We recently were turned on to the five tibetan rites again by Helen, who was a guest at Hacienda del Sol…
She demonstrated them one morning and since then we’ve been doing the 5 tibetan rites just about every morning.
These exercises are great for your flexibility, your lower back, digestion, and fitness.
Plus, they take – in total – about 5 minutes to do. (I know you have 5 minutes to do the five tibetan rites…)
Take a look…

Great show!!! I have been doing the 6 Tibetan Rites for around 20 years. They transformed my body and gave me a tremendous amount of energy and people said I looked 15 and more years younger. I do the 6th rite but in order to do that one – one must remain celebate so that the sexual energy can be drawn upwards into the control of God and used for magnificent ideas and manifestions unbelievable. Wasting the sex energy for self gratfication is one of the greatest waste of the liquid Light in our bodies and causes the body to age. Doing all six one can become a powerful tool for God. Have a Blessed Day

I absolutely worked out. Ran, did a Tabata workout and, (sorry Sheryl) had some amazingly beautiful sex! That counts as a workout too. No God, no guilt.

Add. comment: When I first started doing the Six Rites for around a month I was so nausiated I would have to lie down. But in one month a huge transformation took place in my body and I just glowed. Everybody started noticing and ask what I was doing. I was just a vegetarian when I first started doing these and they raised the vibratory action of my body tremendously. Also you need to point out when doing them you must breath in a out very deeply – the breathing is the key.

I did a fun and energizing, 1 hour bootcamp workout in the Boston Public Garden this morning! Every session is different; today was a kickboxing work out. Loved it.

Walked the dogs and will do so again… and perhaps I will partake of a Jazzercise class. Though I’m hoping to transition more into yogic/skill exercises than bouncy aerobic ones soon…. The bouncy aerobic ones don’t seem to be fitting my new life as well.

Sadly, I only wish I’d had some amazingly beautiful sex this morning. (sigh) Though I believe God can be part of that, too!

These exercises look great! (Much harder than they look I’m sure). I will certainly give them a try.
Today I went for a 4 mile run. Unusually hot weather here in Scotland just now!
Keep up the good work guys!
All the best,

I plan on doing Bikram Yoga after work tonight. I love it and I also love doing the 5 Tibetans each morning for the last 10 or so years. I would not want to give up sex for the 6th.

looking forward to 1-hour hooping class this evening! Great way to end the work week.

I have been doing the 5 rites for about 2.5 years now. I do them every morning. After one month of doing these exercises magical things began to happen. They are a great way to start the day.
Interesting discussion about the sexual energy. One thought on this is that the sexual energy is only lost through ejaculation. Therefore the act of sex can actually build this energy so long as there is no ejaculation.
It’s still early and I plan to go for a run in the woods and do yoga tonight as well. The 5 rites are my daily exercise. After that I do whatever feels right at the time (walk, run, hike, yoga, tai chi…its all good!)

I have been doing the 5 rights for 15 years & the sixth for 5 years, I have just this year taken on a 90 minute Ashtanga yoga workout which is intense & I have tacked that onto the 6 rites every morning. A full 100 mins workout 6 days a week, my body has amazing muscle tone & I feel great aswell, I have a fitter body than 90% of guys in their 20’s & I’m 46 this year! Great show you guys, been forwarding it to all myfriends in the UK.

When the 6th Rite is used wrongly only disinigration of the body can come out of it.
God knows the intent of the person and to use the sex energy for anything except to bring a child into this world will destroy the body – it effects the senses – hearing, sight etc. This is even taught in the book – The fountain of Youth. It is the animal conciousness that creates impure sex desire. A womans body is not a play but the Temple of God. As the body and mind are purified the desire for impure sex activity will dissapear. Using the sex activity wrongly will create female problems and in some cases infertility. This truth is written in the Ascended Masters Instruction. They say the last 2 enemies of the sinister force to overcome is impure sex activity and death.

AnneMarie being louder is a good thing. Sometimes the volume is too low on your outside videos. Thank you
Exercise – I’m just not getting enough of it.
I’m really good for a while and then I get a disruption in my schedule (homeschooling my 5 kids and keeping up with their activities, house guests, life) and start missing a good sweat. I keep a certain level. I can walk for miles or run 3 miles at any time but keeping a consistent habit would be more ideal.

Cycling, cycling, cycling on a properly sized bike is great for circulation, oxygenation, and will get the circulation to the top of the head effecting hair growth, eliminating a lot of premature balding.
Sheryl is correct about Ascended Master Instruction being adamant about saving sexual energy/fluids to create high minded creativity and sustained youthfulness. This point is so important that out of 9 fundamental lessons, one is devoted exclusively to explaining proper use of sex function/energies; penalties accrued to one’s body/mind thru misuse. Animal hormones in meat instigate alot of misdirected, unnecessary impure sex activity/fluid loss, thus dulling senses & degenerating body.

I incorporate the Five Tibetan Rites in my daily workout routine. Awesome! I have been doing the Rites since 1997. I have been on raw foods for 6 years – so great combination . . . Rites and Raw!
I am 73 and contribute some of my “youthful looks” to the Rites and Raw.

So glad to hear your input on the 5 Tibet Rites. I’ve been doing them for about a month now and found a couple different version on YouTube to get me going. I do really enjoy doing them as they are quick and meditative. I feel an increase in strength as well. On the spinning, I learned to look to your right middle finger and turn to the right…seems I should turn to the left every now and then to even things out. Who knows! So this morning I’m visiting in Encinitas, CA and I did my 5 Tibet Rites at Moonlight Beach and then took a long walk on the beach. I started my walk with my shoes on, but remembered it was good to connect with the earth. Ahhh! the sand and water under my feat was wonderful.
Thank you Anne Marie and Kevin for your wonderful video.
Namaste!

I have a very physical job so I am lifting anywhere from 10-50 lb boxes of produce, loading them on a wheelie, taking them out to the store and unloading them and putting out the food. I probably pick up at least 7000 lbs of produce every day. When I’m not doing that I’m stocking coolers, more lifting but less weight, lot’s of arm movement. When I’m not doing that I’m running a cash register, moving produce on and off the scale, and into boxes or bags. I do this eight hours a day with one thiry minute break for lunch.
On my days off I walk the dogs for an hour and work in the garden a bit. I’m getting ready to change jobs, going back to work in a barn, lot’s of shit shoveling, moving horses around and tossing hay. I’m in pretty good shape for 53 trips around the sun. The kids I work with tire faster then I do. Makes me feel good.

unfortunate difficult decision; Is it worth the initial stress to be relaxed later??? Don’t know what I’m talking about then you have not been married or with the same person for that long……..Yea I know why I am I still with her

I’ve been doing the 5 and 6 tibetans for years now. For starters – beginning with Peter Kelders descriptions years back, being both really curious about the 6th tibetan exercise, and thinking really why not performing it without being celibate, aswell as being somewhat worried about doing it without being celibate…
- All of this piqued by a background of working with sound and breath and also specific tibetan healing through the voice and breath for so many years now.
And even though I was worried (because of the whole authority issue, I guess), it just didn’t make sense, not to do the 6th tibetan, because of the celibacy-issue..something just didn’t ring quite right for me. – So what I discovered for me – in doing them anyways, was that it is all about the the breath, in perfect sync with the physical movement.
And then I came across “The 5 Tibetans” written by Christopher S. Kilham. He put a whole new perspective on the rites, that totally synced with my personal experiences.
So my great recommandation is to read both Peter Kelders original “Ancient secret of the fountain of youth” aswell aswell as Christopher S. Kilham’s book.
My personal experiences througout the years are that that the 6th tibetan will, – if you are sexually active – only will increase and highten the level of intensity in your sexual experience. And if you are not sexually active, the exercise will greatly help you transform your sexual energy into a different form of spiritually usable energy.
So in the end, weather you are sexually active or not, you will benefit greatly from performing the 6th tibetan.
- Just remember the breathing and only do a max. of three by 21 (1 by 7) of the other five rites.(SO important and so clearly pointed out by Kilham)
- Concludingly, I have to tell that I have only met one person in all the years, who didn’t feel comfortable with doing the 6th tibetan exercise. – so if you don’t feel comfortable doing it,- just don’t do it.
Also I am a great supporter of Kelders teachings, preaching that you should start out with 3 of each exercises for one week and then add another 2 repetitions to each exercise per week. So going from 3 to 5 to 7 to 9 to 11 to 13 to 15 to 17 to 19 to 21 one week at a time.
Your body will feel it and love you for it!
Love Anja

I did do my exercises today! 10 minutes this morning on the cellerciser developed by David Hall featured on David Wolfe’s Longevity Conference 2009 DVDs. I will also do 10 minutes when I get home. There is no soreness after doing this; it is more than just bouncing up and down – there are a bunch of techniques/positions that can be done. I would suggest this for anyone at any age – see David’s information on his home page – you can Google David Hall or cellercise (make sure it states David Hall)
I also do Tai Chi and the cellercising has helped with balance and grounding!
Thanks for all that you do.

Today I weeded my grandparents yard. Far from intense exercise, but, besides being very peaceful, it got me into the dirt in my bare feet and hipswinging crabwalks that I hadn’t done in a long time. I felt a sort of primal reconnection. Last night however, two friends and I decided to jog to our destination in the middle of the night through a busy part of town where everyone else was out barhoppin. Fun randomness. Felt vital most of the way, then got a little constricted in the chest.

Hi…
Wow, it has been 20 years since I’ve done the Tibetan Rites on a routine basis. I do Spring Forest Qigong, few other Taoist practices, BaHA breathing, and Tibetan practices.
After doing Spring Forest and receiving direct help from Master Chunyi Lin, I had the most incredible run alongside the San Francisco Bay. I had started out walking from my home in Albany (next to Berkeley) and all of sudden felt compelled to run. I ran with effortlessness. The run did not feel harsh on my limbs of body, nor did my breathing feel rough and labored. I felt like I could run forever — each stride increased my sense of euphoria and freedom. It was peculiar and unforgettable. Some sort of metabolic switched had turned on during my morning qigong session that translated into my run. It was very powerful. This was during at time when I was doing Jazzercise every morning in Richmond at 6am. I suspect it was the combination of all these things.
I will introduce them again in time. Thanks for the reminder.
Loved reading the comments on this segment…

Today I started my day with an hour long bike ride, then I went to work and rode 6 horses! I think riding the horses was more fun, but also more dangerous! Some days I get 10-15 mins stretching, but not today. I always find it harder to get motivated to do that….

Weird synch. I just started doing these again. I got a couple Mantak Chia books on Taoist healing practices. I didn’t know about the 6th rite, will have to look that up. I tried Spring Forest Qigong and the Microcosmic orbit in the past and tho it helped a little bit I didn’t really get a lot out of it or the 5 rites… Trying again as the topic keeps coming back up in my life.

What a great video! I love learning new exercises. I haven’t worked out today; taking a rest day, but I look forward to trying these rites tomorrow morning, especially since you said they help with digestion.
In that respect, could you talk about how to stimulate digestion when one wakes up? I’ve tried drinking a litre of water upon waking, but it rarely stimulates a BM. I’ve also tried warm lemon water, hot tea, and ab massage, to little effect. Also, how long do you wait in the morning before eating? Thanks!

The Five Tibetans keep me going when I can’t get to more exercise; it’s the least I can do, as they are quick and powerful! Since more than 20 years. And I love to incorporate them in my yoga routine. They’re all great for upper, lower, and middle body. I’ve changed the spinning to vigorous swinging left and right, as I know how important twisting the body daily is. And yes, the breath. So important in all exercise and life!

Thanks so much! I’ve been wanting to know about these for a while. But like someone else pointed out, it would be nice if you could also let us know when to breathe in and out for each exercise.
I’ve been doing yoga for a while and usually you need to breathe as you move and it’s quite important to know when to do each.
Great show! Thanks!

Going to ride my adult trike…but I really appreciate the exercises you added…especially the one about the thyroid. Hi Guys! I just got back from my 1 hr. of power walking hills. I then started my new routine of…….tibetan rites! Thanks for such a great demo and the motivation. Annmarie, you make them look SO easy. I did 6 spins and about crashed into my dresser! I did manage 5 of the others.
I think it’ll be a while before I hit 21, but I will get there. Great show!

Hi,
I did these 5 tibetans (and sometimes the sixth) for years with great pleasure. Untill I showed them to two different (mensendieck and chiropractor) health proactitioners that I had to consult that time. They both advised against nr 3 and especially number 5 saying that they would ruin your lower back in the long run. I lost faith then also in the other ones.
I do other things now (Yoga swing/Om swing).
How about if you two asked some health practitoners who work with the (lower) back about this?
BTW: Thanx for great inspiration/information.

Amazingly enough these are almost exactly identical to the five rites taught in Russian physical culture that a person may learn before doing kettlebells or systema training. I think it’s cool that all the worlds great civilizations share so much in common especially when it comes to health and healing.
And yes I worked out today, a high rep calisthenic workout.
4:42 pm on May 22nd, 2010
loved the video, your radiance, the reminder- it´s really helpful. One thing that I would like to point out is that the 5 rites go together with an affirmation each. They really worked for me, sometimes in the tram just repeating the phrases made me feel so good- now I can come back to those and with Annmarie do the exercises. Before, I found it difficult to introduce them without visual instruction and evetually stopped it because I felt I was doing something wrong as it didn´t feel right too often.. Today – bike riding, walking, relaxing, feeling the sun intensively…
Thank you for sharing so much about number 6- and yes, could someone explain it please? – breathing instructions would be extremely helpful for me as well. Someone recently helped me to remove some old stress from my lung and breast region, now it feels 7,5 cm wider (measured by a halfround knee support pipe kind of thing that I laid down on with my backbone to have space to open my breast region when lying down. Then I had some sound massage (very powerful completion with a big BANG) and it shook my complete bone system into a new arrangement- it was so great. I now have breathing problems and bless them and those who helped me get there – as before I hadn´t even noticed there is space to breathe there for me. Now I am learning to (re)direct my breath there. My minimum programme is : 1. breathe at all.
2. Breathe in with your nose, out with your mouth.
3. breathe conciously, feel its flow.
It is amazing which other conclusions you can draw about your life if you have been breathing in with your mouth too often… So your video is also Just IN TIME for me as well. Thank you Kevin and Annmarie for the love you share and the community you have brought and keep together…

I’ve never heard of these 5 rites. I live under the same rock as Patty #15. I will try them tonight. I still do the neck stretches you showed us months ago at your Mom’s house.
Exercise today: mowed lawn with tractor, weeded and hauled mulch. In a few minutes I will try the rites, and yoga, with creative visualization.
I am curious about rite #6, but am not up to celebacy.

Bonsoir Kevin & Annmary,
thank for Fitness Friday. Actually I did a little bit exercise today by riding my bike from Paris to Normandy for 110 miles in 6 hours with a heavy backpack. Two days ago I came by bike from Normandy to Paris visiting my Portlander friend, who bring me blueberry plants from Oregon. Yesterday was my birthday (40th y. old). Stretching is my daily exercise to balance my 2-3 hours training on the bike. I will try the 5 tibetan rites.

Thanks for bringing back Fitness Friday. I especially love that you have introduced something that i have never heard of before.
I would like to know if this is a practice you do only once a day and does it matter what time of the day you do it. Unfortunatley i was eating breakfast while watching and thought it is probably best done before eating but you also mentioned you do it first thing in the morning. Is there some significance to that?
Thanks guys and have a great day.
P.S. I would also like to know what number 6 is and what is the significance of the abstinence?

Here’s a description of the 6th Rite. Go to this website and scroll down for a diagram:
http://www.scribd.com/doc/7905854/Tibetan-Rejuvenation-6th-Rite
Tibetan Rejuvenation Rite #6restricted exercise
The series of Five Tibetan exercises described above is capable of being practiced two or three times a day everyday during the entire lifetime. In contrast, the following exercise, according to the Tibetan Lamas, has a very special purpose and it ought to be practiced only in circumstances described below. If you are not sure, and do not practice the first five exercises regularly, do not practice this exercise. You have been warned.
The deemed purpose of the Tibetan #6 exercise is to redirect the excess of sexual and reproductive energy, generated by the activity of the what is perceived of as being the base chakra (also referred to as vortexes) to all higher chakras along the spine, especially to the brow chakra, which activity is related to our spiritual awareness and psychic abilities. According to Lamas this exercise ought to be practiced only when the excess of the sexual urge is experienced, otherwise this exercise does more harm than benefit, by draining the energy from the base chakra.
By systematically practicing the first five Tibetan exercises it is quite possible to raise the energy of the base chakra so much, that the sexual urge appears and requires to be dealt with. This is capable of happening at any age.
One way to handle the situation is to dissipate this powerful energy in sexual activities. The Tibetan alternative is to transmute it to higher use, to accelerate your spiritual development and rejuvenate the physical body. Instead of dissipating the reproductive energy you may choose to use it to regenerate cells in your entire physical body. The choice is yours; you have the free choices, as always.
Sometimes one may find in their lives that sexual activity without sincere love and a spiritually matched partner is similar to going to a forest and not seeing trees.
Sexual love in its clearest form brings about a spiritual union, bringing experiences and
sensations far more profound, pleasurable, longer lasting and beneficial than just a physical act of relief.
In the absence of a partner that you are capable of achieving this with, Tibetan Lamas offer you the alternative, verified over many thousands of years to be not only effective, though also very beneficial to your total health, longevity, bio-energy level, Aura and most importantly to your spiritual development. They do not attempt to suppress the powerful energy of the base chakra. Such suppression is destined to fail, much as any act against the Nature. They offer an efficient way to transmute it for the higher purpose.
Rite #6
Tibetan #6 differs in many ways from all of the previously described Tibetan exercises.
1st – it is one of the easiest to perform from the physical body motion point of view, hardly requiring any diagram
2nd- it involves a special breath control, requiring a prolonged holding of the breath, rather than breathing rhythmically.

Thank you so much!
So I started doing this today, and my dh joined in (which is akin to a small miracle) when he saw me and Anne-Marie (pausing between each rite) in the action, and…
our 3 and a half daughter went to get her mini guitar to accompany us.
This was the best workout ever.
Downward and upward dog, though… tough. Any advice as to how to do it when you’re 40 and even if kinda in shape, kinda not as flexible as beautiful Annemarie.
With love from Europe where I follow you with bliss. THANK YOU for your work.

I guess I’ve been under the same rock as Patty and Susan
Thanks, though, for showing us these rites! I’ve got to try them.
Currently, I am no longer doing my intense treadmill/weights workouts because of (what feels like) adrenal exhaustion; just walking 10,000 steps a day outside is all I can manage…sometimes not even that. But maybe the rites will help me with muscle tone!

The sequence of Tibetan Rite #6 is as follows:
1. Stand straight and breathe out completely
2. Bend over forward putting your hands on your knees, forcing out the last trace of air
3. With your lungs empty return to standing straight posture
4. Put your hands on your waist and push your shoulders up by pressing down with your hands. Pull the abdomen in as much as possible and raise your chest – keeping your lungs empty.
5. Hold this position as long as you can, with empty lungs
6. Breathe in through the nose until your lungs are full
7. Exhale through the mouth, relaxing arms to hang free
8. Take several deep breaths before the next repetition

Hurray for Fitness Friday!
I have never heard of these Five Tibetan Rites, but they seem so straightforward that I’ll be trying them in a minute.
Bonus: no equipment required & can be done anywhere. Sweet!

Exercises are great but a bit wrong on the 3rd and 4th first thing you breathe out and bring chin to your chest. if u do them every day you get younger, if not regularly the process is reverse.
about sex – if to have sex without ejaculation you will surely get stones in your kidneys according to ayurveda, and to have sex with ejaculation destroys ojas which is equally horrible. something to think about..

There’s a small paperback book on these rites, and I used to do them 15 years ago and stopped, like I stop everything else. Seems dating and living in different places coast-to-coast got in the way!

I usually exercise on the weekends by shoveling clay ‘dirt’ in the trailer, haul it off and shoveling it shovel it into a pile where ever they want it for free. Then we have been putting a soil mix back in so we can grow some vegetables! However I pulled a groin muscle a few weeks ago and my husband has been having to do that on his own. I tried these 5 rites today. I felt very sick/nauseous after. I did 5 each, tomorrow I will only do 3. They did not look like much so I figured 5 would be okay. I guess not:)

I look forward to trying the Five Rites. Tonight I am going to the gym for an hour of weight training and 45 min on the spin bike with lots of stretching before and after my workout.

Hi Kevin,
Whats your view on using supplements ( TestOroid in particular), to raise Testosterone levels for men in their 30’s- with the view to increasing endurance and muscle mass.
My husband wants to take it- it says its all natural products, but I still feel uneasy. I hear to much Testosterone can kill brain cells and shrink the testes. Can you suggest a healthy alternative if you dont support TestOroid ?
I am aware that Maca, compound exercises, EFA’s, cruciferous veg and sex help raise Test’ naturally- I am just unsure about supplements like TestOroid.
Many Thanks- u guys RAWK
