I can’t get enough info on health, it’s just so darn interesting. You just have to be careful of your sources. Thanks to you guys for adding to my education. Kevin, your curly “umbrella” is just adorable!

Not sure. Definitely feel overwhelmed by information at times and need to take a break to absorb and listen to my own body and what it is trying to tell me. Thanks for the great information. And BYW, I am on my 2nd batch of chica morada. It is fantastic!

    Welcome Back to CT!!
But I think you missed Tuesday at 106 degrees!

I actually do think that we should to be concerned, on the awareness level, about getting to the next level, or at least checking it out. However, we don’t need to be overly-concerned, or have to be STRESSED to get to the next level. Because, if there is a next level, don’t you want to be there?? I do! Always.

It’s just that we are doing fine, and even better than we think, sometimes. –Ain’t that nice.

I enjoy always learning something new about health and then experimenting! I agree with you Kevin in that running a test then implementing protocal and running a test again works best for me!
    Keep up the great work!

Possibly he is confusing Betel Nut with coca. I’ve seen many documentaries where the indiginous peoples chewed Betel Nuts and had miserable teeth. Though I don’t know that that is the cause of their tooth decay. Betel is an astringent so don’t see a true connection. I was seeing these documentaries when I was a child – 60 years ago, so I truly doubt that the tooth problems were related to sugar and white flour in the populations shown in the documentaries.

SOmetimes I think I am overeducated especially when I get stressed when I see a friend or family member doing something that is detrimental to their health. Then I have to decide how to approach them or if I should because will it cause stress which may be worse then the food itself. Its best to offer alternatives then to be negative and say you should not eat this or that. But there is so much to learn and so many things are changing
that there is always something new.

Hmm, am I over educated about health? The more info I get the better my perspective. I have been a Naturopath for twenty years. I live and breathe and teach health. I have thousands of hours of training and do I think I am over educated? Not really. There is always more to know. Being flexible and not rigid about how to gain and maintain health is the key. Keep things balanced and in perspective. Enjoy and love life. :-)

I only think I’m over educated when I stress about food. Otherwise, it is good to study!
Just try to go with the flow so the mind is healthy. (My friends and family might think I’m over educated…either that or they think I’m crazy).

I personally don’t think it’s a case of over education as much as info overload. The indigenous cultures definetly have a more pure connection to spirit, but I still think they experience ” vibrational glitches.” Maybe the predominate culture is kind of like the 100th monkey syndrome,in that the popular culture is influencing the cognitive ability of all the indigenous cultures. I feel that maybe our culture is experiencing a connection defcit so we compensate by overloading information. Anyway ramble overload it will all work out beautifully.

In your own interview, Kevin, with Doug Graham, he talks about the importance of paying attention first to carbs, fats, and proteins. If we get our foods from whole, fresh, ripe, organic, raw fruits and veggies with a proper balance of carbs, fats, proteins (80-10-10), we won’t need to pay attention to the micro nutrients. What many do is worry about the micro nutrients, this vitamin or that mineral or whatever, and ignore the big 3, and then we get really skewed.

This is probably one of the best questions that you have asked so far as I feel that this is one of the biggest problems America faces today.

Too much education, but no wisdom.

Wisdom comes with age and experience, not by blindly following a bogus study or a bogus health trend.

Great info Kevin and AnnMarie.I think science will never unlock all the Knowledge and unseen forces that exist in Gods creation and of all whole plant foods. If we Ponder for a moment God is a God who favors variety in HIS Creation like all the variety of species of animals ,plants, insects, rocks, Stars, solar systems, to name just a few, and not even to mention all the organization of LIFE and all the intricacies , and lakes and ocean life and all the tiniest of sea creatures and the planet earth which is the only planet in the universe that can sustain humane life and animals with just the right nitrogen ,oxogen ,ozone, etc. etc. And the miracle of LIFE , and out of the billions of people, even twins their is no one that is identical which shows God likes variety and is diverse in HIS Creation. Man will never scratch the surface of all their is to know about Gods planet , I believe God only allows man to learn so much about mans discoveries about this world so as man can attest to the infinity and complexity of this world that it ONLY TOOK A GOD TO CREAT THIS WORLD so as man will have no other explanation but to refer to — Genesis1:1. My experience Atheist who live their whole life rejecting Jesus Christ heed serious reconsideration when they are on their death bed . And that is a very very very very sad.

I believe the more information the better, but I also think our society tends to compartmentalize information… we get bogged down with the details, as if each micronutrient or ingredient is consumed in a vaccuum. Since, in reality we are whole beings, living ion whole ecosystems, it should be about whole health. You made a great point about the homeopathy.

  16. John
    12:49 am on July 10th, 2010

That’s a great question and I think you’re right but that’s not entirely the point. You would never know you were sick unless you were well at one point or at best guess by the actions and moods of others.
If we knew exactly what made us, as each individual, tick and what food would enable us to do what. For example; sugar for energy to survive or mineral rich complex carbohydrates for energy and a sense of well-being then we could just pick our poison and that would be it.
However, we’re given countless products and so much information and unfortunately it’s not all true. We have all become mad scientists using our peers and our bodies as labratories to discover our own truth.
The peoples of peru came to their truth through generations of trial and error and using what was available to them.
Oh how I wish media only carried the truth so we could stop wasting our time and health and evolve.

I believe that as individuals, we can absorb ONLY so much as we are able to handle.
I was on MY deathbed 3 1/2 years ago and I have learned so much more in those years than in the first 48 years of my existence.
We are all on different levels of our life’s journey and what is RIGHT for me, may not be right for the next person.
In this education of health and healing, I’ve learned that I cannot teach another by my words so much as by my examples. I do not tell others what is right or wrong, but what works for me.
I now live each day as if it is a gift, and Glory in the day!
    Blessings!

Ah, teeth and coca. I like your answer, Kevin, re westernization SADdening being responsible. It’s interesting that cocaine, crystal meth & sugar all have a rotten influence on teeth. There’s a branch of Traditional Chinese Medicine in which says that the outwardly apparent condition of the teeth reflects the inward condition of the bones. Same is said of the hair & blood, nails & tendons. I know there’s complications in translating this, but the point is they didn’t have Xrays, MRI’s or CAT scans back then, and thru experience realized sickness can be diagnosed from the surface, at least thru palpating the pulse or showing the tongue. …Oh yeah, it seems anything that jacks you up, from sugar to crystal meth, undercuts your base, foundation of your health. To the Chinese “the bones” are emblematic for the foun dation of health. Even when they speak of an organ they’re meaning the function of the organ, and relatively to the whole system. In One River its author Wade Davis says coca is one of nature’s most nutritious foods. I believe this is so that there’s enough nutrition to process & support the uplift & still feel nourished after being let down, rather than a crash from feeling depleted. Nature designs foods well, perfectly you could say.

As for education (educing), inculcation (the norm, way more common), it’s far easier to grasp & “understand” concepts than it is to really stand under them. So is the answser to obvious shortfall more book (or video) learning?

I think a good topic to cover here for this crowd would be autointoxication. Well particularly for us older folks with more of a SAD toxic burden to overcome. We will!

Not sure if it is the heat of the sun or the sun’s rays through pollution but it definitely is uncomfortable to be out in it as you noticed when you returned to CT.

To me, it is not that we are over educated but that we think too much, we follow our minds and don’t listen to our inner wisdom or intuition. That is where the real answers are, not in the mind.

Also when people are hungry they eat whatever food they can get and are grateful to have it. We obsess about what we eat only because we have so much abundance and choice.

May all beings have pure food and clean water.

    Peace, Love and Harmony,
    OM

I am definately overeducated about health. When I learned about raw food eating, it was by people with extreme views. I was a convert and found eating right fun and exciting. After a time, I noticed conflicting information. I’m now living in a different city and my roommate has never been sick and his labs are great and he looks healthy and 10 years younger than his age of 60. The only thing he eats are potato chips and frozen dinners. He doesn’t eat fruit or veggies. That goes against everything I’ve learned about eating healthy. The only thing I can attribute his health to is his running, weight lifting, and never never over-eating. My knowledge and dedication to my health is all confused these days. I think if I had spent more time exercising and less time “learning” about health, I would be better off by now.

    Hi Kevin!
Apparently it was my question that sparked the discussion about over-education! I already followed up with you in an inner circle message, but thought I would post this here, too, in case anyone else had any thoughts on it. I certainly know what you mean by over-education, but this is an issue of wanting to balance the health of my body AND the health of my soul. Here is my dilemma…I LOVE the taste of vegetables, fruit, grains, and legumes. I feel like eating these things is not only pleasurable but also sustainable and kind. Unfortunately, eating vegetables, fruit, grains, and legumes leaves me unbalanced–feeling and looking rather lousy. I start to age extremely rapidly. My skin becomes red and inflamed, my joints ache, and I feel extremely depleted. At first, I wrote these off as detox symptoms. In time, I felt that this was not the result of my body expelling toxins. It was as if my body was breaking down–a process of degeneration. I’ve experimented with various combinations of these foods, never feeling quite right. The fact is, my body feels and looks great when I eat mostly meat, fats, and a very small amount of vegetables. I just don’t feel good about taking the life of another sentient being to fuel my body. I don’t even enjoy the taste of meat very much. I don’t want to do it if I don’t have to. Therefore, I’ve spent a lot of time trying to figure out if it’s possible to give my body what it needs to thrive without having to sacrifice or exploit the life of an animal. I’ve experimented with protein powders, high-purine vegetarian foods, essentially everything I can think of that might give my body whatever meat has that makes me feel balanced. Nothing works. One of the things I’ve recently taken a look at is my saliva and urine pH. I’m always extremely alkaline. So, that’s where I’m at. That’s why I asked the question. I’m not sure that balancing my pH holds the answer, but it’s what I’m trying right now. I was just wondering if you had any thoughts on what I might try.

just when you start to think you know everything; you soon discover you don’t know as much as you thought you did! And if I had to pick something to be OVER (as opposed to overweight, overwhelmed, over….etc.),I would choose overeducated in health….because it is the gateway to living a wonderful, abundant, loving life! thanks Kevin and Annemarie for helping us gain in our knowledge!

INTERESTING ABOUT SEAWEED CONTAINING ARSENIC; APPLE SEEDS HAVE A SMALL AMOUNT OF IT BUT WE DON’T CONSUME THE SEEDS. PAPAYA SEEDS WERE USED AS BIRTH CONTROL BY NATIVES. APRICOT SEEDS HAVE LATRAIL FOR CANCER SPELLING? WHAT IS YOUR KNOWLEDGE OF IODINE AND THE THRYOID? WE SHOULDN’T FEEL OVER EDUCATED; KNOWLEDGE ON THE RIGHT PATH IS A BLESSING!

I think the only time that “over-education” would be a problem is if it is really an over-listening or over-absorbing or over-living of “information” that is not relevant to our particular individual situations. That is the education that is not yet educated enough to realize you don’t have to follow all the “experts”. The education of being aware & connected to one’s own body/mind/health/etc. (through various types of testing, prayer, intuition, or whatever else works for you) is in my mind a step beyond the “over-education” that is easy to experience when inundated with “information” but lacking a way to know what to do with it all.

Thank you for responding on my comment about teeth health! That was pretty much my thoughts as well, but it’s good to hear it from someone who has a little better insight into it.

Am I over educated about health? I probably am. But to be honest, I don’t practice half of what I know.
We get so easily hung up on the details that we often miss the big picture. I strive towards health, but I don’t get all that stressed over every little aspect of it.
I once was at a point where health was all I thought about. But that wasn’t very healthy at all. I mean, when and if we reach the point of perfection, then what? There isn’t some magical pot of gold at the end of that rainbow. There’s probably just yet another rainbow. :)

Personally, I’m a firm believer in listening to your own body. Your body will tell you if something you’ve eaten isn’t right for you whether that’s meat, dairy, veg, fruit – whatever!

After reading and learning about metabolic typing, I’m definitely a firm believer that one diet does not suit all! Go with your gut feeling as to what you should eat. Don’t eat CRAP but just eat sensibly and eat whole unprocessed locally grown foods. That’s the most practical solution to being “overeducated” about health and the “right” diet.

I’m really looking forward to trying the Ceylon cinnamon Kevin. I can’t wait to get it!

I tried the tooth soap and the brightener that you use but I am having problems with it. At least I think it might be the problem. I developed Ulcers in my mouth and on my gums. I only used two drops of the tooth soap and once a week a little of the tooth brightner. the skin felt funny and then ulcers appeared. I quit using it and the skin in my mouth feels good again and the ulcers are going away.

To Linda, Try brushing your teeth with coconut oil after every meal. It’s a great anti bacterial and anti fungal and is great at healing gums and cleaning teeth. I suggested this to one of my clients and she had AMAZING results, her gums never felt better. If you like, you can add a little baking soda to your toothbrush along with the coconut oil.

Guilty…pretty sure it was my question…about the over-alkaline. I get what you are saying but there are some facts, don’t you think? Your blood pH has to be in a certain range or you will die. Raw food is mainly alkaline. Being to alkaline is just as bad as being too acid. If you don’t agree, please inform…but if you do, I am still wondering about this??? Thanks as always for all your great info.

Over educated? I’m sure the pharmaceutical mafia would agree with that. Just let it be, you have more important things to worry about, we’ll take care of you. I am still trying to recover from all that crap and still seeking the truth. Knowledge is power

  35. Andréa
    7:59 am on July 13th, 2010

It depends on how you look at it! On one hand my clients love that I have this much knowledge and if I don’t know a thing just off the top of my head then I am able to go find the answers in short order for them.

However, my family finds it a bit difficult at times. My parents constantly complain about their weight and they have a drawer of pharmaceuticals for all their health problems. So I find myself wanting to help them but as it turns out they are happy to be sick, fat and complain.

My husband has said it best…. I know you know the answer but could you just let me find the answer out for myself sometimes.

  36. Melissa
    11:51 am on July 13th, 2010

I feel I need to learn all sides of the story about health and then make the decision about what is best for me and my body. So, in that way I feel I have a ton of knowledge and only some of which I will apply for myself. Yet,something that I learned that didn’t work for me may work for someone else, so that knowledge is still very important.
I also feel that maybe those who are just listening to the media and reading magazines are so messed up in the education department because one week they will tell you something is good for you and the next they tell you to stay away from it.

    Hi Kevin and Annmarie,
That is such a funny question. I am often saying to friends, “You know what, I know too much!” I could and have really driven myself crazy at times. I have to put things in perspective sometimes.I don’t always have what I’d like around the house for food. I try to keep fresh veggies and fruit in here, but it seems to go so quickly. I can’t go to the market whenever I’d like homeschooling two children, and being on my own. We have a small garden, so I’m doing my best, although, I know it could be much better.

  39. Bliss
    11:06 pm on July 14th, 2010

Sometimes I feel that too much “learning” keeps me in my head and not in my body, or not listening to my body. It has to be balanced for me…something I’m constantly seeking.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge, thoughts, opinions, and for making this interactive. Happy day!

  41. Didiydi
    10:27 am on July 18th, 2010

When I just started learning about health, nutrition etc it was a lot easier and it felt like I knew a lot. Now, 3 years down the road the more I learn the less I am “sure” about things I “know”.
I used to give advices. Now I try to avoid subject like plague and answer if I see someone is genuinely interested. I’ve learned I still didn’t figure out my body properly, and there is no way I could guide someone else. If I share info, I make it a point to repeat over and over that it’s about them listening to their body and not believing anything I say- google it all and do your own research.
Now what ever I learn mentally I check with my gut feeling if it agrees with my body or not. I also often test food and sups with muscle testing. I think knowledge is useful to help us connect with our intuition, and we shouldn’t make decisions based on intellect only.
