Why Family Won’t Listen to Your Health Advice : The Renegade Health Newsletter

Why Family Won't Listen to Your Health Advice
Our parents on our wedding day… and, yes, in many cases they do listen to us – when it comes to health at least!

I just got an email from a friend of mine…

His little sister (she’s in her 40’s) has been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and it’s tearing him up inside.

He’s not necessarily torn up because of the cancer – though that’s obviously an issue – he’s torn up because she knows there are other options and won’t even entertain them.

Because he’s a friend of mine, he’s familiar with juicing, alternative medicine, Gerson Therapy and a healthy, preventative lifestyle.

As you and I both know, any of these therapies are NOT a magic pill or silver bullet when it comes to helping the body heal itself. This can be a long and tiresome journey, sometimes leading to success, and other times not.

But what I can say, almost across the board, is that the quality of life is improved for those who choose to take care of their bodies, not poison themselves with chemicals and nasty treatments.

Of course, this is all my own personal opinion.

:-)

The situation my friend is in is similar to a situation you’ve probably been in as well.

Maybe not as serious as cancer, but serious enough to cause you a bit of heartache and anguish, when you know a viable and little known solution to a health issue or two.

Maybe your friend or family member was sick or having issues with their health and you gave them some advice that they didn’t take.

Why does this always seem to happen?

What would make them not take your advice?

There are, of course, other factors at play here.

1. The authority of the doctors.

The authority of the doctor – born in the 18th century – has not left our culture. Until it does, we’ll continue to fall into the trap of helplessness when it comes to our own treatment.

This does not mean don’t listen to your doctor.

It just means, do you own research as well.

Chances are your doctor has one option for you.

What if you had 3 or 4?

2. The disbelief that any family member could know more than the doctors.

How is it possible that a family member or friend could be more knowledgeable about an issue than
a doctor?

Well, it happens all the time – and until this disbelief fades, there will be more suffering and heartache.

3. Stubborness.

Let’s face it, we’re just plain stubborn about a lot of things.

One thing, for sure, that most people are extremely stubborn about is changing their diet (or anything else they’re used to doing, even if it’s killing them – literally).

This part of human nature will no likely go away soon.

4. Lack of faith.

If you don’t think something is going to work, in many cases, you’ll sabotage it enough so it doesn’t.

You have to have deep faith. Without it, you’re sunk.

5. Deep seeded lack of desire and dis-satisfaction for life. (Subconscious or conscious)

This is truly the hardest to pin point, but in some cases, a person who gets into a situation where they are threatened would (1) rather let someone else take care of it or (2) feel like they have been dealt a bad deck and just don’t care that much (subconsciously) about what the outcome will be.

Some would rather die, to prove a point that they were wronged in some way.

It’s human nature to blame outside circumstances when you get hurt or get sick. This blame will only help you stew more and reach out for others to help you without taking responsibility for your situation.

You are the only one who can change who you are.

No one else can do it for you.

Pointing blame will only make you more miserable, and in some cases… worse.

Anyway, with these points laid out, I still reflect back to my friend’s situation and wonder…

Why would anyone choose milk and sugar and cheese burgers and soda over the chance to see their daughter start elementary school, go on her first date, or walk down the aisle.

It’s amazing to think when you put it in that perspective, doesn’t it?

I don’t have the answer.

Maybe you know why… if so, let us know what you think with your comments below.

Before I go, as you know I mentioned Gerson Therapy above.

We teamed up with Charlotte Gerson to bring the world the Gerson Tapes, which are possibly the most popular product we have.

    Hi Kevin

You’re right, it is frustrating and I agree with all your reasons, but the most important one you left out. And that is loyalty. Bert Hellinger’s work shows that loyalty to a group is one of our most strongest and most useful evolutionary forces but it can also be very destructive, whether it is loyalty to our family or our culture or our religion. We know people will die or kill because of their loyalty to their religion or family, so it makes sense that they would die to maintain their loyalty to that most imposing of religions, modern scientific medicine. Robert Mendelsohn, the pediatrician who wrote Confessions of a medical heretic said it best when he pointed out that people go to their doctor to say confession, the doctor gives them the sacrament, if that doesn’t work they go to the high priest and when that doesn’t work they sacrifice themselves on the altar. Unfortunately, medicine’s PR machine does such a good job that most people don’t realise how little doctors know about the origins, causes and cures of nearly every disease nor do they realise that the parsdigms of scientific investigation are arranged so as to prevent new discoveries and optimum treatment, so they have no reason to consider anything except conventional treatment, and will only do so when it is too late.

    Hi Kevin!
    Hi Anne-Marie!

You’re right, we’ve all been in those situations. I was in one pretty similar to yours a couple of years ago.
My own mother was diagnosed with a nasty cancer, one of those they have no ‘treatment’ for, where the end is certainly coming within 3-6 months.
It was really frustrating for me, because i knew there was still a chance for her, but she just plain gave up there and then.
It’s really very hard indeed to watch someone suffer as she did when you know it didn’t necessarily have to be that way.
I even knew she had cancer 2-3 years before she was diagnosed. I could ’see’ it. I sent her to see the doctor and ask for a thorough check up (not telling her it was cancer) and they just patted her on the head and she trotted off. When they found it, it was ‘too late’.

You asked what it could be that makes someone give up on themselves like that.
In my mother’s case, I feel she felt she wasn’t worthy. She’s had a tough life that had ‘taught’ her that she was not in control. She gave her power to the doctors who did nothing for her and treated her badly. Bless her! She was given very tough news and I saw her crumble in the blink of an eye. In an instant she had given in to a life-time of brainwashing:”Doctor knows best!”.

She was having trouble with her digestion, which was terrible. And I suggested she drink more water, knowing if she drank enough it would help her digestion and the crazy thoughts, because the body was re-absorbing as much fluid as it could from her gut. She laughed with the nurse, telling her what I’d said and the nurse let her know that I was actually right. I think then, for a moment, she knew I knew what I was talking about. Who knows, she may even have wondered whether I had anything else useful up my sleeve. But I had told her when we knew her diagnosis that there things that could be tried. If she wanted, I would support her. I think that she felt God had abandoned her. That for some reason she was not worthy of his love. And she had been a most amazing spiritual seeker! She meditated for 8 hours a day! Every day! And there was a long period in her life when she meditated for 12 hours a day. I’m not kidding.

The difference with people like you two and me and all our friends and the others who hide from their real choices, is that we recognise we have a choice and we want what is best for us. We are taught in profound ways that doctors know best. It takes real guts to take responsibility and that’s because of our conditioning.

I want very much to transition. I hope that I can do it. And yet I struggle too to let go of what ‘is expected of me’. And on other levels, it’s so easy.

I’m sure there are other reasons as well for people giving up on themselves but this was just meant to be a quick email, so the basic answer is above. Of course, there are other levels of complexity.

Thank you very much for your work. Watching your films has encouraged me. I hope to meet you on the other side (of transitioning).

All the best to you and yours!

Yeah, I did have a similar problem with my wife going ahead with a colon operation and no way of convincing her to seek an alternative approach.

As it was the tumour was benign though the after effects of the operation, some seven years later, are still troubling her.

Today her mindset is totally different.

The difficulty of people refusing to entertain the possibility that the doctor may be wrong lies in two things.

Firstly, people have an innate belief and trust in the medical profession.

Secondly, the sneaky and subtle manner in which the patient gets brainwashed.

The doctor says “You need an operation yesterday, not tomorrow.” and that is accepted as fact, rather than being questioned.

That, together with the fear which people already have in their mind about cancer (and heart problems), turns the patient into an accepting and meek lamb, ready to submit to be slaughtered.

So an ongoing education about the deviousness of doctors (some, not all) is essential to turn people into a questioning patient.

The second incident happened when my wife had a heart attack and underwent a test and was told she needed a heart bypass operation.

And of course, the cardiologist used the standard phrase ‘you need a bypass operation yesterday, not tomorrow’.

What he should have disclosed to my wife is that alternatively she could also be treated with medicine rather than having a bypass operation.

So here was the first big lie that was told.

The second and third big lie happened when my wife asked the surgeon what the mortality rate was for a bypass operation.

His reply was “Oh, about one percent”.

Another person (likely the anesthetist ?) piped up and corrected the surgeon by saying “No, it is more like half a percent”.

The true statistics for a person my wife’s age are in fact a risk of 10.6% of dying within the first month from the operation and a risk of 19.3% within the first twelve months (for a person my wife’s age).

As it fortunately turned out, instead of having a bypass operation, my wife finished up having a series of chelation treatments elsewhere and today is as good as gold. (no need to tell you that this kind of treatment was ridiculed and criticised by the medical profession).

Oh, I nearly forgot to mention that we asked a fourth specialist what the mortality rate was for a bypass operation for a person my wife’s age and his response was “about 2%”.

So here we have it, four specialists and four of them are telling lies.

Does the above tale bring home to you the message that most medical people cannot be trusted and that there is a need to also do one’s own research ?

I have another question on my mind, this time for you, the reader.

    Are these people

    (a) liars ?
    (b) crooks ?
    (c) murderers ?
    (d) all of the above ?
    (e) innocent, full of goodwill human beings ?

And, as far as cancer treatments are concerned, are these willing patients being informed that the success rate (meaning a survival rate of five years) is less than three percent ?

Wouldn’t that figure alone (if disclosed) create the need and desire to do some further research looking for alternative treatments ?

I’m just thinking about what you said Jim, response no.3,
I understand and appreciate where you are coming from.
However my inclination is that it is not as black and white as some doctors are o.k or even good and some are evil.
Maybe some are callous, but I also think that some are giving us brainwashing information because they themselves are brainwashed too, they accept years of misguided medical dogma without questioning where vested interests may be, such as with pharmaceutical companies, diary or meat industry etc. etc. I’m sure the list is endless.

It is so frustrating to see someone you love going through something traumatic, It leaves me feeling so helpless, but at the end of the day it’s their life and all I or anyone can do is offer love, support and options….

    Hi Kevin and Anne-Marie,
“Some would rather die, to prove a point that they were wronged in some way.” Oh! How true this can be and heartbreaking. My cousin just died of cancer and this statement describes the situation. All we can do is be as kind as possible and continually educate for health. Her brother ended up in the hospital shortly after and he fought his way out which was made easier by a careless mistake by his surgeon who had not read the chart and wanted to cut off the wrong part. He is at home, back to work and feeling fine. Thanks for the food stories.

its best for us to influence the younger generation whom has not has a choice of what their parents and society feed them and are now learning how to live and eat in a way the older generations have ignorant of.
the youths are allready addicted to the Standard american diet, and the elders are in the habit much more, but not all are ignorant. The oldest genesations can tell us how a fersh melon tasted befor pesticides and herbicides and all cides where brought upon the earth to demineralize soil.

I find that most people just plain ol’ don’t believe me. I’ve told my husband for decades that milk makes mucus (sinus troubles) and he responds “milk makes muscles”. Finally after reading the China Study and taking the 12 day MacDougall diet he now believes and we are vegan at home.
We tell our friends – who are always sick – about benefits of vegan and the response is universal: I’d rather die.
I ask “why don’t you just give up your diabetes / gout/ lupes?” and they look at me as an escaped lunatic.
    They simply don’t believe me.

BTW, my 2 months of diarrhea on raw diet was from the cabbage. NOOOO CABBAGE FOR ME! Now I can ease back to more and more raw.

Somehow I made my comment but it is not here, so I will try again. If anyone is interested in an over a year long fight with cancer look in the blog ‘cancer warriors’. This was the story of our young grandson’s fight with cancer and his wife’s heroic stand beside him. Even tho’ we, his grandparents and his parents, shared with him the Gerson Therapy Clinic and other alternatives, their choice was the chemo and radiation. He would not even accept wonderful healthy supplements from his own Mom. On Aug 14 of this year the chemo and radiation won and Ross left us forever. At least now he is free of all the pain and struggles they both went thro’. Goodbye, our beloved. We wish it could have ended differently but everyone is free to make their own choices. That would definitely not have been mine.
