that you spend stressed out.

You can readjust and get back on track with your diet… but you never get back the time that you spend worrying about what you should or shouldn’t to eat.

We luckily did find a organic, vegan restaurant that has fresh juices and a thai restaurant that we’ve tried to get into two nights in a row, but they’re been too packed to let us sit. (That’s good news)

I’m anxiously awaiting news on the co-op so I can get back on track!

Tomorrow’s show is on a traditional Argentine drink… so stay tuned… it’s a great replacement for morning coffee and tea…

Live Awesome!
Kev
