The sun is setting on this old design pretty soon, but with a new one, we’ll have so many more cool things!

I’ve been waiting for quite some time to share this with you, since I know you’ve been waiting patiently…

As you may or may not know, Renegade Health is always evolving and changing.

We started as a once-a-week blog.

Then, we started doing daily videos. (For over 3 years!)

Then, I started doing videos and articles. (For only 6 months… it was too much.)

Then, I was just doing articles (Plus, I invited Dr. Williams to contribute as well.)

Now…

We have a whole bunch of other things that we’re going to sprinkle in over the next few months based on your feedback.

Today, I wanted to share what they are so I can get your feedback so that we — together — can make Renegade Health the best it can be.

So here’s what we have in store for you starting as early as next week!

1. Expert articles contributed by some of the top experts in nutrition and health.

I’ve always wanted to have more opinions on the site than just mine. The reason why is because it gives you the opportunity to learn all different sides of the story. This is how I’ve learned and I feel like it has worked out pretty well.

We’ve selected certain health authors and personalities to contribute to the blog and are thrilled that they said yes!

Dr. Leigh Erin Connealy, Dr. David Brownstein, Brendan Brazier and 7 more have agreed to contribute great articles for you. I can’t tell you how excited I am, because I believe this will add depth to the blog that hasn’t been there before.

Don’t be concerned, I still will be publishing articles and Q & A — which I feel is my strength — but I feel these experts will be able to fill in the spots where my writing is weaker…

Particularly on the clinical and scientific side.

2. They’re back! Recipes!

We took a long hiatus from recipes.

I apologize for this. I know a while back we posted a survey and about 50% of you wanted more recipes!

We blew it when we stopped posting recipes. The reason why is because Lisa got busy with the Cancer Summit and Annmarie got busy with her skin care business. (Remember, we are a small business!)

Anyway, I’ve been itching to get them back up and now we have system in place to make this happen.

The recipes will not be exclusively raw anymore. There will be some, but they will all be plant-based, healthy recipes to give you more options for you and your family.

Please expect a new recipe once a week.

Also, if you are a chef or you make amazing healthy food, please contact us for an opportunity to share your healthy recipes. Click here.

3. Regular interviews — once a week.

Holy cow! You guys gave us over 800 names (yes, some are duplicates) to interview. Lisa has put together a master spreadsheet and I’m going to run over it today to give her the go-ahead on the ones to start with.

I can’t tell you how thankful I am for you to help us with this process. This, of course, is why we gave you that great sale for your assistance.

Love you guys!

4. A brand spanking new design!

What does “spanking” have to do with “new?”

Can anyone explain that figure of speech to me?

As you can tell, our site is a little outdated — it’s so 2008, LOL. The main header is still focusing on the Renegade Health Show and we don’t even do it regularly any more.

So our new design will reflect a more modern layout that will allow you to find the content you want easier.

Some of the upgrades will be:

a. Better search which will now be powered by Google, not WordPress. This will allow you to search much easier and quicker to find specific issues you’re interested in.

b. Better comment threads. This means you can respond directly to a commenter underneath their original comment. This way we can have tighter conversations and really discuss, not just have the system pop up messages in chronological order.

c. Widgets that show the most popular posts and most commented posts for the week. I always want to know what is trending and people are talking about, so with this functionality, you’ll be able to discuss and read what is most relevant right away.

d. Better navigation, overall. The top navigation will change to focus on Articles, Store, Fitness, Recipes, Video and a few other simple categories. No more crazy, hard to use dropdown menus or anything like that. Just simple buttons so you can get to where you want to go muy pronto.

There literally are dozens more, but these are some of the ones I’m most excited about!

If YOU have any suggestions, please be sure to add them below and if we haven’t thought of them already and we can do them I will pass them along to our development team!

5. Re-release of the Inner Circle!

I’m pretty sure that most of you don’t even know about the Renegade Health Inner Circle…

Over the past 3 years, we have a weekly health coaching group that gets together over the phone and Annmarie and I answer all types of questions. We have a blast during these calls and the reason I’ve hesitated promoting this regularly is because I was never satisfied with the system we were using for a large volume of members. For the smaller numbers we have not it’s not a problem, but if we were to get more, I was always afraid that they system couldn’t handle it — nor could we handle the customer service.

In the next few months, expect a rollout of this new program where you’ll be able to hang out with us once a week and we’ll be able to answer all your questions — or at least the ones we know answers to!

6. Educational webinars…

One of the things that I haven’t done lately is teach!

I love teaching and sharing some of the awesome things I’ve learned over the years, but I’ve been so busy writing and running our businesses that I haven’t had a chance to really get into speaking again.

This time, I’m not going to hop into the RV again and travel all around the country. That was fun while it lasted!

Now, I’m going to do it via the web, where we can get 100’s or 1000’s of people together to learn about new products, concepts, tests and ideas.

It’s going to be awesome and I’m hoping (praying) that I’ll be able to start presenting these next week!

I’ll keep you posted on this as we get closer to the date I was hoping to launch the first one.

7. Anything else?

Please let me know if there is anything else you’d like to see on the site…

Inforgraphics?
Different categories?
Ideas how to organize the information better?
Flying Unicorns?

Your Question of the Day: What other ideas do you have for the site?

Live Awesome!
Kev

He started seriously researching personal and preventative natural health therapies in 2002 when he was struck with the reality that cancer ran deep in his family and if he didn’t change the way he was living — he might go down that same path. Since then, he’s written and edited 6 books on the subject of natural health, diet and fitness. During this time, he’s constantly been humbled by what experts claim they know and what actually is true. This has led him to experiment with many diets and protocols — including vegan, raw food, fasting, medical treatments and more — to find out what is myth and what really works in the real world.

Kevin has also traveled around the world searching for the best protocols, foods, medicines and clinics around and bringing them to the readers of his blog RenegadeHealth.com — which is one of the most widely read natural health blogs in the world with hundreds of thousands of visitors a month from over 150 countries around the world.

So funny because of all the sites I used to frequent, this was the one I admired the most. I guess I am too 2008! Can’t wait to see the new design!

  2. Dan O'Neal says:

Brand Spanking New – as in a newborn baby!

  3. Debbie says:

What you really need Kevin and Annmarie is a “Little Renegade” of your own running around…you need to keep this going for generations…..if you know what I mean ? wink wink, times a wasting. It’s all good, thanks for all you do, and all you manifest in the future. Blessings

  4. IH says:

NO suggestions. It all sounds fantastic!! Great that you guys will be posting not only raw recipes. I guess you have tuned in what is going on: “the raw only approach” is kind of getting old. I really hope you’ll have Ann Louise Gittleman on the show one day

  5. Dana Naylor says:

Wow Kevin, you and your team are amazing. As a personal Health Coach myself, I know how much effort and time you put into educating others through your site. I admire your passion and mission and enjoy feeling like I’m part of it.

Wishing you much Aloha from Maui!
    Dana

  6. Veronica says:

    Sounds great!

Brand “spanking” new refers to the time 400 or 50 years ago and farther back, when doctors would literally spank newborns after cutting the umbilical cord. The purpose? To get them to cry so they could take their first breath of oxygen. I think I was one of those babies. Anybody else?

  7. Tyra McMahon says:

Glad to know your bringing the recipes back.

To tell you the truth I actually stopped looking at your emails and mostly deleted them. I guess I was bothered by the fact that you never said you were going to stop the recipes, you just did. I also missed seeing and hearing you guys in the videos. I’m not into too much reading and audio’s all the time.

I’m looking forward to your new format.

    Thanks!!

  8. Nichole says:

    Hey Kev,

I have noticed a major buzz with video product reviews. This is very common in the beauty industry. It is a great interactive way to get the audience connected. It may also take some of the labor burden off of you.

I would love to view short product review videos from some of your customers. To get an understanding of how they are using some of your products, which they found most helpful and etc. I may interested in posting videos too!

    Hope this helps 🙂

  9. All sounds good to me… Look forward to being a part of the Inner Circle.

  10. Marcus says:

I agree with Debbie. You need a little Renegade. The workload you have announced here is way beyond the 4 hour work week 🙂 great work you are doing!!!!

  11. Leam says:

Miss the actual Show part of Renegade Health. Makes sense if you’re choosing not to do videos to change up the whole system. Think it would be nice if you were able to do interviews on video – for instance taping yourself interviewing someone using Skype or FaceTime. Sorry, must admit to not listening to interviews no matter how interesting or compelling. Find myself trying to multitask while listening and end up doing both poorly.

  12. AlanRoy says:

For your web makeover: I would like an end to the rolling, scrolling, flashing, animated ads. They are visually annoying, and slow down my browser response. Seriously, they make your web page look cheap and low class.

  13. Lilija says:

All sounds great! However I would really like to see more videos. Of course, I understand that expressing your views correctly and in a well structured way is easier in an article than in a show. It’s just that some videos from time to time create this very personal connection (from viewers point of view). And let’s face it – the success of your blog is based not only on great and accurate health info, but very much on your charismatic personality. You inspire people! And this inspiration can be handed over through videos much more then through well structured, professional articles. Happy I found you guys! 😉
    Lilija

  14. satori says:

Sounds so exciting! I really want to see customer reviews on the products you’re selling especially your original products. No one buys things online without reading customer reviews nowadays, right?

  15. cindi says:

sounds great .. i have missed the vids and the receipes…. and the articles sound great… u guys are great the way u share all that u know and try to help everyone…. ty ty ty

  16. Patty Cason says:

Can’t wait…change is good. Thanks for all your hard work.

  17. LynnCS says:

Anything you do would be great. Looking forward to the changes. I like the videos cause I can prop up the computer in the kitchen and listen while working. Love the articles so I can go back and pick up details. The interviews are great to get the professional advise from Dr. Williams. If you include other interviews, we’ll get what we get from them. I always love all the research you do and report on. Must be a lot of work though. Nice to get a break from doing that all alone. Looking forward to the new format etc. Lynn

  18. Gen says:

I agree, change is good. However, I, too miss your RV days for that was when I first began watching and learning from you guys and it was like catching up with friends each day.

All the best with your new venture/format. I look forward to the recipes too.

  19. Kuru says:

I agree with Lilaja that inspiring others is one of your strong suits and comes across more imminently (LOL) on video.

I hope you’ll let us know the scorecard on the most requested people to interview. That was fun. I’m really looking forward to you and Dr. Oz!

And what about the Little Renegade?

  20. Lauren says:

Ditto on moving ads. Hard to focus. Also others have mentioned time constraints. Me, too. For every video, I’d like to know the exact time in advance so I can plan. Also shorter, more to the point highlights in print and video are a huge help. I want barebones info so I can learn without taking more time than I have. This is a big one. Many times I’ve been tempted to try your products, but your shipping costs are the highest I’ve found, so I don’t order. Don’t know how you can lower them, but maybe a new fulfillment company. Your products are lightweight and shouldn’t cost that much to mail. Amazon ships heavy books for less and if you order over $25, shipping is free. That would encourage people to order even more! I do like and trust your info–keep up the good work.

  21. Terri says:

Flying unicorns, Kev. I want my flying freakin unicorns ! 🙂

Seriously, this all sounds great. Really looking forward to all of the changes, especially the new and expanded recipes.

I don’t comment much, but visit every day, not just for the info, which I think is some of the best on the web, but because of you and Ann. As someone else said, it’s the charisma and energy and just plain lovability of you two that have made this site what it is.

    But unicorns couldn’t hurt.

  22. MJ says:

Sorry to say, I mostly delete your emails now. I came here hoping you were going back to videos. I liked it better when you did videos. I don’t have time to read articles, there are a bazillion websites out there that have articles and experts, etc. What made your content unique was your personalities on the videos (made it watchable) and raw recipes. Looks like I’ll have to go somewhere else for that.

  23. Patrice says:

I look forward to your upcoming changes. Echo some others comments here – I never know how long your videos are and some of them are over an hour. It would be great to see beforehand so I can plan to come back and listen. Right now if it’s a video I’ll read the writeup of there is any and delete the mail. Personally I prefer to read, I can print it out if needed and make notes. I have a learning disability that makes it difficult to absorb informaion from hearing alone, I have to transcribe videos or recordings to get anything from them. I see others feel differently, but I think you’ve been hitting a nice balance between the two. Love Dr Williams. Finally, for the written material you sell it would be great to have a preview. I understand you mainly sell digital material but at least a look at the table of contents would help in deciding if the purchase meets my needs. Keep up the good work!

  24. Joan says:

I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO THE RECIPES AGAIN!!! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK – I ENJOY FOLLOWING YOUR BLOG…

  25. Looking forward to the return of the receipes. I didn’t miss the videos as they were always stopping in the middle of a sentence. Took for-eeeeeeeeeeever to get through one of them. Preferred the reading. Now if you can get the videos to play all the way through without the YouTube quality than I will be happy to watch again.
I would like to be able to search for receipes by ingredients and/or products you sell. Example: I just purchased your Irish Moss and your Muna. Lucky for me you had a receipe listed under each otherwise I would be wondering what it was that I wanted to make with these two items.
Thanks for your consideration and for weeding through all the information – real and not real about health and healing.

  26. Brandi says:

For your Inner Circle you could always link to a Google+ account and hold a ‘hang out’.

Also, I forgot to comment in the post about speaker suggestions and recently came across William Davis, M.D., author of Wheat Belly. He would be a great speaker since many people don’t know about all the side effects of wheat, i.e. weight gain, ibs, acne, diabetes, hypertension, etc.

  27. Jacqueline says:

I’m also glad to see the return of the recipes.
I would like to see more of the different or opposite points of view on a given subject. Maybe you will be doing that in your interviews…

Congratulations! Am really looking forward to the updates!!

    Jacqueline

  28. Lindsey says:

I miss your videos on youtube sooooo much. I just don’t have time for blogs. Please come back to YOUTUBE LAND!!!!

  29. Janet says:

Wow! Looking forward to these exciting changes!
I miss the contact with you guys through the videos too. Hanging out with you & Ann Marie was a daily ritual. I felt a big gap when the videos first stopped! If you have more experts writing articles, maybe you could comment on their content by video …. give your opinion, your personal experience with the topic, make comparisons to other approaches, etc.
Yeah, warmth & charisma is really your thing!!! I prefer when you answer questions in written form though. Your Q & A videos were my least favourite. I liked your personal experiences with health approaches, your visits to health centres & retreats, the exercise demos & recipes, as well as your personal moments … showing us a special place you enjoy hiking, your travel stuff, Jonny 5 ….. 🙂
And I agree that Dr. Williams’ info is wonderful! And your Great Health Debate was a truly incredible piece of work!!!
Big thanks for all you both do!!! XXXOOO

  30. Charles says:

    Hi, Kev & Ann Marie,

I’ve stopped looking at most of your newsletters because it appears to be more about your business than the info, and because I get them so frequently. Seems like the shotgun approach to marketing – going for the numbers. We are all being bombarded with too many emails. Eventually, I stop the flood by unsubscribing.

I want to know about your business products, too, but keeping them separate will allow you to target your audience better, and make it easier for me to manage your emails, depending on my time.

How about separating your promo emails from your info/teaching emails? And how about sending only one info/teaching email per week? I would rather have one larger comprehensive newsletter than 7 smaller ones. And maybe you could do a corresponding video – you could handle one a week, right? Then people could choose to watch or read or both. Don’t overload us with too much information, please. Most of us learn in bite-sized, digestible chunks.

Also, I love your recipe videos. Good food, good friends, and good fun! I’m glad they are coming back. Also a good tool to promote the products you sell. If we know more ways to use them, you will sell more.

Could you also make a downloadable pdf version of the recipe that could easily be printed out without any more work on my part? Copying, pasting, reformatting by hundreds of people could all be done once by your staff, saving us all lots of time. I could easily put all of the recipes into a Renegade Health Recipe book. You could also put a hyperlink in the pdf recipe to the video. Then when I pass the recipe on to others, your website info will be on it, and others will be able to easily view the corresponding video. While you are at it, why not create a downloadable cover page(s) with your photos on it, too? If you use the same format for each recipe, it will look consistent, well thought out, and beautiful.

I have lots of other ideas. If you are interested, please let me know.

Are you still enjoying the journey? Let’s keep it fun.

    • Kevin Gianni Kevin Gianni says:

Hey Charles, thanks for your comments here!

About the business, I have to wholeheartedly disagree with you.

Each and every day, I pay 5 full time salaries to make this blog happen. I could do this one of two ways. (1) Sell as many products as possible at the lowest possible price to capture market share — regardless of their health value — or (2) sell only products that I use, like and trust and would recommend to my family.

The second route is much harder, but much more fulfilling.

Everyday, I also spend 10-16 hours gathering information, managing our team and pointing them in the best direction with you in mind. “What can we do to help you make better sense of this whole health thing?” is what I ask myself daily.

I again, could do this 2 ways. (1) I could work at a non-related full time job and do this as a hobby — which would fractionalize my time and likely hurt the quality of the information or (2) I can make it work by making this a full-time commitment to you and our team.

As for the promotions, every day we publish a free article or content piece that you can read, please do not forget this.

If you were to watch TV or read a magazine, you would be pitched all types of crap that didn’t have your best interests in mind. All the things we share are products we take or recommend at one time or another (or are really fun.)

And just like a commercial (or in our case — a conscious commercial), you can always skip over it (with TiVo!) and get to the free stuff.

Sorry to be so blunt, but I’m tired of people not understanding how much time, energy, commitment, change, love, heart, creativity, struggle, lack of sleep, motivation, drive, hurt, and joy it takes to make this all happen. 🙂

      Love you all!
      Kev

P.S. I have taken your other suggestions with an open mind and appreciate them greatly. 🙂

  31. another vote for recipies! Those videos were very fun to watch, and learn how to make things (and how they were supposed to look)

Mostly, I hate how when I click on the link to the blog, it asks me to log in. Then I have to re copy and paste the link into the browser, then it will let me in. AFter this, your pages take FOREVER to load, so I end up doing something else and coming back later. If you can just fix these issues, I’d be a happy camper with flying unicorns.

Thanks for all you do, I love you guys!

  32. Brenda says:

    Kevin,
I miss seeing you, Anne Marie and Johnny Five. The videos got my attention and made me feel like I know you all. Being a Naturopath for more than two decades, I read, read, read and take classes all the time on health related topics. Your videos made it fun, exciting and inspirational. I know change is good, and I welcome it. I just wanted you to know that it was your warm, friendly videos that got my attention.
I love what you are doing to educate people in the health realm. You are awesome! 😀

  33. Kathy says:

Even though you change things up periodically, this site always has a high quality and consistency. I never worry about coming here and trying to get sold on some millionaire MLM scheme. I know you advertise products from your store, but never feel like you are giving the hard sell on some snake oil. You advise us to do what works best for us and to get tested (imagine that) rather than going on blind faith. I appreciate your down to earth attitude – especially when a lot of raw food gurus seem to live in the clouds with their ideas…you guys rock!

  34. shine says:

ive missed you too – id love to see the discussion forum more active.
glad the recipes are returning and that they wont be all raw..did you ever talk about not been raw vegan now – id love to know but maybe i missed it sometime back..its liberating that you arent anyway

lastly i think jonnie five should have a new slot..i miss him

  35. Jayvanthy says:

I live on the coast of India, so I suppose the seaweeds which You use in your recepies (& even some of the greens) should be easily available. But I don’t know the local names. Where can I get this Information? Getting Imported stuff is prohibitively costly.

  36. naomi says:

yeah, firstly, and again, thanks for all the time you take, to teach us! i too, won;t listen to audio – just dont have the time…blogged recaps would be appreciated although theres more work for you again! i think you guys are way too busy to be worryin bout a little gianni yet!! and i too loved your short and sweet videos which showcased your humour and enthusiasm – in fact was watching some old episodes on youtube just yesterday! X

  37. Kym says:

From your description, all of the changes sound excellent – particularly the ability to respond to specific comments on the blog.

If I could make a suggestion for the interviews: how about limiting them to a short and sweet five or six minutes or so and asking a person to talk in-depth about a specific, defined point(s)? I’m hoping that would maybe yield a small number of practical take-home points that we can apply to our lives.

For example, that interview with Dr Williams on injectable supplements where he explained the different types of B12 was brilliant. I really appreciated the more advanced content. Dr Williams is fascinating.

Apart from that, thanks for what you do. I realize you want and deserve to make money from the site but I appreciate the way you have resisted becoming an all-out Net marketer type. Most other health advocates seem to have succumbed to it as they have become more well-known.

This is a unique site on the Net and I hope it will remain so after these changes. (I own most of your e-books so I’m definitely ready to give back.)

  38. Velda says:

Kevin, I miss the videos also. I hope you plan on incorporating some videos from time to time. I would absolutely love to join your innter circle, but you usually have your weekly calls in the morning, and I am at work in the morning so can’t listen or join. If you happen to start a call in the evenings, I could more than likely do that – unless it is Thursday evenings because I join the Natural News Talk Hour.

By the way, do you know who Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride is? I think she is really interesting, and you might find her research and findings of interest as well. Here is a website for her. If you find her of interest, she might be a person you could interview.

    http://www.gaps.me/preview/?page_id=35

Kevin, thanks so much for everything you bring to this venue. You are so creative and talented and informed. You are truly a blessing!!

  39. Kai says:

I’ve always wanted to access your video library by # and title.
    Same with blogs.

It just would be nice to scroll through everything you’ve done and pick up episodes or blogs missed.

    Thanks

  40. Jana says:

I liked the videos too. I read a lot every day and I could always manage to take in just a little more information at the end of the day with your videos. Plus, it’s always refreshing to see a couple who appears to genuinely enjoy each others’ company day after day after day. That should be commonplace imo but it’s not.

The upcoming changes sound great with an extra big thumbs up to Dr Brownstein coming on board!

  41. Cindy says:

I love it that you’re going to add the recipes back, especially doing some that aren’t all raw. I have to agree with many others though about the videos. I miss them & don’t have time to read all of the articles. It was much easier to watch a quick little video. Plus, you guys are so cute.

  42. Fen says:

I’m looking forward to the recipes too. I think you’ve been doing a fantastic job. Keep it up. Just a note though, I mostly use my iPad to access the Internet, so please please please do not use anything that requires flash. Thank you.

  43. Kym says:

    Kevin,

Your comment to Charles was really insightful. With all the info coming at us these days, it can be fairly overwhelming and it does take commitment to keep up with you. Followers become emotionally invested and that can create a feeling of “ownership.”

I maintain my own travel site so I can appreciate the enormous amount of work you do (though I didn’t realize how big you had become) and as someone who has been following you since before The Renegade Health Show, I can see where Charles is coming from.

So, how about pulling back the curtain and showing everyone what goes on behind the scenes at RH? You do do this from time to time but how about showing your five staff in action? Or how about a “day in the life” type series for you and Ann Marie? Or just a segment explaining your philosophies on health commerce. (I realize you’ve covered this before.)

You could archive this on the About page and when people give you the Net marketer thing, you can just post the link to remind them. No judgment here. Just trying to return some of the incredible value you provide.

  44. Em says:

I think Charles’ comments have been really useful in opening up the discussion as to what really needs to happen for an enterprise like this to not just survive but thrive…and after all, who wants to be just ‘surviving’, anyway…

(Btw, I quite liked some of Charles’ later suggestions – really good ideas!)

Kevin, your response to Charles was measured and eye-opening. Thanks for your honesty here.
Kym, yours too, really added to my understanding.

Can’t wait to have that piece of tech you mentioned Kevin, that allows people to directly respond to someone’s comment, rather than just post it up at the end (as I’m doing)… 🙂

  45. An optimal question is : where is the best place I make the best difference for the best thing?

By asking and answering this question you could optimise the way you work. (to Kev and the lovely followers here).

PS. “Brand Spanking new” is a term we use in England quite a lot. No idea where it came from but my Gran used it if I recall correctly.

  46. Rachel says:

Never mind two-thousand-and-eight…. I’m ALWAYS late! LOL
Here it is 2 days later… and Id like to reiterate above comment “anything you do will be great” !

Well, let’s not get too full of ourselves… I applaud your interest in cutting edge and keeping fresh and interesting and evolving.

    yes, I’ve missed the vid’s
    especially the cooking/kitchen ones
but I have understood that you can only do so much.
    And you do. So much.

I love the community you’ve created — I don’t ever comment/add here, but I do read your column/s almost every week, or add them to my reading list.

your site and content is SUCH a great resource. ty ty ty ty

With love and in admiration, RDP

  47. Teri says:

You’re always thinking of us including us….thanks!

I admire you and Annmarie so much. It’s so good you’re on the side of the good guys 🙂

I love the once-a-week interview idea. Interviews with experts are my favorite because I can listen while I do other things like clean and cook etc. Multi-tasking. Can’t do that by reading articles as easily. Thx!
