After Dr. Raleigh Duncan and I tested his infrared saunas for EMF (see that here), we sat down in the sauna for a talk about how infrared saunas detoxify the body.

In this interview, he also explains why saunas are important to use (whether they’re your own, or you hang out in your friend’s.)

Check it out here…

Your question of the day: What is the best experience you’ve had in a sauna?

He started seriously researching personal and preventative natural health therapies in 2002 when he was struck with the reality that cancer ran deep in his family and if he didn’t change the way he was living — he might go down that same path. Since then, he’s written and edited 6 books on the subject of natural health, diet and fitness. During this time, he’s constantly been humbled by what experts claim they know and what actually is true. This has led him to experiment with many diets and protocols — including vegan, raw food, fasting, medical treatments and more — to find out what is myth and what really works in the real world.

Kevin has also traveled around the world searching for the best protocols, foods, medicines and clinics around and bringing them to the readers of his blog RenegadeHealth.com — which is one of the most widely read natural health blogs in the world with hundreds of thousands of visitors a month from over 150 countries around the world.

  1. Michael says:

Haha! First kiss with my wife was in an infrared sauna!

  2. Beth says:

Would love to have an infrared sauna at home. Not a priority at the moment, but I will bookmark their site for future reference.
Many good episodes of “girl talk” in the steam sauna.

  3. Wendy says:

I bought an infrared mat that I lay on, on top of my mattress. It has jade pieces on it that heat up. Is this acceptable for healing my body?

  4. Interesting, yes, of course far-infrared heat is healthy and natural (but not the EMF’s
radiating from it). The medical community does its’ best to downplay the benefits of far-infrared heat even though it is safe and effective for 99% of us.
Yes the information did seem like a commercial for them (perhaps you would like to offer what I sell and I can train you?).
I think there are ‘other’ choices with far-infrared.
Honestly I have been using and selling the
Amethyst Biomats for six years now. These are mats that you lie on/sleep on/get a massage or energy work on/take a nap on…
    far-infrared, negative ions, amethyst quartz
mats in five sizes that you LIE ON. Get on them and benefit EVEN WITHOUT SWEATING, the time limit is based on your own tolerance and needs. Much, much, more versatile than a FIR sauna where you must sweat in a time limit.
Will I buy a FIR sauna someday? probably, when I have my own home (I rent).

  5. I’d caution anyone looking into buying an infrared sauna to sit in one first, and make sure it will provide what you’re expecting.

Infrared saunas do not provide the same environment that a true traditional Scandinavian style sauna does. We’ve had customers call us trying to turn their infrared saunas into a traditional sauna (something that often isn’t possible because of the quality, or lack thereof, of materials used) because they were disappointed with it’s performance. We’ve even heard people compare their infrared sauna to sitting in a closet with a space heater – definitely not what most people think of when they think of a sauna.

Please make sure you know what you’re purchasing. There’s nothing more disappointing that expecting one thing and getting another.
