You can instantly test your pH in urine and your nitric oxide level in saliva, or markers like white cells in urine just from a slip of paper. Why can’t you test your blood type with a strip?

Get ready. A paper strip rapid test to determine blood type in 30 seconds will appear on the market within a few years. A team of Chinese scientists, led by Hong Zhang of the Center for Nanomedicine in Chongqing, developed a quick and easy, low-cost test that’s 99.9 percent accurate.

Relatively fast turnaround tests are already used by the military and in trauma centers. And, the Eldoncard is FDA approved for home use. It uses four drops of blood for ABO and Rh typing. Dr. Peter D’Adamo, the author of the popular Eat Right 4 Your Type diet book, also uses the Eldoncard for blood typing.

However, besides the four drops of blood, the process requires a step-by-step set of instructions that takes about 20 minutes to complete. The new test uses one drop and takes seconds to determine if you have A or B blood types.

Your blood type or group is a classification system based on inherited antibodies present in your type of blood. Most of us are familiar with the most common four ABO blood types. But, there are thirty-five known blood groups with over 600 different antibodies. If you need a transfusion, getting the wrong blood type could kill you.

The Four ABO Blood Groups:

  • Group A
  • Group B
  • Group AB
  • Group O

Until the new quick test comes out, there are two ways to know your blood type. Get a blood test at our doctor’s office. You can also order your test online and go directly to the laboratory. Or, use the Eldoncard test in the meantime. You can order an Eldoncard test kit from a variety of online sources including Amazon.com, or at your local pharmacy.
