Ann, Mike Adams and I (looking poodle-ish) at Expo West 2010
Every week, I usually learn new things.
This week is no exception.
I’m going to share with you 7 things I learned this week about health (and more).
Maybe they’ll help you learn too…
1. If the feed has salmonella, those chickens are sick.
News on Thursday told us that one possible cause of the salmonella poisoning of eggs across the country was contaminated feed.
Feed is pasteurized before selling, so chances are, where ever that feed is being stored is just as nasty as the bottom of the chicken coop.
This industry does not care about life.
Those chickens (not the birds) should be forced to spend 3 months in their own coops eating the same food they were feeding these poor animals.
Do you think it would change their minds?
2. I need a hobby.
You probably knew this already… LOL!
But I need a hobby… not like building model trains or anything like that, but I need a sports hobby.
I’ve always been competitive and have always been involved in some sort of sport since I was young.
This month, I’ve been aching to join a team sport to get my competition fix.
I was playing tennis for a while in Sausalito, but then went to Costa Rica and Peru. When I got back, I decided I wanted to play with a more challenging group. I haven’t found them yet, and now we’re leaving San Francisco for 6 months or so.
Tennis seems like it’s on hold for a while.
I want to try volleyball, but I think I’ll have to wait until we stay in a place for more than 6 weeks.
3. A 15 pound workout vest makes life more difficult.
I’ve been training with a 15 pound workout vest the last couple of weeks – running up stairs, squats, lunges, inchworms, alligator walks, everything.
Yesterday, I didn’t have the vest and did the whole workout I’ve been doing.
It was much less difficult. The workout was almost fun… almost.
Just adding 15 pounds made my life much more difficult. Imagine adding more?
What if it wasn’t a vest – just body fat.
It pays in so many ways to slim down.
4. Cold watermelon is about 400% better than room temperature watermelon.
Last week I said I learned it was better to eat watermelon with a shirt off.
This week, still on my watermelon kick, I ate some cool right after an intense workout.
It was markedly better than any watermelon experience I remember in the last few years.
Why?
I had it in the fridge overnight.
It’s in entirely unscientific, but I believe watermelon is 400% better when it’s cold – with or without a shirt.
5. NaturalNews.TV is a fun place to hang out.
My friend Mike Adams of NaturalNews.com has put together a YouTube for health videos. It’s called NaturalNews.TV.
I’ve been working on uploading all the Renegade Health Shows there and while I’ve been doing so, I’ve been watching a fair share of video.
NaturalNews.TV is a lot better than YouTube, because it focuses on just health.
This is good news, because a trip there will guarantee you don’t get sucked into the “YouTube 30″ and end up watching little kids confused on pain medications, Susan Boyle, or videos of kittens for the rest of the day.
(Last I heard the average YouTube viewer spends about 30 minutes on the site each visit.)
6. Peaches aren’t as good anymore.
For the last month, we’ve had some amazing peaches and other stone fruit.
I’ve been eating 3, 4, 5 of them a day.
This week was the first week that I noticed they weren’t as good anymore. Maybe we got them from the wrong place or it was a bad batch, but I have a feeling I’m going to have to wait until next year for more good ones.
7. August is slow.
In all senses of the word. It’s just a slow, lazy month.
Next August, we’re going to take a vacation like everyone else.
(Don’t worry, we’ll still have a show for you!)

Live Awesome!

I live 10 miles from Iowa, the state with the egg producer recently in the news with salmonella contamination. I just read that the owner has had repeated violations–has been branded a “habitual violator” of Iowa’s environmental laws. This label was supposed to ban him from building any more farms, but he was able to find a way around them. I am now hoping that he will be forced to change.
Since we still use eggs occasionally, we have been buying them from local organic producers.
It breaks my heart that chickens (and pigs) are put in these awful conditions. I grew up on a farm and, while I was not fond of chickens, they were definitely free range

4. Completely agree.
6. Peaches are just perfect right now in Albuquerque.
7. In NM schools starts in August, so not so slow of a month.

Not to worry, Kevin. It was announced in the news that all those recalled salmonella eggs will not go to waste. The government will allow them to be put into ice cream, baking mixes, mayonnaise, and anything else that eggs go into among the myriad varieties of processed foods. So watch out for those pancakes . . . they may be lethal. Good reason to eat only raw foods.
The guy that owns those farms must be a heavy-duty “campaign contributor” to congress.

Hi Kev,
See your picture with Mike but do not see today’s video?
Thanks,
Michelle

Yes, I completely agree!! I can’t stand watermelon at room temperature. It must be chilled in the fridge, and overnight it best. Then it’s truly amazing!
I think 400% is exactly right!

I want to join a sports team too! I miss the competitive edge of soccer SOOOO MUCH.
I’ve learned that I miss really feeling like I belong with a group of people and friends, feeling connected and together and not just through the internet, through face to face interactions.

Kev I love your website but usually my only chance to watch your daily show is when I’m eating. I can’t eat & read as well as I can watch….:)

Kevin, have you ever played ultimate? I started playing about 5 years ago and its great! Now my wife and our 16 and 18 year old sons also play. A little competitive, lots of running, skill testing, and most of all a great game filled with “flow”, strategy, and teamwork. Usually there is a drop in or beginner league nearby. Check it out!
