This is great and I think its the perfect ‘next step’ for you both. Its also quit admirable that you are going back to school for yourself and for other people as well.
I’m 26 and have a college degree in Communications Media from Indiana University of Pennsylvania (the same college as the creator of YOUTUBE.COM).
I have decided to go back to school to be a certified Herbalist and I have the opportunity to learn from one of the top 10 western herbalists in the USA – Thomas Easley. He is very talented and he has decided to take me on as his apprentice.
I have already visited him in his home town and we have been on nature hikes where he has taught me all about the herbs that I would normally walk past on a daily basis – this is incredible knowledge.
Thank you for the inspiration and also kind of validating my choice to go back to school in a way.
Thank you for all the hard work you do Kevin and Ann Marie

Hi Guys, it’s great you two are going back to school. You never know where the next step will take you
10:34 am on July 16th, 2010
The only post-grad schooling I have seriously considered is seminary. Actually, it started with, “Have you ever thought about becoming a minister?” The answer had been no. But I do think that health of the spirit is as or even more important than health of the body – it’s hard to have one without the other.
10:36 am on July 16th, 2010
Wow this is a timely post! I have been in school for 2 years for Natuopathy, and last week I found out my school closed its doors. So I have been looking for another school, trying to decide if I want to continue on this path, possibly having to start over. I have not heard of this school so I am going to check it out! Thanks for sharing!

Hey guys! I SWORE you WERE going to say you were preggo!!!! Oh well, maybe next time.
Good luck with school! We’ll be very VERY interested to hear all about what you learn!!
10:48 am on July 16th, 2010
oh man have a baby, they are super cool, we made the best one yet with many jars of Healthforce spirulina, and sunflower sprout juice. He’s super happy, pure love baby.
School, do both, school and baby.
I think you guys should become doctors and then do it right without the drugs. Or the Hippocrates Health Educator program for 9 weeks.
Our rat had a cancer tumor and we quit feeding her rat food and only feed sunflower sprouts and bean sprouts and instead of being a golf ball now it’s a marble. Sprout miracle for our little ratty.
Congratulations, looks like a good program.

Hi guys!! It’s so great that you’ve decided to do this. I feel have an even greater well f knowledge to draw from when I talk to people about health since I’ve enrolled in school. I enrolled with the Institute for Integrative Nutrition at the beginning of this year. It’s great when you find a program that just resonates with you in a good way. The difference with IIN though, is I will be a certified health coach/counselor and I will be able to be certified by the American Association of Drugless Practitioners.
Thanks for the info from California College of Natural Medicine! My husband and I were actually thinking about moving to Cali. It might be an option for continuing my education later on.

i am a visual artist, mother, stepmother, “step” grandmother who went back to school to become a massage therapist (3000 hours training);
was involved in natural alternative health care( for personal and family use) forever and eating raw foods since the 80′s; now practicing for 11 years and loving continuing educ.,focusing on pregnant mothers, baby massage and now just did a course to add up doula work to my practice! educating my clients is a daily part of my work and all my personal knowlege and experience on foods is useful; so much to share and help others! i keep learning from you guys and other sources!
going back to school was a hugely challenging time AND equally exciting and engaging; ongoing continuing education is great, it is empowering!
have a successful learning time annmarie and kevin!

That is so interesting, because I’m going back to school in September to become a Registered Dietitian. That’s a great next step for you two. Education is always a great thing.
10:55 am on July 16th, 2010
Fantasdtic!!!!!! This is something I’ve been thinking about, so I’ll take a look.
10:55 am on July 16th, 2010
WooHooo!! I think that’s great. I’m in the process of doing the very same thing. I was going to start by taking classes locally, but I think I will check in to the California College of Natural Medincine, too.
Thanks, and good luck!
I really enjoy your show!

Yes,I have gone back to school. After my three kids got married i decided on going to get a degree and I am just about to finish my fourth and final year. my next step is to do my masters in Occupational Therapy and if the Lord permits I will be doing my Phd. in Alternative Lifestyle which will be similar to what you guys are doing. So keep up the good works and with God’s Blessings don’t stop.
10:59 am on July 16th, 2010
Your show today is another example to prove that nothing in life happens coincidentally!

Just a big inspiration to see that you are also going the way I am going! Have myself bought the german naturopathy “bible” of 1600 pages with an intent to study to become naturopath, same reasons as you really, wanting to have that degree that puts people at ease and for my own knowledge trying to help people in the future.
Same way as you started avidly with the first chapter and since then nothing much happened. Nice to see I am not the only one lacking ongoing discipline in that.
Wish you a great time studying and getting even wiser!
Thanks for being there by the way! Your show just brings me back on track every time!
Greetings from Amsterdam!

Yes, went back to school a few years ago: Accounting & Informations Systems (ISAC — Information Systems Audit and Control).
Congrats!
11:17 am on July 16th, 2010
I am so excited about you guys going back to school and am looking forward to hearing more about your experiences.
Yes, I have often considered going back to school, but didn’t have the time, etc. Maybe someday.
Regarding babies: I had mine 23 and 28 years ago–I did ok with the nutrition. I mean I didn’t drink alcohol, etc., but I sometimes wonder how it would have been different if I knew then what I know now.
11:20 am on July 16th, 2010
Congratulations on going back to school!
I’m thinking about going next year to become an ND! Can’t wait to hear about your journey:)
11:21 am on July 16th, 2010
I love that you all are going back to school! I’m still in school and feel like I’m going to be in school the rest of my life (only a mild exaggeration) studying herbalism, aromatherapy, homeopathy, Appalachian culture…eventually becoming a Naturopath, maybe haha.
And I think you two would make lovely parents!
11:24 am on July 16th, 2010
If I go back to school, I’ll be working toward a Masters in Social work.
Congratulations to both of you! That’s awesome!
11:24 am on July 16th, 2010
I chose to go back to school a number of years ago. When I cashed out of my corporate “stress” job… I went back to school to become a naturopath. It was a decision I have never regretted. I think the fact that you are chosing to get your education from a naturopathic school will be helpful in that you will not find yourself at odds with their information as is the case from many standard university clinical nutritionist programs. Good luck I wish you both well.
11:25 am on July 16th, 2010
I went back to school when I was 43! Took 4 yrs for nutritional consulting, master herbalist, and holistic health practitioner. I now have an office in Denver, Colorado. The best thing I ever did was to go back to school, for not only bettering my health , but the health of everyone who will listen to me. You are never too old to go back to school. You are never to old to keep educating yourself!
Ann Marie, nutritional consultant
11:28 am on July 16th, 2010
I have gone back to school
One time was not good but I can’t wait to go finish (I had a baby half way through). I’m half way through my Holistic Practitioner. I would also love to take a course like yours here in Canada from CSNN
Congrats guys! Never stop learning
11:37 am on July 16th, 2010
Congrats!!! How exciting!!!! I emailed you guys a few days ago regarding this topic… I am looking into going back to school also… wanting to get a nutritionist certificate… and look what you posted… How funny how things work!!!! Love you guys!!!! You both are awesome!!!! Keep doing what you do!!!!!
11:37 am on July 16th, 2010
So excited for you both! I finished my engineering the same year my youngest son (of
got his masters. I have had 5 careers, and don’t regret it at all! I think this is an excellent step for you both! Also sets a good example for your kids.
11:43 am on July 16th, 2010
I went back to school to get a master of science in nursing. I finished it in 2008 at the age of 57! Anyone out there who thinks it’s too late, think again! My brother, who will be 49 this year, is just finishing his bachelors degree in history and he is applying to law school to be an environmental lawyer. Actually, we have a whole family of late bloomers.
11:56 am on July 16th, 2010
Congratulations on going back to school! That must be so exciting. Try passing notes during class, dating again like collegekids, etc. Have fun!
I’d love to go back to school, the kids are 6 and 4 now, but it’s incredibly expensive in The Netherlands. Who knows, maybe I’ll find a way to fund it and still be able to pay all other bills.
And I agree with some other readers: have a baby! If you want to learn something more about yourself, about eachother, about life, about Love, have a baby!!!
12:04 pm on July 16th, 2010
Yes!
In our new lives (the ones where we get to live and not die, free from the illnesses we had), I have become a certified holistic aromatherapist! I’m getting ready to go through the second half of an Ayurvedic program I’ve been working on, as well.
My husband, in his new life of health, is finishing his last class in an Holistic Nutrition degree before he works on becoming an N.D. (traditional).
12:08 pm on July 16th, 2010
We are sooo happy for you guys!
School = YES
Kids= NO not yet.
It is absolutely perfect timing for you guys. And even though you guys seriously probably know most of the info, Im sure you will learn more AND get to have some mumbo after your names! Yes it does add to credibility.
It is also way cool that you guys get to do it together and still travel!!!
Whooo hooooo!!! We are here cheering you guys on! It wont always be easy Im sure. But definitely worth it.
Have not gone back to school, but always loved it! We are open to taking classes and going back if need be.
PS. There are enough kids running around, take your time! Enjoy EACH OTHER for awhile, get edumacated, have fun, then maybe kids.. You guys have too much work to do for kids! LOL>
Love yas!

I’m struggling with this very same decision right now!
I really resonated with your desire to have the degree to appease public perception and “validate” all of the knowledge that you’ve assimilated by non traditional means over the years, and yet, for your own peace of mind, have that strong background in anatomy, physiology and pathology to really have the strong critical thinking faculties that are needed to sift through the great volumes of health info that’s out there.
I struggled with the concept of going to a traditional college for nutrition, simply because it had been my experience that classically trained clinical nutritionists were absolutely clueless when it came to real health, almost as if they are the “diet lite” version of health professionals, due to their limited perceptions on the subject.
I’ve been looking for a school that has it’s fundamentals rooted in natural health so I’m grateful that you bought CCNM to my attention!
Thanks so much for sharing your journey!
12:17 pm on July 16th, 2010
Bonsoir,
Kevin & Annmarie, it is a good decision to get a scientific background in physiology and nutrition. I think it is a very important step for your business. However it takes years to become a expert in Sciences: myself I start to become an expert in molecular virology and cell biology after 11 years getting my Ph.D.
I started last year a clinical nutrition program per mail from the French government for a BSc. degree as dietitian, but I get very disappeated from the boring program at home alone with knowledges old from last 10 years. As molecular biologist I prefer to read fresh publications in Journal of nutrition, Cell metabolism or Journal of clinical nutrition. Plus these old knowledges are cleanly again vegetarian diet. So I frozed my program per mail and try to focus to find a job in research. I am applying to a degree as manager in clinical trials at University of Paris-Diderot and would continue my clinical nutrition program beside.
Kevin & Annmarie: when would you start your program ?
Good luck
Jérôme, in France

At this point in life I wouldn’t want to go back to school but I am an avid learner. It’s amazing what we can learn just from books and internet.
You guys look like you picked a great place to learn. I really, highly respect Theresa Dale. She goes beyond just nutrition. The energetic value of food is so much more important than numbers on a test. Energy is everything (with a handful of minerals to allow the energy to travel!)
Hope you guys learn some homeopathy from her too! Honestly, she is the only person who’s hormone therapy makes real sense. If you need a test subject for any of your courses, feel free to ask me!
12:24 pm on July 16th, 2010
Awesome!!
I’ve actually been debating on doing the same thing – in the same field – for the same reasons! (I teach health/nutrition seminars here in Boulder…) I’ve been looking between an R.D. vs a M.S. in Nutrition. (I’m not sure about how/where your degree fits in there…)
I’d love to hear your thoughts on why you chose that form of degree vs. the other “flavors” of nutrition degrees out there!
12:32 pm on July 16th, 2010
Wow, that is so exciting. I have been wrestling with the same decision for some time now. The only thing that has held me back is the fact that Nutrition is a science degree and I am horrible at both science and math! But I am so interested in health and nutrition. I have been independently researching it for about seven years now. Do you have any thoughts on this or advice? I just dont know if it is wise to pursue something that I am absolutely not proficient in but yet am so fastenated by. Bettering my health and expanding my knowledge in nutrition is my passsion but I dont know if I could excell in the format that you must learn about in a school setting. I am totally interested in your thoughts on this issue.
1:20 pm on July 16th, 2010
Hey Kevin and Ann Marie,
Congratulations!! What a great move!! Can’t wait to see how that ups the valuable information you provide us all
So you mentioned that you are doing a “clinical nutritionist” program, but what sort of degree is that? A B.A., M.A., R.D., N.D., or something else? You forgot to mention the name of the degree
Best Wishes,
Courtney

Good luck, good decision. Love your show.

Congrats

Went back (and completed) for an MBA a few years ago. Don’t ask me why but I did!
Next? Probably something in natural healing, I have unused training in massage therapy

Just started Nutrition Educator classes online with Bauman College. Super excited. Feels good, huh?
2:23 pm on July 16th, 2010
Yes, went back years ago for a graduate school program to become a teacher. But OMG, I can’t believe the synchronicity… I have been trying to decide between going back again to become either a raw chef or a nutrition counselor, clinical nutritionist, or dietitian. I can’t wait to check out the program you are doing. I was looking at actual schools like Bauman College and Living Light Institute but hadn’t made a decision yet and I think online learning could be a fun. Wow, thanks for the tip.
Mostly, I wish both of you great success and joy as you move forward on this path!

At 53 years of age I have gone back to school to learn more about horses. I started with a course on nutrition, imagine that! What we have done to ourselves we are now doing to our animals. And then we wonder why they now have all the same diseases in growing numbers that we have. Once I have my six classes done at Iyuptala, I’ll start taking classes on something else, probably herbs. As a kid I’d look myself in the mirror (blond haired, blue eyed white girl)& say, “You’re going to be a medicine man someday”. So healing is in the blood and at this stage of my life, I can live my own dreams. But I’m also finding that the more I learn, the more I desire to learn. Knowledge all by itself is a thing of value; once it ages into wisdom, it is priceless.
2:35 pm on July 16th, 2010
Yes, I went back to school 6 years ago and am finishing my last class and beginning my practicum for my ND degree from Clayton College of Natural Health. I have 3 kids and as they get older (16,14,12)studying has slowed (but not stopped) as I keep my eyes on them! Great choice for you to go back – you will love it and can study together like I do with my kids. Good luck!
3:01 pm on July 16th, 2010
I went back to school when I was 32 years old (I’m 50 now). I went to university and received a B.A degreed in Clinical Nutrition! I am a registered dietitian – but alas, most of my education was sponsored by the big drug companies and the huge food industries so I think it’s very bias. I’m actually learning more from you, Matt Monarch and David Wolfe. At least you are all about HEALTH and not DISEASE. I work in a hospital in the area of kidney disease and also general medicine (strokes, crohns disease, pancreatitis, etc). I think I’ve done more good giving my patients alternate advice such as eating more raw, taking herbal remedies, juicing etc rather than the “traditional” advice we dish out – EAT LESS FAT AND MORE FIBRE!
3:03 pm on July 16th, 2010
I am so excited for you…. I will finish school at the end of this month. The school I have chosen is the Global College of Natural Medicine located in Santa Cruz, California. I am taking the Nutritional Consultant Courses and absolutely love it. I love my school also. I was so afraid that I would end up at a school that told me it was good to eat chicken for my protein or something equally as gross…but this school has gone along with my line of thinking and I appreciate it.
I also like that I am an hour or less away and can attend some of the on campus classes and next Thursday, we are having a “raw pot luck”.
I wish you the best and absolutely adore the two of you!!! (the babies will be amazing)
3:04 pm on July 16th, 2010
Different school…from Canada, but I just started a distance ed course in Nutrition this summer. I too wish to become more credible to the world and I know there is a huge need out there. If I could help people with one thing, it would be diet and nutrition.
I am happy for you two (jealous for me) that can do learn and chat together about all you learn.
Have fun!
3:44 pm on July 16th, 2010
Dear Kevin and Annmarie,
CONGRATULATIONS!!!
I go back to school everyday when I watch your daily show. I am so excited about the new knowledge that you both will be sharing with us!
I will continue to support both of you by purchasing your books, products and EXCELLENT skin care products by Annmarie!
Again, CONGRATULATIONS!!!
;)
How exciting for such a wonderful couple as yourselves!!
4:32 pm on July 16th, 2010
Congradulations on your decision. I received my master herbalist diploma 2 years ago and I am chomping at the bit to go back to school and get my holistic health practitioner degree. I absolutely loved my school. It is located in Portland, Oregon- although I took my courses online. Its called American College of Healthcare Sciences. It is a top notch school.
As far a kids, wait as long as you need to for you will have them for the rest of your life. No rush. Enjoy what time you have together.
4:48 pm on July 16th, 2010
Congrats! I started my degree at a regular brick and mortar and finished it up online. I actually learned more during the online portions then in the regular class room.
Sounds great!
4:50 pm on July 16th, 2010
Congratulations to you both! Seems a natural next step, and so exciting! Can’t wait to hear what you can share with us what you have learned.
I very much want to be part of the holistic health world, haven’t decided yet what direction, but going back to school will have to wait until my kids are older- they need me too much now. I like to believe what some of your other commenters said- that it is never too late to start a new career path.
5:05 pm on July 16th, 2010
Good for you guys! I just started a program to be a nutritional consultant and then may continue to be a holistic practitioner. I have always studied and gone back to school again and again – it is so worth it. Never stop learning! There are a lot of programs to chose from it is overwhelming but all the online courses now make it more affordable and easy for anyone to do.
Way to go!
5:34 pm on July 16th, 2010
I am so happy for both of you ! If you feel it would better your future and your client base go for it ! ,because people like a degree at the end of a name, having said that the Majority of doctors who have MD at the end of their name on their white frock have only had an average of 4-6 hours of schooling in the field of nutrition , I have been told others say 10 -15 hours. Point is, the Highly respected MD’s (Medical Dummy) know nothing about nutrition because if they did they would not over prescribe Drugs. All they know is DRUGS, SURGERY, CHEMO, RADIATION. Kevin and AnnMarie with what you know already is the TRUTH that will save peoples lives NOW in my opinion you both have studied enough and know enough to make a significant impact in most peoples lives with OUT having a degree. If I may use an analogy. If a house or building is on Fire and elderly people need HELP to get out and I am able to help them and I do nothing,Instead I tell them I am not Qualified to help you because I am not a licensed fire man.Would that make it right knowing the inevitable out come death to the elderly ? NO. Instead decent people help others by whatever means necessary to save lives . DOING UNTO OTHERS AS YOU WOOULD WANT OTHERS TO DO—-UNTO -YOU. It is really quite simple. I guess what I am saying is a degree is a nice but NOT everything . Science and research is always changing their previous ideas all the time for new research ideas and discoveries. And they will Never ever know everything their is to know,No man knows everything. But as for both of you, you know the truth about health, nutrition and wellness and what it takes to over come a variety of humane problems and the variety of foods it takes to over come health challenges. Kevin you want to Know more about physiology and pathology and it’s inner dynamics on how things work in the body the (nuts and bolts) it is almost like you are playing chess with the body to win the body to maximum health I admire that quality trait in you . I sincerely hope the very best in your’s and Ann Marie’s efforts. I sincerely hope you both have lots of strong ,beautiful, healthy babies!!!—SOON

I’d love to go back to school. Actually I’d love to do the Health Educator coarse at Hippocrates Inst. in West Palm Bch., FL. I’m a nurse and really want to help people and not watch them get sicker in the traditional ways. My only hold up is cost. In this economy I simply can’t do it. Can’t get a loan do to the ratio’s they go by. Maybe someday I hope!!!
6:24 pm on July 16th, 2010
Cool, lots of comments,
Congrats , great decision, i’ve been thinking of nutrition therapy program my self.. lots of questions from folks, Do you guys read all of these comments?? or ever answer them??
blessings!!
8:22 pm on July 16th, 2010
Coolio! I am very proud of you both. I know what you mean being a self started. Wow when I found out about raw food I could not get my head out of the books or off the net watching food prep and listening to calls and programs/lectures on raw food & watching you two. Raw Spirit Fest had great break out sessions where I also learned a great deal & by attending the festival, I obtained 26 Continuing Medical Education Credits.
I am pretty much in some type of school all the time as an RN. Herbalism, naturopathy, Chinese traditional medicine is all very fascinating to me so I continue to study it as well as raw food prep. I also go to raw food prep classes and just recently, I obtained my certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support.
I have several friends who have obtained a raw food lifestyle certification in a week and it has taken me some time to grasp the vast amount of knowledge raw food offers up for the taking from the many well-published authors I have studied.
Wow a clinical nutrition degree will round your knowledge out. May you help to uplift the program by sharing your knowledge of raw food. Much research needs to continue in this area. We need clinical nutritionists who actually know something about raw food and the benefits of a plant based diet.
I have yet to meet a clinical nutritionist who knows anything about raw food in the hospital setting in which I am employed. I think the two of you will be fantastic clinical nutritionist.
I would love to go back to school to study functional medicine and naturopathy. I am thinking about taking a formal class on herbalism.
I am very happy for you two!
Love, Light & Peace,
Cheryl CC

K&A, Congrats on your decision. I too have been thinking of getting a CCN degree. The school I am looking at is NHI in CA because that is the one Natalia Rose went to. I was wondering if you had looked at the NHI program also. Thanks in advance.
9:40 pm on July 16th, 2010
Wouldn’t it be better you guys go back to school not to study, but to teach! With due respect to the School, I am sure you have better “in vivo” experience than an average teacher. We take you for what you are and what you do or say, not for the degrees or titles behind your names. Having said that, there is always something to be gained with learning. Yes, the mental discipline if anything. Just make sure you’d not pick up the trade idiosyncrasies nor look at the universe of health with colored glasses.
9:40 pm on July 16th, 2010
Wonderful. Can’t wait for you to pass on your new info to your audience. Thanks for all you’ve taught us so far. I really have learned alot. Your mission is absolutely admirable. “together we can change the world, one show at a time”. You both have such nice personalities, it would be good if you could be of influence to school children. There is already a movement to change the school lunch programs. Maybe you could offer your services for the younger generation too.
I wish some tv producer would see your show and turn it into a kid’s saturday morning cartoon that gives kids good healthy eating ideas. They could then ask their moms to cook them a good meal or ask for certain things in their lunch. You could provide the recipes and they could help in the kitchen preparing it.
Anyway, best wishes on your new adventure.
Laura.

Yes! Congrats! I went back to school to study Acupuncture/Chinese Medicine 10 years ago. There I met my partner…now we are in practice together…and we have a baby on the way…you can do it all ; ) Peace.
10:14 pm on July 16th, 2010
Congratulations on your decision to further your education to support your mission. My wife has told me for years that I should get an advanced degree in nutrition. Y’all inspire me. Now I just might do it.

I have a MA in Counseling.
Was considering cosmetology school so I could be licensed to do facials but I was afraid of the chemicals they might make me practice with.
So now I’m looking into massage school.
I have low back issues, so not sure I can physically do it. Want to be healthy and strong…that is why I watch your show.
11:39 pm on July 16th, 2010
You two are an inspiration!
I went back to school (for the second time) a year and a half ago – want to get my RN degree and work in the alternative medical field. I got interrupted after the second semester – caregiving responsibilites. Hopefully, I’ll have the opportunity to finish before it’s time to retire. :0)
6:53 am on July 17th, 2010
I went back to school. I enrolled in Clayton College of Natural Health a little over a year ago in both the bachelor’s and master’s degrees. This past week, they closed unexpectedly. They were in business for 30 years. I first found out about it on Facebook, then on their website. No personal email or formal letter. I see commenter # 41- Kimberly- seems unaware that they closed their doors. It is unprofessional how they handled it. I am out thousands of dollars for the classes i paid for in advance which i never got to take. So for me to go to another school is impossible since Clayton took my all my education money.

Great News! Good luck to you both and I look forward to hearing all about your studies. I went back to school last year but did not find exactly the courses that interest me so….
I enrolled in the Integrative Nutrition course which starts for me in two weeks. I am incredibly excited and have started reading and listening to the course matter. I will be a certified health coach/counselor. Our hardest task ahead is to find time to fit it into our schedules so good luck to us all!

Hi guys,
Congratulations! Yes I did one year ago. I am working my way toward an Environmental Studies degree with a distant learning university here in London, uk and I feel alive, the excitement and butterflies before and after the exams and the light on me when I make the connections in my head about the things I love and thinking one day I will help others and the planet with my knowledge IT IS JUST AMAZING!
My boy is 2 and half years old, so I am juggling the things a bit but hey I am only 23 plenty time to rest later or not!
Again congratulations and rock and roll!!!

Yes, at the age of 45, I graduated from Massage School. The same year my last child graduated from high school and my first grandchild was born. Big year. That was 5 years ago and we have all grown by leaps and bounds in those 5 years. I’ve got a great career which I dearly love.

Good for you both…and how lovely to have built in study partners!
I am in my 4th quarter (of 5) to become a paralegal! WOW..the experience, for me, helped get my left brain working again…plus my supplements.
The biggest factor is having to say “No” to lots of distractions and invitations and life. I make the choice to go to class, write the paper, read the assignments and honor my commitment to myself. I can see how my choice strengthens me. And, it is helpful to have cheerleaders along the way ‘cuz sometimes there are “days”.

I also am planning to go back to school. How did you choose where to go? I am looking at Dr. Gabriel Cousens program through the Culture of Life institute. Just wondering if you are familiar with it and what your thoughts are. Do you know of any other masters programs that offer “raw vegan food” training? They are hard to find/compare. Thanks again and congrats!

In 2006 (at age 39)i went back and studied to become a personal trainer. i have been ill with CFS fro 17 years so this was a very big deal for me. I learnt that i love learning and although i don’t do any formal study i spend alot of time on the internet, watching, listening, reading etc people like you and things that you offer to further my ‘education’. I am really happy and proud of you both as that is also a subject i would like to study. It will be interesting to see if any of your current opinions or thoughts change after you have completed your degree. Great that you are doing it together. The support, help and encouragement you can offer each other, I’m sure, will be so comforting. Congrats and best wishes

Hi
Thanks for your great show. I started Law school at 40 years old, and had a baby at 42. I have never looked back, and with the nutritional advice I get from your show, I’m getting way more out of life than ever before. Thankyou and best regards from Liane

Hello…and best wishes to both of you. I started my nursing degree in the early 90′s, at the age of 30. I left school to persue a career path that I had wanted when I was 17 which was to open a vintage, recycled, and environmentally sound clothing store that also sold vintage, recycled, and environmentally sound household items. Being self-employed and selling the items I did is and was a great experience. Although when I was 43 I thought…Hmm…50 isn’t that far away and a steady income with (medical) benefits as I get older would be nice. So I returned to school to finish my nursing degree and I now have one more year to complete to be an RN. When that is done, besides continuing my education to become a surgical nurse, I would also like to study nutrition and dietetics. I don’t see my education ever stopping. Diana

A wonderful adventure for both of you and how awsome that you get to do it together!!!
About those letters after the name so many people look for when deciding on a health care professional. They do mean a lot to some but for me I have only experienced more problems by them and I perfer to avoid them.
I am so excited that you are getting a degree with a good head to decide what is good and not so good!
Looking forward to some wonderful shows and wish you the best.

I did go back to school… twice! After graduating with a BA in Communication Studies and bouncing around a few entry level positions for various companies for a few years, I went to culinary school to become a chef. Then, after burning out in that field after 4 years I went to Nutrition school to become a Holistic Nutritionist.
I love school. I applaud your decision, guys. This will change your life. Good luck!

Congrats!!! I am a massage therapist and certified personal trainer who just went back to school to become clinical nutritionist. I think it is a great next step and am so excited. I am doing a distance learning program which is great but having some difficulty staying focused without deadlines =) Good luck to both of you!!!

Hey Kevin and Annmarie, Congratulations! It’s really interesting because I’m also seriously considering going back to school (I have a degree in Sport Science and have done the schooling for a Masters in Neuro-muscular physiology)and after 12 years of organizing major sporting events I want to be able to help people towards wellness. Since most of what I read is about nutrition and raw foods, I am considering certifications in Integrative Nutrition, Holistic Nutrition, Live food nutrition etc.
I also know a few others wanting to do this. I think there is a global movement towards this shift in understanding about health.
Thanks for sharing with us.
All the best and happy studying
Anne

Congratulations! This is actually your first post that motivated me enough to comment on, though the jicama fries came close. The thought of going back to school excites me
I actually recently returned as well.
Have fun and study hard!

Kevin,
I hope you know that you will be paying for a school that has no accreditation with the US Department of Education and getting a ‘degree’ which has no regulating body. I suggest just skipping paying the money, calling yourself a Clinical Nutritionists anyway(since anyone can do it, there is no one to stop you) and picking up a few good books and just reading them on your own. Otherwise pay for some letters that mean something, there are a few online Masters programs in nutrition and an RD program. Please don’t become a quack. Get a real degree.

I am so chuffed for you two … you won’t regret it. Life is a learning school at every moment, the only thing preventing you in any [ad]venture is a “sense” of limitation. I went back to school – Multi-media and Digital Design [10 software programs] in 2000 and did a 2-yr Diploma in 1 year. I was 52 and the rest of the class was aged between 18 and 28. What an amazing experience with the students as well as the program.
Never stop learning. Don’t let your present [em]bodiment inhibit you.

This is great. I’m so happy for you guys!
I know you’ll do great. I agree it makes sense to keep learning, especially in this field of health.
I went back to school last year through a distance learning program also. I just finished my training through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in New York. They teach all the dietary theories and have wonderful teachers from every spectrum of the nutrition world. Ranging from David Wolfe to Dr Oz and everyone in between. They also include business training as a part of the curriculum.
I wish you and Annemarie the best and look forward to hearing and learning more from the two of you on this journey.
Blessings!

I am currently in school at Institute For Integrative Nutrition. Have you heard of this school? It is based in NY and can also be done online.

I have to wonder if the genuine gratitude they have for the food they eat, as well as a life spent in gratitude, honoring pachamama as I’m sure they do in ceremony (and again, being grateful for having food for their families) contributes to overall health. I think of this example often…a person who is raw vegan but “breaks down” and has some eggs-even very healthy omega 3, cage free eggs-has this guilt they’ve attached to the eating of the eggs and has ingested it with them…then you have this other person who eats tons of low quality food regularly and “treats” himself/herself to these “healthy” eggs instead and feels so good about the choice, like he’s doing something extremely beneficial…how are both those egg meals going to affect the people eating them?

So inspiring! I have also deeply considered completing an online program for two reasons. First and most important is my own continuing education. But also so I can add some authoritative sounding letters after my name. I run a small herb store and do informal consulting with my clients. They often ask where I went to school and what my certification is. I tell them I have been studying and using herbs etc. for 18 years now, and that makes most of them happy. But some certificates would be nice. So glad you have told us about this school which I did not know about. I would seriously consider their programs based on your recommendation. Good luck!

Thanks for sharing this information about yourselves and the school. I have been thinking seriously about becoming a certified nutritionist, because like you, have been doing my own study and research for 3 decades, but most people just think I’m a fanatic. I have been experiencing the benefits of seeing naturopaths, ayurvedics, homeopaths and dieticians for half my life, but feel medical school would just be too time-consuming, financially prohibitive, and in conflict with my experience. I’m 41 and have a young son. I am even more dedicated to this path now that my husband is battling Lymphoma. Interesting how part of his conventional prescription is to not eat ANY raw food at all for the duration of his treatment because of the bacteria it may contain and neutropenia. I have felt terrible about this, but what can I do: I’m not a doctor. I’m going to check out this school. Thanks again.

To follow up… This school, while it sounds really good and more aligned with my interests, is not accredited by the American Association of Dietetics and therefor does not qualify me for my state’s board exam. I could not legally practice as a nutritionist with the certification the school recommends. Just something to consider if you want to be a licensed nutritionist. Check with your state’s Board of Nutrition and Dietetics.

THATS AWSOME :]
im starting my nutrition classes to be a nutritionist this fall at UCCS in colorado.
Im only 21 but i just finished my associate of science.
it sounds the program you guys are doing is going to have way better info.
im kinda worried UCCS might give me less than accurate info about how important food is, being a pretty mainstream institution and all.
we should talk about what we learn in our homework from time to time this semester or something :]

That’s great news!
You will be busy. Can you tell us the most exciting thing you learn each day in your studies?!?! That would make a great 10-minute self-interview.

Hi Kevin & Ann Marie,
Congratulations! Going back to school together is great, you can motivate each other; as you always do. When I completed my Masters in Public Administration & Human Resources mgmt., I said that’s it… two years later, I’m going back to work on my Ph.D. My goal is to teach at a university.

I am a long time vegan chef who is personally high raw. I looked into many Registered Dietician programs a couple of years ago and knew I could not support the dietary “learning” (meat, dairy and drugs)as I would need to do to get the degree. I could not envision myself writing papers and answering exams with nutritional information I knew in my heart was wrong just to get the Registered Dietician designation after my name. Kudos to you both. I will be watching to see what this program does for you. Did not know about Clayton College going under after all those years–I had considered them.

I also will be going back to school. I am 47 and I am interested in going back for an MD. Something I desired back in high school but chose the path of business and completed an MBA. Instead of furthering in a doctorate, I decided to pursue my high school dream of an MD specializing in birth defects in utero. It will be a long journey, but I am not the type to say I will retire at the age of 65. I will be apart of the centennials who still work at the age of 100. I was glad to see others in their 40′s going back too. As I start to second phase of my life, I look forward to starting my new direction. And having my six year old daughter observe me along the way.

Hi Kevin and Annmarie!
I was just wondering if you guys had ever considered adopting a child?
BTW I met you in Sarasota earlier this year and loved your presentation… Hope you make back here again someday.
Perhaps you will start doing raw retreats and I can go to one.
Peace,
Mark Rieke
