What to Do for Adrenal Fatigue : The Renegade Health Show Episode #566

During our fast, the owner of Hacienda del Sol brought us to this amazing beach on the west coast of Costa Rica…

This is the perfect place for relaxation and a perfect time to talk about what to do for adrenal fatigue.

As you may or may not know, my experience / experiment with cacao (or raw chocolate) severely burnt out my adrenals. It’s been a long ride back and I’m still rebuilding.

In today’s episode, I explain what I’m doing as well as how to keep teeth white when you’re eating a lot of green stuff on the raw food diet.

Take a look…

Your question of the day: What do you do to relax?

Click here, scroll down to the bottom of the page and leaVe your comments now!

Be sure to check out Hacienda Del Sol (where we are for this fast) here: http://www.haciendadelsolcr.com

My favorite way to relax is enjoying nature. The beach is optimum, but since I live in the midwest, my backyard deck in the shade, with the birds chirping and my dog resting at my side is pretty darn relaxing!

Spending time at the beach and with trees. Taking moments to walk with Goddess. These are some of my favorite ways… Oooop and belly dancing;) Try some geranium oil for your adrenals.. It helps to regulate them. Also some Holy Basil tea or capsules.. Works as a COX2 inhibitor… Lymebook.com is Bryan’s site. So happy for the two of you and thanks for letting me hear that ocean:)

Definitely being surrounded by nature and/or going to the beach is my fave. It’s awesome to do a brief hike in the woods/hills near the beach and then relax and eat on the beach afterward. You can also cool off in the water. Ahhh I have to do that soon!

After hours of being in front of the computer I go out side, bare foot if I can and hug or just hold the tree. I give that energy that I don’t need back to the tree and ask for the grounding energy that the tree can give back. Love it.

Would love to jump in the ocean like you. Have a brilliant time!

Nature!! I used to live by the ocean(Mendocino California),and would go for walks and runs on the ocean cliffs, and I miss it so much. Now I go in my backyard and sit or lay in the sun, listen to the wind and trees and birds and dream!!

I also love reading, walking the river trail, hiking, listening to music and watching movies! All very relaxing. But there is nothing so thoroughly restful and relaxing as being in nature. In fact, I think I’m inspired to go have a little relaxing time in the sun right now!

Thanks always for such a great show!

Question: Is there anything in particular you look for in a B vitamin supplement?

Your colema is called a colonic, which I took in the early 80s before they had the machines. I know about colema boards, which have been for sale since the early 80s, which is positioned over the toilet.

Kev, I thought you swore off chocolate, so what’s “too much chocolate?”

I was at a most beautiful beach in Olongopo, Philippines where fish jumped and a volcano was in the distance. I have to say Ocean Beach in San Francisco, CA has always been a resting/relaxation spot since I was a kid.

    Safe travels…

I like to walk barefoot in nature or lay on the sand at the beach, or I get a massage or do energy work on myself.

Here are a couple of questions for you:
    1) What do you use for sunscreen? (Seems all those on EWG have some potential safety issues)
    2) Can you post a list of the various lab tests you do to monitor your health?
    Thanks!

Going outside and being surrounded by nature is one of my favourite ways to relax. That and yoga.
Maybe I’ll try combining the two this summer :)

Relaxing doen’t happen to often but going in the pool in the morning or early afternoon and hearing all the birds and animals around me is awesome! By the way, I am selling my juicer if anyone is intersted please e-mail me at wall2wes@aol.com. Here is some info about it. Samson Ultra -Twin gear Juicer- Originally purchased for over $400. Auto pulp ejection, vegetable and grains can be grinded. A variety of pasta’s

I do cacao everyday in a superfood smoothie,
almost 6 months now. I take regular breaks, I have had no issues with adrenal issues. For me, at least so far, raw cacao is the best thing ever but I realize it isnt for everyone. Just wondering how long it took for you to experience this burn out? And how much wre you doing each day?

I’m lucky enjoy to live 2 blocks from a dog-friendly beach in San Diego, so whenever I need to releax or unwind, I head down to the beach with man’s best friend and let him run around with the other dogs while I enjoy the sun, surf and sand.

I love to relax outside. If I am spinning my wheels and don’t know where to start with all the things I need to do, I just sit outside on a warm summer night, listen to the sounds of the world around me, connect to what I can imagine to be the fresh pure air and life outdoors, and think about things without doing anything for at least 60 minutes. Pondering. I feel like it helps me get started if I am not sure what to do next.

If I am overwhelmed by too many things, I usually do something outside the house, either in the garage or out back. I have a small strip of earth beside the south side of the house that makes a perfect little spot to plant a couple things. I have found that getting my hands into the dirt really helps to stop worrying about everything. It just takes the importance off other things and allows me to accept myself being at peace. Give it a try and plant some habenero peppers along a south facing wall. They are really pretty and fun to dare eating. The bush will look like a bouquet of colors when the fruit starts ripening.

Why aren’t you taking a true vacation? Put down that videocamera for a few days. We’ll survive until you get back :-)
I would love to know that you are truly resting in such a beautiful location. Come back refreshed after a few days completely off! AnnMarie is right! Listen to your wife! I’m glad you’ve got someone like AnnMarie looking after your health so you can keep changing the world.

I think I saw a hammock there behind you! Stretch out and enjoy the vista–do it for us here in Nutley, New Jersey, Kevin!

    Love,
    Melissa

PS–I lost 25 pounds since February and your 7-day raw food challenge was awesome! I even got hubby to do it with me. We felt terrific! Thanks for the push! :-)

Yoga, walking, painting, gardening … lots of things are relaxing, if I’m in the mood to be relaxed. If not, those same things can be almost stressful. For me, it’s definitely a state of mind, rather than a specific activity.

Taking walks. One of my favorite spots is in the nearby hills, called Sandy wool lake. If you’re there early, especially in the summer, you can often see dear, wild turkey, jack rabbits, horses, cows, lizards and snakes. The lake also has lots of good sized turtles and a variety of ducks.

I don’t have a very big yard (yet!), but I do enjoy doing a bit of gardening. Have tomatoes, lettuce and mint growing right now.

You both seem very mellow on this video. I am glad you both take good care of yourselves. carpe diem !

    Awesome location!
My favorite way to relax would be to spend some quality time in the sun on a beach like the one that’s behind you(:

Since you are here answering questions for a week, I’d like to ask a question that’s been bugging me for a while now..

Regarding oil soluble vitamins such as vitamins A,D,E – do you have to take them together with some oil in your food? or is it enough that you have had oil earlier during the day?
(as far as I know, these vitamins need oil, to be absorbed properly..)
    Thanks!

    Enjoy your fasting!

Wow! that really felt good to have two of my questions answered today and from such a lovely place…..ahhh, I could feel those waves!

Hope you could feel my appreciation! I will follow through on your answers. Already started using the tooth soap and brightener from your store. The adrenals are a bit more complicated but I heard you about minerals and bought the fulvic minerals and some sea vegetables as well. Will follow through on the other suggestions too.

One more question please….I have recently read that Almonds and Hemp seeds are both Goitrogens. Meaning they cause hypo functioning of the thyroid gland. Since I am already hypothyroid, along with the adrenal insufficiency, I don’t want to eat anything that will cause my thyroid not to function as well as it can.

I’ve been making my own almond milk for months and I really like it. Do you know if Almonds are truly goitrogens? I have found mixed answers on the web. If they are, would boiling them first make a difference as it does with cruciferous vegetables that are also goitrgenic? I have tried to find the answers to this question myself but only found contradictions. Perhaps you have better sources.

Thank you for all you do!

    Peace, Love and Harmony,
    Bev

A walk on the beach, and going to the hairdresser (nice head massage…) or my accupuncturist.
My question: what do you think of the 80/10/10 diet by Dr. Douglas Graham and would you advise this diet to combat fatigue.
You both look great. Enjoy the rest of your stay!

Glad you are enjoying the juice fast!
Thank you for your teeth product recommendations too!
For relaxation I love to get outside, go for a hike, go out with a friend for coffee, and lately I’ve liked just browsing through my pictures and seeing the places I’ve been and the great times I had!

I was relaxing just watching you guys relax! :0) The sounds of the birds and waves in the background was nice! I live by the beach, so it would have to be hanging out by the ocean. So amazing! Hopefully, the oil leak won’t wreck the shorelines across our great country!

About adrenal fatigue, i suggest reading -Adrenal fatigue: the 21st century stress syndrome by James L. Wilson and his web site ar http://www.adrenalfatigue.org
I have been taking is supplements for about 3 weeks and i can see a difference in my energy level. You need to see a good naturopath that know a lot about adrenals. Being raw is not enough to overcome this.

Lovely beaches Kevin. We are actually considering Costa Rica for a vacation and of course it is good to know that there are retreats such as the one you are visiting. How is your fast going btw ? Are you experiencing some typical “fast” symptoms? I am considering doing a “juicefeast” (modified) I listened this morning to your interview with David Rainoshek that you did a while ago and I like the concept very much especially since I should not lose any weight. My experience is that doing a fast is something you have to be ready for psychologically. You can have the best intentions but if the mind is not ready you are not going to last. My husband and I did the master cleanse almost 2 years ago. I lasted 8 days but after he went through the Hippocrates program, he thinks that (green) juice fasting is far superior.

My way of relaxing? The beach, hiking in the mountains and browsing in a lovely bookstore, having a cappucino and a butter croissant (NO green juice please) It is all about balance isn’t it?

There are so many ways to relax but somehow nothing seems to work as easily as watching the moon rise or the stars peep out. This seems to still my mind and calm my soul. But when it’s not possible to do this, meditating seems to work best. Also, tuning in to the crickets and tree frogs at night is comforting.

I have been doing all raw for a year, but would like to add in some steamed veggies or potatoes or beans, but I always feel horrible either right after or the next day, for several days. How would you recommend transitioning some cooked foods into the diet without these side effects.

My favorite way to relax is going to my secret spot in the woods and listening to the birds and the other sounds of nature while munching on wild edibles! :)

I am not sure if you have covered this in past episodes but I am curious about the best way to test for Candida overgrowth and what you feel is the most effective diet and protocol for dealing with this overgrowth?

Also, I remember in past episodes Kevin briefly mentioned transparent teeth.. I was wondering if this is caused by some sort of deficiency and how it can be treated?

Thanks so much.. you guys are truly inspiring, beautiful souls… Enjoy your blissful vacation :)

I usually relax by taking naps or playing with my 9 year old daughter.

I guess I am the only responder that can respond to adrenal exhaustion verses adreal fatigue, constant nerve impingement rises to the level of adrenal exhaustion after 6 and a half years and 5 neurosurgens offering a remidy of fusing 4 out of seven bones of my neck.Refusing this left the paper trail of proving my dissability. The years of numb arms and hands, numb meaning the thousands of needles that made meaningful sleep impossible only ended when refusing neck fusion made the dissablity proccess begin.Adrenal exhaustion made this change in tactics possible as I was told my condition could lead to worse problems.Tests showed an impinged nerve in my left forearm,I was told it went bilateral because of my bad C4, C5, and C6 in the end spinal fusion of my neck would not have fixed the problem. My rehab from my condition is through Victoras Kulvinskas mantra, remineralize and “mind your gut” with probiotics and raise that PH. My path inclueds what I got strenght from in the 1970’s Uniliver from Universal , but from where I came from I don’t mind crediting a meat sourse.I have clenses in my future so I watch yours looking to my water fast and the days of not so nice to get to where I want to be.love what you do and bring out from us.

Integrative taiji (tai chi), in the sense that taiji principles are not confined to the practice of any taiji form, but free to use in practically any life situation. For instance, the last of the 10 important points of the Yang (family) style, “seek stillness within movement”. This has also been characterized by Jesus in Thomas Gospel from the Nag Hammadi Library (translated from Aramaic by scholars & not tampered with by the political church) as “rest in motion”. Most easily applied in taking walks, which I most like to do. As much as I suffer from distractions I try not to let it get the better of me, lest I succumb (further) to oblivion. See the book, The Secret of the Golden Flower, translated by Thomas Cleary, quite a different book & much better rendering than the old popular version by Wilhelm. In it are meditation guidelines for obviating distraction towards overcoming oblivion.

To relax I enjoy sitting in my yard on a sunny day drinking mint tea from my garden. During cold days I read inside with a cup of hot tea. I dry mint to have it all year.
I recently read about an easy way to keep herbs but it is only recommended for about 2 months. You fill an ice cube tray 1/2 full, put in fresh herbs, freeze, then fill ice tray with water and freeze again. This second freezing gets all the herbs under water as they tend to float to the top of the tray. This is ideal for herbs like basil that have a high moisture and oil content. It worked nicely in a vita mixer for soup by adding the entire ice cube with basil. I will experiment with other herbs. For summer it is relaxing to pick fresh as I use things from the garden.
