Since we’re traveling today, you guys get a treat…
More from the Raw Food Living Light Expo.
Here’s why I think this is one of the best raw food events out there:
Organization: Dan Ladermann and Cherie Soria have this Expo thing nailed. Everything went off as planned and on time. About 2 days into it, I asked Dan if there were any glitches… and he told me that the only thing that he’s had to deal with were happy people and a 5-10 minute delay at one event because there was an audio issue. They run a tight ship and it shows. I couldn’t even begin to organize something this well oiled. I’d ask them to plan an event when we do one!
Quality of Speakers: The speakers are all high class and well known in the field, which makes the experience more than 10X worth the money. (The event for 3 days was just under $200 for 2008.)
Accessibility: Because of the structure of the event and the open cafe area, the speakers are easy to speak to and meet. This is a great way to talk to some of your favorite authors and get to know them. Everyone seems willing to talk. I also met a bunch of great RHTV fans! (Thanks Yo, Joy, Marina, Mary, Petra, Dorothy, Shea, Stephen, Marie, Terri, Barbara, Bob, Diane, Scott, Stacy, Grant, Alan, Ron, Annie, Dana, Matty, Sarah and everyone else… I tried to remember all the names, but it’s 11:54 PST right now and I’m a little foggy!)
Location: Ft. Bragg a great setting for this event. It’s small, quaint and there’s access to awesome beach cliffs and state parks for hiking and running. When you go, be sure to book a few extra days to explore the area!
Great Food: The Living Light Cafe has food available (for purchase) that is vegan and raw. It’s also awesome. You can get desserts, snacks, smoothies, juices and anything else as well. We had most of our meals here to not only get the great food, but hang out in the “courtyard” and talk to everyone! There’s also an amazing restaurant just 10-15 minutes south called “The Ravens”. It has vegan and raw options… it’s super expensive, but 100% worth the money!
Great Crowd: The people who attended were down to earth and just a blast to be around. It’s really a friendly and exciting environment. Everyone was smiling… and if they weren’t chances are they were locals, not event attendees!
So… what does all this mean? Consider experiencing it for yourself… we are going again next year!
I told Dan I wanted to buy my tickets for 2009 before I left!
Oh yeah… the show… Enjoy!
Your question of the day: What do you like better: blackberries or raspberries?

Wow - - I loved that clip from the Expo - - grow your own food!! - - absolutely :-).
Blackberries, Blackberries, Blackberries :-)…..well - that’s my vote anyhow.
Beautiful sunset at the end with the crickets chirping in the background

Red raspberries were a favorite for years, particularly made into a coulis to adorn cheesecake!
But now that I’m into raw food and green smoothies daily, blackberries are my favorite of the two choices. They add a depth of flavor, sweetness and off-set the green color!

RASPBERRIES..seeds are less of a problem……..:)

Blackberries.

Raspberries
Growing your own food is great…but it doesn’t really work so well if you live in a tiny space with no garden because that’s all you can afford. A $200 investment is pretty big, actually. I don’t think, no matter what is done, that eating a raw food diet will ever be easy for people whose budgets previously were used to including enough only for rice, beans, and peanut butter sandwiches (I never got sick eating this way, either). Is raw food veganism elitist? Maybe not. But it will inevitably be a struggle for someone on a genuine tight budget, not just some middle-class person who wants to save a bit of money–that to me is not a tight budget.
I think it’s silly to avoid doctors altogether….especially for broken bones. I have a cousin who has a permanently deformed ankle due to his refusal to see a doctor upon breaking it.

How can you ask such a difficult question? (for me anyway!) I love these fruits both and really cannot choose. I have wild blackberries that grow in the acreage next to my home so we have them every spring. I eat them raw and also mash them and put this over whole wheat toast with a little honey. Heavenly. Love all your information and shows. Keep it up!
8:51 pm on August 26th, 2008
Raspberries by far, one of my favorite fruits since I can remember.
8:55 pm on August 26th, 2008
Blackberries!
Thanks for all the clips from the Living Expo. Would love to attend next year.

One more thing I wanted to add regarding what was talked about at the Raw Food conference. Fate plays a part in our life existence, also. Example, my father who didn’t have children until his mid 50’s and smoked cigarettes for 65 years, (chain smoker), made it to 90! My sister on the other hand left us at 23 from lymphoma. She was very young and led a very healthy life compared to my father. I totally believe in living a healthy lifestyle, but in many instances, we just cannot control fate no matter how good or bad we live.

Raspberries.
And for very special occasions, desserts that combine raspberries and chocolate…the best!
Thanks for sharing your weekend. The seminar sounds very enlightening and inspiring…the setting and the scenery…absolutely awesome!

I like blackberries better ‘cuz they are better for your body and hold up
better as well.
Just a thought - Growing up in South Texas we use to pick Dewberries wild and that was my favorite berry until I guess they became extinct since they were always picked wild. I suppose all the modern day pesticides won out - so sad!! But they are yummy and kind of like a Blackberry but sweeter.
10:12 pm on August 26th, 2008
raspberries by far
10:33 pm on August 26th, 2008
Blackberries. I like both but blackberries are the best!! I would put raspberries over strawberries or blueberries though.
Glad you had such a great trip, good video!

I love Blackberries. I love to pick them and marvel at all the insects and birds that love them also. LOL
Great film from the Raw food Vibrant Living Expo 2008. Thank you millions.

I live in Western Washington where the berries are abudant and frequently wild. I have raspberries growing in my backyard and blackberries along the roads. I like best whichever one is within picking distance at the time.
11:52 pm on August 26th, 2008
Great to have met you and Annmarie this past weekend.. Thanks for remembering me..
I really like both of the berries…
I hope your arrived home safe and sound..
Yes.. that road really did a number on my stomach as well coming back from Fort Bragg.

Thank you so much for sharing your wondrous experience at the Living Light Expo. I so wanted to go but could not make it, so this snapshot is much appreciated.
Blackberries or Raspberries - what a choice! I will have to say raspberries, especially when mixed with a little raw cacao powder…mmmm, divine
4:54 am on August 27th, 2008
Got to be Blackberries.Polyphenol antioxidants. High in Vitamin C, K and Manganese

Does anyone know: is there a book on cheap raw living? It sounded like one was mentioned there.
On cheap blenders. I’m sure the reason that my basic blender has lasted is that I’ve looked after the motor. Using more in short bursts / lower speed settings and not putting in so much at once.
Raspberries - as they grow near me and taste just great!
6:46 am on August 27th, 2008
Raspberries - sweeter and easier to chew
7:52 am on August 27th, 2008
Definitely Raspberries

raspberries!

I would have to say red raspberries if I have that choice. I grow thornless blackberries, they are great to pick from. They are delicious. But, my favorite is still red raspberries. Yum.

Thank you for sharing your experience at the Living Light Expo. I only hope that I can attend next year! (With teenagers in school it will be difficult but I will try).
I love raspberries! (Blackberries are great too though!) On our recent family vacation to Montana we tried huckleberries-yum!
12:05 pm on August 27th, 2008
I like picking blackberries, because of childhood memories of picking them along our country road. But I’ve always preferred raspberries, although blackberries are super close! Wish I could’ve been there, hopefully next year!
12:56 pm on August 27th, 2008
Thank you Kev and Ann for bringing a bit of the Living Light Expo to those of us who could not attend. It looked amazing! I’m so grateful to you for the clips!
Can i pick Cherries? They’re my favorite!
Ok ok, if I had to pick between the two, it would be raspberries. I’m with Ann, frozen or fresh raspberries, cacao powder & nut milk smoothie, yum!!
I think you should make a dish with the berry that does NOT win and encourge variety.
1:06 pm on August 27th, 2008
Blackberries, hands down!
Anne Marie, don’t go to Vermont if those curvy roads get to you.
I wanted to go this year but couldn’t make it to the expo, hopefully next year.
Thanks for the snapshots.
1:25 pm on August 27th, 2008
We grow both blackberries and raspberries in our yard and blackberries were always my favorite growing up…until last year when all of a sudden I really prefer raspberries!
I never thought of blackberries growing by the beach as strange. That is exactly what they do here in Vancouver, as well as growing everywhere else they can =)
Thanks for the video clips!
2:26 pm on August 27th, 2008
raspberries….no.blackberries…no…raspberries
yea…raspberries…no blackberries..oh well…
you tell me!! I know I loved the clip though.
2:58 pm on August 27th, 2008
What a tough choice. Blackberries is my answer, because they grow all around where I live and right now there are loads of them hanging off the bushes just waiting to be picked. I used to go blackberry picking with my family when I was little so I have fond memories of brambles and purple stains!
Beautiful sunset at the end of the episode. Great way to close.

So the comment section was closed for the other day when you asked what the Question of the Day should be? I have a few QODs you could ask: Favorite toothpaste, favorite shampoo, favorite Olympic sport to watch, favorite raw cracker recipe. Oh, and I choose raspberries, although I would rather have blueberries, but all berries are amazing so I am not too picky.
7:36 pm on August 27th, 2008
raspberries by far Kevin!

Are mulberries a different kimd of berry? My dad called the huge bush/tree??? in our backyard a mulberry bush.
The blacker the berry the sweeter the juice. I vote for a recipe for both berries….the more recipes the better!!!! Thanks for taking us along it was great.

Blackberries!

Kevin and Ann Marie,
Thank you both so much for bringing us the information from the Expo. It is always a pleasure to see your enthusiasm and passion toward the raw food movement. Raspberries gets my vote (except when they have mold on them)!! It happens.
5:50 pm on August 28th, 2008
I love both. As each one is ripe at a different time during the year there is no competition!! Raspberries finished in July, Blackberries are just coming their best…
So both!!
love the show

Your daily show is great! I’ve learned much from watching (most of) them. (catching up today - Labor Day in USA)
I vote for rasbperry over blackberry, but blueberries are my fave.
Keep up the good work.

I have loved raspberries since I was a kid and still do they are my number one, but close behind is boysenberries which I do not find in australia unless in a tin.
