Sebastian enjoying a Peruvian smoothie… Ingredients: Raw egg, condensed milk, banana, malt, papaya, carrot juice, and beer (I forget the rest…)
As you know we’re a little different than most…
We soak our nuts, we don’t think twice to adding kale to a banana smoothie, and we definitely are looking for the best health with the least global impact.
It’s a cool place to be.
It also requires a certain amount of effort and education.
I’m convinced, after talking to many, many people who’ve chosen this path, that if you’re not paying attention to what you’re doing, it might not work out so well for you.
Recently, a book was released about a 20 year vegan who was arguing that the vegan diet was dangerous.
What’s shocking is that in her book she reveals that she didn’t have a menstrual period for many years.
(I’m not going to mention the book or her name, because I don’t feel her “research” is something I want to even negatively endorse!)
This is a sure and obvious sign of deficiency / hormone imbalance that should have and could have been addressed way before she came to a conclusion that the vegan diet is dangerous.
What’s dangerous is ignorance. (Please don’t read this as stupidity… I mean innocent ignorance.)
I’m not arguing here whether the vegan diet is right or wrong.
I’m arguing that those who practice it have to be educated and careful.
We can’t just eat “as nature intended” and think we’re doing OK for ourselves.
While some may, others may run into challenges.
What makes sense is that we know for sure.
This is why we need to watch out for certain markers that could indicate we’re not getting enough nutrients.
The markers are many, but I’m going to mention a few here because I want you to get good results…
First off, we need to check for Vitamin D and B12 deficiency. You guys already may know this, but it’s worth mentioning again and again.
These are incredibly common in all populations – not only vegan / raw / veggie.
Low Vitamin D can lead to suppressed immune system, increased risk of cancer and issues with mineral absorption.
Low B12 can leave to irreversible neurological issues.
“Irreversible” is the key word in that sentence.
But this is just the beginning…
Many vegans / raw foodies need to look at their cholesterol as well.
This will indicate if they are able to produce the proper amount of hormones the body needs for the endocrine system to function properly.
If your cholesterol levels are too LOW, this will happen.
It’s also important to look at pregnenolone levels as well.
Pregnenolone, mainly produced in the adrenals as well as other endocrine glands, is a pre-hormone that is synthesized into other hormones like DHEA, estrogen, testosterone and more.
If you don’t have enough pregnenolone, you’re definitely going to be sluggish, agitated, low energy and have low sex drive.
These are just some of the issues… iron and B complex are others that are essential to regulate.
It’s not impossible, but it requires more than just faith, some anecdotal stories and listening to experts.
You or the experts have no idea where your body is without analyzing your blood levels.
They can guess, but I can’t say they’ll get it right.
So it would make sense that you know where you are – particularly if you’ve decided to try a specialized diet like raw food, vegan or vegetarian.
Blood testing is the way to go.
I’ve been talking about the “How to Read Your Blood Tests” program all week, not only because I’m excited about it, but because I think it could save lives and could bring more credibility to the vegan / raw community.
It’s a tool that can help you understand what tests you need to take and why.
It also explains the REAL levels you should be looking for when you read your blood testing results.
Dr. Williams has also listed the specific tests anyone on a Vegan / Vegetarian diet should take.
I’m convinced this program is a game changer in many ways because it’s priced fairly and gives you access to the knowledge of Dr. Williams who’s had over 100,000 patient visits over 30 years.
You now can take the control over your medical visits by knowing what all those numbers mean and where they should be.
Very empowering.
