Today, the topic is fitting, since we are breaking a fast (it’s day 6 of our juice fast)…
We figured we might as well tell you how to properly break a fast!
We’ve had an awesome time at Hacienda Del Sol and would recommend you check it out if you want to go to beautiful Costa Rica and do a fasting retreat.
(Here’s where you can go: http://www.haciendadelsolcr.com)
In this episode, we also cover juice feasting (the good and the OK).
Take a look…

I much prefer water fasting to juice feasting, it screws with my blood sugar (hypoglycemic). LOL! you guys seemed a little loopy!

The two of you are wonderful!
I am a dietitian (RD) and am constantly looking for nutrition information sites that I can trust enough to refer patients to. There are very few. The Renegade Health Show is in that very small and elite group. Thank you for the wonderful (common sense)information.

I loved juice feasting but I am in the category that has a lot of health challenges. i was drinking about 3 quarts a day and felt amazing! I only did it for 3 weeks but had lots of energy and dropped my blood sugar in half. The biggest drawback was that it took about 1 1/2 hours every morning to make up the juices for the day and the cost since it requires 10-12 pounds of produce a day.
I love that your 7 Day Challenge. It has been much easier so far – on Day 3 today.
Thanks for all you do, Maia

Hi Guys–Breaking your fast. That is exactly what I was doing while watching today’s video. Though it was only a 24 hour fast. I do this twice a week between the four 15 day fasts I do every year. I started out doing juice fasting for the 15 days, then a few years back I ran across the Master Cleanse, so now I do 10 days MC, then 5 days or more just juicing. I usually break my fast with figs soaked over night or just have a small apple. For the 24 hour fast it is usually a small bowl of quinoa & beans flavored with curry powder and granulated kelp. Extended juice fasts are great for healing a lot of different conditions. The juice feasting could get a little spendy, though I have seen some really good results for people who do it. I do the intermittent fasting Mondays and Thursdays. It works very good for weight control and helps out for maintaining a high energy level. You still get to eat on your fasting days, as you fast from dinner to the dinner the next night, 24 hours. I also do my heavy workout days on my fasting days just before I eat dinner. Have a good one—Rev John

I’ve never juice fasted … so I don’t know what my thoughts are on it … it hasn’t felt like the right thing to do so far …
3:37 pm on May 14th, 2010
I have not yet fasted because i seem to have chemicals and metals in my body. from my research i have heard things that when you fast the chemicals get sequestered deeper into the fatty tissue…any thoughts? AND, thank you guys for answering my liver gall bladder flush question, AWESOME!!!

Juice fasting…or feasting, YAHHH!
Today, I was feasting on rum….ahhh…Just joking!
I fast 2 days/ week on water, and water and lemon more than 14 days twice in the year to cleanse my body.
Juice fasting? I don’t know, I did try just on weekends and felt great. Your body thank you for that and the next week you have a ton of energy. It’s great that you did it together and you had the chance to enjoy the warmth of Costa Rica sun. You look great, happy and full of joy. Good for you!
Thank you for taking the time to report back to us! It was a pleasure to participate even from the distance and from a cold, nasty place like Toronto.

I guess the problem of your lunch was the oil. Oil delays digestion for about 2 hours…
I haven’t done any juice feast, only 24 hrs water fast once every 3 weeks. My way of breaking a one-day water fast is eating watermelon. Starting from drinking a glass of lemon water, then eat 2-3 small pieces of watermelon, slowly increase the amount every hour, stop after dinner time.
The one-day water fast helped tremendously, a lot of my RA symptoms have gone. Actually, I’m planning to do a 3 day water fast in June… ah… feeling a bit hesitated.

I’ve been following your journey, watching the Renegade Health Show and had the pleasure of meeting you both at my local Henry’s market. I have never posted a comment before but feel I must today. What I saw today when I watched the show, were two fidgeting, scratching, exhausted, unfocused and quite honestly uncomfortable people. I can only attribute these signs to your recent juice fast. Kevin, your color looks pale and you are looking very thin. AnnMarie, you look like you are struggling with every word. Please, go eat some greens. Send the old Giannis back to me!

Thank you so much for giving a more balanced view of fasting in the raw food world.I have written an article on detoxing the mind body and spirit.Being trained as a dancer I can see that people who have had previous eating disorders using fasting to continue with an eating disorder or it morphs into orthorexia the need to be clean enough.
Personally I dont enjoy fasting, the longest I have fasted for is 5 days and that was enough for me.I think that fasting can be a very useful tool to help with healing crisis,or if someone wants to connect more with their spiritual nature although I do think fasting is not the only option to do so.
The key is to go into it with the right mindset. If it is undertaken in a mindset of deprivation I think it can be a way of abusing ourselves. If it is done with acceptance of all the benefits then it can be healing.
Unfortunately I can see long term fasting being heavily promoted in a way that is fear based,ie if you dont fast,do colonics you will not be healthy etc….
Its unfortunate that in the raw foods not enough attention is given to our mind and spirit.Ive seen people who are not health nuts thrive on a less than optimal diet because they are so well adjusted mentally and spiritually.Although I choose to follow the living food life style I do think that it can be a full time occupation which might not be balanced for some people.
I think people should only do what feels right for them and not impose anything that doesnt resonate.

I love the juice feasting site, there is so much good info. I have juice feasted for up to a week, but i don’t like hating my juicer which ends up happening. Lately, when I cleanse, i might do a juice or smoothie in the morning and afternoon, then a blended soup in the evening.
I’m inspired to try a day or two of water fasting next.
Costa Rica is so nice. You are going to enjoy the hot spring around Arenal. Go to Tabacan for hot springs and buffet dinner (lots of fruit and salads), but don’t do the horse back riding trip to the waterfalls there (saddest, dirtiest horses I’ve ever seen). There’s a canyoneering trip that is alot of fun–rappelling down a series of 4 waterfalls. Hopefully the sky will be clear so that you can see the volcanic action–stunning.
Nice to see you soooo relaxed!

Any kind of fasting is good for the body because it gives our digestive system a usually needed break. I really like the Master Cleanse (Lemonade Diet) because it is a great detox. Juice Feasting can be a sugar overload but with the right balance of water to keep the blood sugar down it is very effective. BTW – you can monitor your sugar level by checking your urine with a refractometer.

YOU BOTH LOOK GREAT!
So far I have only used a vita-mixer.
I have not done a juice feast or fast.
I purchased a juicer about six weeks ago but have not taken it out of the box.
Shame on me.
I ordered a book with recipes for juicing.
My goal will be to use it when it arrives.
6:49 pm on May 14th, 2010
I love the juice feasting site. It has a wealth of information. I had planned on starting my juice feasting in June…but, I am very concerned with the cost of all of the produce. However, I do appreciate your opinion on the subject.
You both look wonderful. I hope to one day visit that resort…it seems like a wonderful place to be with other like minded people. ‘
peace.

Over the past month I have done a one day juice feast each week which means 3 quarts of primarily green juice, 1 quart of water and maybe some coconut water and/or some tulsi tea. The next day I have a colonic. I think it is really necessary to have a colonic or an enema (or 2) even after just one day of juice fasting. It is so hydrating and alkalizing, it really neutralizes a lot of old stuff you will want to get out of your system pronto! I now really, really want to go to Hacienda del Sol for a week. Thank you guys so much.
8:10 pm on May 14th, 2010
Volume much better today, thank you!
You both look great, btw.
I bought a book on juice feasting but I haven’t tried doing it. I find juicing annoying; I’d rather blend. If someone made the juice for me and did something productive with the pulp, I’d try it, but until then, I think a week or less of juicing would be more realistic for me.
What was your favorite juice while you were there?
11:03 pm on May 14th, 2010
I find the concept of juice feasting fascinating. The website has a wealth of information. I was actually thinking about embarking on one for a couple of days but the weather is too cold at the moment. I could never do this though for 3 months unless I had an incentive such as a life threatening disease and then I only would do it if a couple of reliable health practitioners would advise it. I love my juices, especially my green juice but I have noticed that i sometimes need a break from it. Natalia Rose’s concept of juicing until dinner is more realistic for me

I think water fasting is the ultimate cleanse.
I was super impressed with the dude from True
North(Dr.Goldhammer?)when he explained that
juice fasting is actually a misnomer.Juice is also food that requires digestion(albeit much less energy required)His advice was to never
water-fast for more than a day or so without
supervision. That makes total sense because,as he stated, when the body is not digesting,it goes into 100% elimination mode.Depending on the individual, that scenario could spell big time problems for folks with major toxemia.
BTW- ADRIANA #6…….
Toronto is a very cold nasty place to be.I
visited up there a few times and man…I was
soooooo happy to get out of that town..the
people are nice, but NOBODY wants to be there.
Come on down to South Florida(Key West area)
You will never ever miss Toronto and you will also discover warm, lovely people that appreciate
growing organic fruits &vegetables year round !
6:19 am on May 15th, 2010
You are total gems!
I value what you have to say so much and you always come up with very interesting, logical angles on everything you address on the show.
I am really interested by juice feasting. I have Insulin resistance and possibly poly cystic ovarian syndrome, so I deal with quite a few health issues. I am seeing a practitioner but I would love to juice feast someday, even just for a number of days/weeks to help my healing process.
When I fast on juice I get quite agitated, especially by evening time, no matter how much juice I take, so the emotional aspect of such an intense feast/fast is a bit intimidating, as i would expect a massive emotional discharge and I would want a lot of time off for myself.
I also worry about the cost, I feasted for 1 day, on non-organic veg juice and it was pricey for me, so if I were to do it on organic (which for me is the ideal if I’m trying to heal), with the huge volumes of greens, I don’t think i could afford it.
Maybe one day when I have a bit more money I will do it for a while, but I agree with you both, I would do it for my serious complaints and do shorter juice stints to cleanse more regularly.
Thanks for all the brilliant info and for addressing things which I’m sure we all think about and are a bit confused about

I love JUICEFEASTING- I did it for 14 days and felt amazing. My skin glowed, my eyes sparkled and I lost over 15 pounds. It was not difficult for me b/c I was so nourished by the green juices – I was not hungry at all. This was to prepare me for the cleanse in Costa Rica. I was there with you guys. You two were so awsome with everyone, it was a real treat for me that you guys ended up there the same time. Juicefeast is a practice I will continue for life!
11:33 am on May 15th, 2010
I personally do and am now on a green smoothie fast. I find it is gentler on my body and easier for me to continue on. I have lost 85 pounds this way as well as releasing my diabetes, heart disease, along with other assorted problems. The fruit sugars did not raise MY blood sugar. But I do recommend YOU check it if you have diabetes yourself. EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT.
The juicing only problem for me was a little too regimented for me to stay with for any length of time. I couldn’t keep it up but occasionally have green juices each day as well.
Kevin and Annmarie – My question to you is… You mentioned MMS on Friday. Is that different from MSM? How and Why? What EXACTLY is it for?
Thanks,
LuAnn

Wow thanks for sharing your experience! You guys look amazing~
We haven’t juice fasted/feasted, so dont have experienced opinion. I would be interested in a 3 day juice feast. Chris says he would rather do a smoothie feast. We have done a 5 day smoothie feast. I liked it. Chris had a harder time and wanted a different taste. He thinks he would do better with it now though. We dont have any major health problems. But I can tell you I would use supervised fasting if I did.
For S.A.D. eaters, even a Non-processed food “fast” would help.
Try to eat no processed food for 3 days. That would be a good start.
Aloha~

Hey Kev and Anne-Marie,
If you thought wikipedia was an unbiased source, think again. I was reading up on an article regarding Dr. Max Gerson today and thought it might be nice to share since there has been a lot of talk about the gerson tapes lately. Apparently, there was some information shared/published by Dr. Max Gerson’s Grandson (Howard Straus) on Wikipedia, however, it was recently noted that much of what was published and cited has been removed and labbelled as “biased” and “unreliable”. I thought this was a little upsetting since Wikepedia is updated mainly by readers and public. It’s becoming increasingly difficult to find truthful information on the web. Yet another source you readers should be weary of when searching for trustful informaiton. Just thought I’d share.

LuAnn, They are quite different.
MMS is Miracle Mineral Solution
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miracle_Mineral_Solution
It is popular with some due to Jim Humble:

MSM is Methylsulfonylmethane
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Methylsulfonylmethane
It has been touted as effective for arthritis.

I don’t see much value in juice feasting. I believe we need all the fiber in fruits and veggies to really cleanse our bodies. Juicing removes almost all the fiber, and you then need to have enemas. If you just ate whole fresh fruits and veggies, or blended them as green smoothies, then you would have plenty of fiber and you would not need to have enemas.
I am planning to do a week or two of just fruits and veggies, plus spirulina or other forms of algae and other cleansing herbs. But I would not juice them. I want all that fiber.
During cleansing, we eat fewer calories than our bodies need, forcing our bodies to burn up fat and release toxins. During this time, we need more fiber than usual, to help transport these toxins out of the body. It seems illogical to avoid fiber by consuming only juice. Without fiber, our bodies would re-absorb much of the toxicity.
Doing a daily enema can help get rid of the toxins, but really, who wants to do an enema every day? Do people really enjoy this process? I’ve done them, and they are not what I would call a good time.
So, I will just eat whole fruits and veggies when I want to clean out my body. And I would include whole coconut, which helps cleanse the liver and gall bladder. Are you familiar with some of the research being done on coconut oil fasting? People are getting some amazing results from coconut oil — please look into that.
And thanks for sharing your experience in Costa Rica. You both look radiant and happy.

Excellent information AnnMarie and Kevin . I liked what you had to say Kevin on MMS risk verses reward. Juice fasting I agree with Ann Marie for some people it works wonders for various health challenges. And I suppose other people would do well with more fiber in their system. Kevin your wife looks magnificent with her long hair and red dress and neck lace. And Kevin you look so calm and tranquil.Thank you both.

I did juice feast last year since 23rd January till 23rd April. It was tremendous experience for me.
Until than I never realized how much my 25 kilos I had in overweight area was troubling me and how much is clean and simple food important to feel good and vibrant. True, I gained 3 kilos since than but I’m trying to find some new ways that agree with me (daylight diet, to be specific).
I tried to do juice feasting this spring again but I felt it was to much for me so I dropped out after 30 days.
My conclusion is that juice feast is a great tool but you have to prepare yourself mentally for it and to be prepared to listen to your body very, very carefully.
1:05 pm on May 17th, 2010
I’m planning on starting a juice feast on June 1st — I’m shooting for the whole 92 days, but now I can’t imagine going that long… so I’m going to just set my intention, listen to my body, and be open to a breakthrough in what’s possible. I need to lose about 50 lbs. and lower my high blood pressure, so those are my two main priorities.
Unfortunately, the Rainosheks seem to have disappeared. The Global Juice Feast 2010 is supposed to begin on July 2nd, but this weekend globaljuicefeast.com disappeared, as did davidrainoshek.com. Even their juicefeasting.com website is out of date.
No idea what’s going on there — it’s frustrating because those are clearly the biggest sources of support for juice feasters.
2:11 pm on May 17th, 2010
Thank you for the tips! When you say MMS, are you talking about chlorine dioxide?
I think I could try juice feasting for a few days, but it’s not really feasible if you do work that involves a lot of physical and mental activity. I would need to take time off to do a longer fast…or feast.
I still think a juice “feast” is a type of fast because there is no way your body is getting all the nutritional requirements it needs, and thus you are fasting. That’s why you couldn’t survive on juice alone in the long term without health problems. Although you’re getting A LOT of certain vitamins and minerals, you’re not getting the entire gamut, and then of course there’s the protein and fat that you’re missing. So to me, it’s a juice FAST. =)

Is swimming in chlorinated pools bad for you?

On May 12th, via Dr. Fuhrman, I was lucky to be invited to the premiere screening in NYC of the movie, FAT, SICK AND NEARLY DEAD. Contrary to the title, the movie was awe inspiring and motivational as our hero, Joe Crosse, crossed the country with a juicer, generator (& of course his film crew). He spoke to people about their health and met a 428 pound man at a truck stop in AZ who he helped on the road to juicing an healing, who in turn helped his brother. So, I now, am on DAY 5 of my juice fast. Really liking it, trying to stay out of ketosis by drinking the juice and I feel great with much energy and free of the energy drain of digestion and food going into my body. I actually like this a lot!

I have only juice feasted for a few days when suffering from severe chronic fatigue and was to tired to prepare food or chew it. I love food and texture so feasting would not be something I would do unless health situations called me to it.

I am a little behind as I just returned from Romania and I am catching up on your videos. As someone who has spent some time with both of you I think you both look very good. I saw nothing like what was described by the one viewer. But I know your mannerisms so you just seemed like yourselves.
Once again you have shown a wonderful balance and candor in what you have shared.
I have done varied lengths of juice fasts/feasts but never the 92 days. I went 27 days and took 3 days to come off of that one. For me I found that I personally did great and felt good but I have colon issues that it stirred up and I have found since that long feast I have yet to be able to get through a true fast again as I immediately have nothing but water going through my colon and this becomes a huge issue with my colon and rectum. (rectum, likely killed um)
Your advice is perfect. You have to listen to what your body is truly telling you. Too many people are looking for the answers from everyone else and their bodies would love to be listened to for a change.
Love you guys!
