Are GMO Foods Really That Dangerous? Let’s Ask These Rats… : The Renegade Health Show Episode #541

After Dr. Jameth Sheridan’s talk on soy, there were a few questions on GMOs…

Ann and I saw Jeffrey Smith talk recently at the Health Freedom Expo and we were blown away at what he had to share about the dangers of GMO foods.

Today, I share with you some of what I learned, including a shocking study done in Russia only a few years ago.

Take a look…

Your question of the day: What analogy can we give Jameth so he can diversify the “throw the baby out with the bathwater” saying? Get creative here!

My computer can’t play videos too well anymore! I miss your show!

I’m curious – were the emails sent out regarding the 30-Day-Challange to confirm that you got the applications? It’s been on my mind a lot lately.

    Thank you!!!

    Hi Kevin and Annmarie,

Thanks for answering my question! I am so excited about fermenting. My concern is that cocnuts are so expensive, and I can’t ever be sure that they are organic.

Honestly, if I could get my hands on some raw goat’s milk, I wouldn’t have any problems using it. Unfortunately, in the state of NC raw milk is illegal.

Occassionally I see some raw cheese in Whole Foods, not that I purchase it often, maybe one small block every 3-4 months. My sons love cheese, and I figure its better to treat them once in a while instead of being so strict to say no all of the time.

Somethings of course I will never ever purchase, but a little raw cheese is better than a lot of things for once in a while indulgences, like GMO soy products or raw chocolate (which really isn’t raw anyway) in my opinion.

So back to the issue, what do I use for the kefir then? Coconuts are expensive, and not that much water comes out of them when you have a family to feed. I read on the web for Donna Gate’s starter kit that you can use rice milk…would you recommend it?

I found a recipe on how to make my own. I do buy it in the carton at Trader Joes right now, and I know, I know, not the best thing in the world, but isn’t that better than cooked dairy?

I don’t have a Vitamix, and I don’t think my blender will do a great job with almond milk. The boxed almond milk has soy in it!!! I’m doing the best I can do though :)

    Love you guys!

    Hey Kev,

I thinkI asked before, but can’t be sure..why are peanuts/peanut butter bad for you? I’ve had trouble finding a direct answer. Is it because most of them are cooked? If I buy raw, organic, pb for my kids is it still bad?

    Thanks!

First it was with our water supply. Back in the 60s, we were told that adding fluoride to drinking water would solve the problem with cavities. Have you seen many dentists going out of business? Of course, we now know that sodium fluorine was a byproduct of aluminum manufacturing, so instead of these companies having to pay for disposal, they were able to find some doctors and scientists prostitutes to testify and influence our law makers.

It’s the same with genetically altered food. We’re told that by increasing the yields of these crops, we’ll be able to feed more and more people safely, despite the fact that many scientists have warned of the dangers inherent with GAFs.

Letter writing. We must make our voices heard. Keep writing your congressman or woman and tell them you’ve had enough of this. They may be more receptive, especially given the fact they are all up for re-election this November.

Don’t compost the carrots with the tops.

    Or, the old classic:

Take what you like, and leave the rest.

Or, as my grandmother used to say,

    Use your head!

Regarding GMOs, they are all dangerous. At the very least, they cause more allergic reactions to foods. At worst, organ damage.

I think it’s deliberate. They know the dangers, and they push these poisons anyway. The same people who own stock in the GMO companies also own stock in the pharma companies. When people get sickened by the GMOs and go the doctor, they are given prescription drugs, so profits are made twice.

It’s getting to the point where we need to get just about everything we eat from local sources, or our own gardens. If it is made by a big food processing company, it is probably harmful.

I just spent some time in my garden today, and I am very grateful.

I really like the interviews – lots of different views and information. I like Kevin’s interview style – he doesn’t interrupt or give his opinion on what the interviewee is saying even when Kevin disagrees with it. I also like the way sometimes a day or so after Kevin gives his opinion on what the interviewee says – for example disagreeing with the guy who said that blending destroys 90% of nutrients.

    Hey Marie 1225,

    About the peanuts,
What I have heard about peanuts is that they can have a mold/fungus called Aflatoxin on them and this can potentially be carcinogenic,
    T. Colin Campbell talks about it in ‘the China Study’ in relation to liver cancer.
There may be other reasons but that is the one I have heard,
    Hope that helps :-)

    Hi, Marie1225,
I don’t own a VitaMix either, but don’t underestimate the power of your blender. ;) I have a black and decker blender with a glass container on it and it works quite well making almond milk(probably a $20-30 blender). I think the key is to soak the almonds first, that helps soften them up. While not perfect, I use a jam strainer which I found in the local hardware store with the canning supplies to filter the almond pulp out(a couple of dollars for two in a package). It all works quite nicely. Hope this is helpful! And keep up the good work finding nutritional ways to nurish your family!
Kevin and Annmarie-Thanks for your informative and enlightening shows!
I vote for don’t throw away the “recyclables with the trash” and “don’t throw away the seeds with the compost”!

I thought some of your readers may not know the origin of the saying “don’t through out the baby with the bath water”. As North America was being settled it was common practice to heat water for a bath and then the whole family would take turns using the same bath water. The order for bathing was the oldest to the youngest. Families were usually large and so by the time you got to the baby, it would be vary difficult to see them in the dirty bath water.

The bottom line is to make sure you are aware of the consequences of your actions before you act. You could use the acronym TBA – Think Before Acting.

Jameth is clearly in fantastic shape. As far as I’m concerned, he can say it any way he wants. ;)

Kevin, I do love the interviews. But a few weeks back, I found myself getting overwhelmed and even angry at the divergence of opinions. This is more of a “me” problem than anything you need to worry about regarding the show format. I like the above reminder to “take what you like and leave the rest.” I’ll try and remember that when it’s just not time for me to hear a particularly opinion yet instead of getting overwhelmed trying to do the “right” thing (which unless I’m getting my blood tested, it’s hard to know exactly that that is, right? See, I do listen sometimes…!)

    Peace out!

p.s. Regarding the blue testicles – it came to mind that it’s perhaps interesting that an organism being damaged with toxicity might be “smart” enough to damage the reproductive system so that changes to genes, etc., would not get passed on….

I just received this email from YLO (Dr. Gary Young) what do you think?

RE: Dr. Joseph Mercola’s Recent Attack on Agave.

“I’ am very well aware of Dr. Mercola’s attack on agave. Now we know that there are different qualities of Agave just like different qualities of essential oils. So in January, I ordered Dr. Sue Chao to do a research project on the Agave at Weber State University on rats so we can see the effects on the metabolism and the liver comparing it with, honey and white sugar so we have concrete information.

    1. Beware of false claims.

    2. At this time there is no evidence to support his claims.

    3. The agave that they use in Tequila is highly concentrated which means it has been cooked at high temp. in order to get a stronger sugar base. If you
cool honey at high temp. you would get the same out come.

    4. The real question should be does the agave metabolize. (Yes it does)

    5. Does the agave spike glucose levels ( NO )

    6. Does the agave change liver enzymes function (NO)

    7. Does the agave create allergies (NO)

    8. Does the agave cause candida (NO)

    9. Does the agave create addictions (NO)

    10. Does the agaves change hormone function (NO)

    11. Does the agaves cause brain fatigue (NO)

    12. Does Agaves cause arthritis type pain (NO)

We have done more clinical research than any person I know, and high fructose corn syrup and white sugar causes changes that are seen in clinical trials.
However, I have ordered further studies to be done, so we have such evidence; and if all that I have seen proves me wrong, then you will be the first to
know. It is just too easy to get caught up in other peoples’ Agendas.

For your information if there is something bad, do you think I would give it to Jacob or Josef? (Gary’s young sons)

    I hope this helps,
    Gary Young”

    Anne Hunt,
I have eaten things in the past that I thought were healthy, only to find out that they weren’t as healthy as I thought, so the arguement that he wouldn’t give them to (whoever) doesn’t hold much water. There are a lot more people in the natural health circles that have shown that agave is not healthy. Just because one person says it is means nothing without some awfully good evidence to back it up. Until then, I would certainly be very sceptical of consuming it.

As for a different saying for Jameth, I can’t think of anything worse than throwing out a baby with it’s bathwater (worse than any other suggestions written so far). That has been a saying I’ve used for years in talking about how some Christians have discarded a lot of natural health info because it is put out by non-Christians.

I’m really looking forward to tomorrow’s show on fermentation. I keep kefir going, but it’s different than the kefir on your website–it’s pearls that grow and multiply.

For Marie1225 (comment 5)–I keep Kefir going with almond milk and it doesn’t take a Vita-mix. In the morning I take a small handful of almonds and about a cup of water and blend them and then put the almond milk (I don’t strain it) in my smoothie cup.

Then, I strain my kefir into the blender (I drain and use the kefir daily and then rinse the pearls under lukewarm water once a week). I put the kefir pearls back into the jar (I wash the jar daily), pour the fresh almond milk over them, cover the jar and put it back on my windowsill, and proceed to make my smoothie.

The next morning, my kefir is ready to go again. I do notice, though that my kefir does slow down on it’s fermentation over time. When it does, I use organic soy-milk for a day to get it going again.

    Thanks,
    Stacie

I’ve been telling all my Christian friends for years not to throw the baby out with the bathwater, because they won’t believe any of these health claims due to the new age spiritualism that comes along with it. My beliefs are strong and I am able to take what is good and leave the rest, my hope is that everyone will be open to the truth of good health and nutrition and learn to discern just what is truth.

    Love the interviews!!

I read an article this morning and wanted to share this with you: “The air, including the air in our lungs right now, is swimming in pollen. A random sample of all pollinated plants which have a significant amount of GMO organisms of that species extant will demonstrate that GMO genetics are present in their genomes already. Oceans do not deter pollen spores. How non-GMO do you think “Certified Organic” Soy is? The 12 percent Cherokee blood that flows in my veins will always be present to some extent in my posterity, whether or not my children marry Cherokees. There is no getting away from the fact that if GMO is the enemy, “we have met the enemy, and he is among us.”

Dude – love your shows, love the interviews. So glad you’re raising the huge issue with GMOs. Gotta chime in here though with one thing you said from the video …

“that’s what nature does … if there’s too much of something, something comes in and eats it”

Whoa, time-out. So here’s the deal … (if I can borrow one of my favorite Kev phrases :-) ) Nature takes what is unfit for human consumption and brings it back to the earth. If the beetles are going after the potatoes (or other crops), it’s because they lack nutrient density, the brix levels are low, the mineralization is low and it’s food for them… they’re just doing “their job” as nature intended. If the nutrient density is high, brix is high, minerals, complex sugars are high etc., their digestive systems can’t digest it, it’s not food for them and they intuitively leave it alone.

Nutrient density is the answer. This is where optimal food quality and health is heading. Check out highbrixgardens.com, http://www.nutrient-dense.info/manifesto,
or better yet, get Dr. Arden Andersen, one of the leaders in the nutrient density movement and the battle against GMOs on the list of upcoming renegagehealth.com interviewees.

Many thanks to all that you do. Love and Peace.

    Great Show Kevin :-)

However I am worry that you help to propagate misinformation about GMO technic. As you know I am a molecular biologist working with human viruses and never worked on plant genetic. However the technical tools using in plant transfection to obtain after long years of work. Now GMO is not 100% bad, but most everybody identify GMO with Monsato business. To argue if one GMO product is good or bad you have to study which gene is transfected into the plant genome and how its gene expression is regulated during the plant growth. There are a lot of great researches with non-profitable institutes to generate GMO plant enriched on vitamines or mineral deficient in one specific population depending on their environment. Plants will be use to produce drug too instead animal origine. Europe research on it of course and want to test it longer as Monsato do, before it will be used in agriculture. Genetic modification occurs every days in nature and will be selected depending on its advantage to survive. Human accelerates only this process of selection. It is evolution !
Conclusion: don’t be scare of GMO, try to get inform how each product is structured and don’t mix all GMO projects with business of Monsato, which just want to make money without any other considerations… get informed.
thank for not hating GMO technic… maybe just made by Monsato !

    Kevin,

Thank you for talking about GMO and for the great interviews.

I just want to respond to Kevin’s comment about honey and why is that not vegan.

Let me try to explain it. Honey are the bees food. When the bee keepers take away the honey, some of the bees die. No matter how careful or how small amount of the honey are taken out. There is no way to avoid killing the bees. In some cases, some unethical bee keepers take too much honey away from the bees to increase profit, kill a lot more bees. And, a recent documentary is talking about how the bees started to disappear in large amount. If you think about what bees do. They are here to pollinate our food, without them we will all be in troubles.

As a health seeker myself, I understand that how we have already sacrificed some of the food we like for our health. For something that is so tasty and good for you is hard to give up.

However, I believe that self healing is an act of love. We love ourselves and so we sacrifice some of the food we like. If we extend this love to all creatures, maybe we can choose another sweetener to replace honey. No one can die without suffering. We don’t want any other creatures to suffer, just like we don’t want ourselves to suffer too.

    Love to you all!

The saying “Don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater” doesn’t have anything to do with not being able to see the last child because his siblings used the same water and he’s not visible and therefore susceptible to getting tossed. That would connote a lack of paying attention to detail, not looking at what you are doing, etc. The saying means, of course, don’t throw out all advice from one person just because you don’t agree with one or two things he said, or don’t NOT go to the beach just because you once were bit by a crab while there.

How about “Don’t throw the sponge out with the sinkwater”???
