Thanks to a viewer, Pamme, I have a report that I want to share with you about the risk of brain tumors and cell phones…

A 13 country Interphone study will be coming out soon and may sway the media into thinking that cell phones don’t cause significant increased risk of brain tumors… or even worse… that they PREVENT tumors.

This is big news, but there’s group that thinks the study was poorly (understated) done.

I also review Susun Weed’s book “Healing Wise”.

Take a look and check it out…

Your question of the day: Where do you fall in your thinking… Scientific Tradition, Heroic Tradition, Wise Woman Tradition?

Kevin Gianni

Kevin Gianni is a health author, activist and blogger. He started seriously researching personal and preventative natural health therapies in 2002 when he was struck with the reality that cancer ran deep in his family and if he didn’t change the way he was living — he might go down that same path. Since then, he’s written and edited 6 books on the subject of natural health, diet and fitness. During this time, he’s constantly been humbled by what experts claim they know and what actually is true. This has led him to experiment with many diets and protocols — including vegan, raw food, fasting, medical treatments and more — to find out what is myth and what really works in the real world.

Kevin has also traveled around the world searching for the best protocols, foods, medicines and clinics around and bringing them to the readers of his blog — which is one of the most widely read natural health blogs in the world with hundreds of thousands of visitors a month from over 150 countries around the world.

    a mix of heroic/wise woman

  2. ted says:

    this video made me laugh
    funny people u 2 are
    “slow down”
    thanks for the info!

  3. I am the wise woman. I believe that the body always speaks to us.

  4. kate says:

    I’d have to say heroic.

  5. Catherine says:

I am definitely in the heroic tradition. It is so good to be reminded that we can always be in a nurturing state, not looking at what is wrong with ourselves and how we can fix it. I needed this reminder today. Thank you

  6. Misti Young says:

Its hard to say without more information, but it sounds like I am leaning more towards the “wise woman” category-not that I feel O so wize…LOL But I really am working more towards RETRAINING myself to PROPERLY perceive the signals from my body and listening to my intuition more. It makes sense, really. Who should know the answers to the questions I have about my body/my life better than me? (or should that be myself or I ??)Not a wise woman in grammar, obviously!
BTW-I have to say, Jonny 5’s fur coat is gorgeous. He really seems healthy on the diet you provide for him.
Thanks for your labor of love, wishing you a restful and joyous weekend.

  7. Chris says:

Thank you for sharing Susan Weeds book. A friend just gave me her book on pregnancy yesterday which is btw a great book too. I like the way she presents the information. I would say I tendancy toward wisewoman but also have the scientific part. The body knows and no one knows better than if you know how to listen to your bodys signals.

  8. Sharon says:

At this point Wise Woman but that took a while. I think before you can reach that stage you NEED to be in the Heroic stage. Nourishing a toxic body without getting the crud out is putting the organs in a constant state of stress. Maybe when the book was written a person could skip that stage though since the world was considerably cleaner.

Love your description of the cover and the chat with J5. Very funny show today!

And whoever’s complaining about the sound quality–join the Inner Circle and get the real goods!

  9. Lee says:

Check out this website. YOu can click on 900 CATEGORIES of information on the right side.

Most of the studies that say cell phones were safe were paid for by cell phone companies.

  10. Corrinne says:

I’d have to go with the wise woman tradition as I try to learn how to stay healthy and not have to deal with illness.

  11. Max Lambert says:

I can relate to the wise woman theory. I always am aware of how what I’m eating is affecting my body. I’ve done vegan and raw and no doubt, I felt great during these spurts. However, I have always fallen off the wagon. Although I can hear my body telling me what is nourishment and what isn’t, I don’t always respond. I’m having a hard time finding a nice balance.

  12. Dena says:

I must say that I have always believed in the way of the Wise Woman, even when completely surrounded by those the acted Gestapo about their Scientific Way. I appreciate your humor today. Thank you. Also, thank you for the info about the cell phone study, and contra paper. I am so glad to have gotten to the place in my life where I surround myself with others who live consciously.

  13. Anyone else having trouble with the innercircle membership. I’ve had an ongoing
problem and can’t access it. I can’t even
access it to tell them I have a problem.
What’s up? Someone help me. Thanks

  14. Betoman says:

    Nurish! … in every way

  15. Frances says:

It depends on the issue at hand. I think the scientific is the “short-term”, quick-fix, so if I’m in real pain or freaked out, I’ll go for it.
The hero tradition is longer-term, and useful for an outside perspective.
The wise-woman is longest term and much more powerful. I am working towards this as I learn more. That’s the thing, the wise-woman requires one to take responsibility for educating oneself and listening to that inner voice ( that takes practice)…. AND for recognizing the way the mind works on the body. Only when I got concerned about my teeth on the raw diet did I begin to experience teeth sensativiity. Ignorance is both hell and bliss.

I LOVED the ending to this vlog. Your cat is hilarious

  16. Chel says:

loved the ending so freakin much!!!!!!

  17. Deanna says:

I’d have to say wise women. I’ve always been better at figuring out how to fix what ever was bothering me by listening to my intuitions mixed with knowledge and understanding. The few times I have gone to naturopaths I still had to solve my own problem. YAH always leads me if I am attentive.

  18. Cindy in Marin says:

I would say Wise Woman/Heroic. I discovered Susun Weed a couple of months ago and enjoy her books and You Tube shows. I am a nettle fan now!

Cute little ending to your show.

Hope we can reconnect before you leave town!

  19. bethany says:

J-5 is a cool cat! Thanks for sharing him with us!! (I have 7 housecats)

  20. Rachel says:

I lost the sound on my computer…is there a website with this info?

  21. I’d have to say that although I’m working more on herooic and feel wise women ways are more natural and always try to listen to my body.

  22. Michael T. says:

I like to have the best of all three traditions. Science is helpful because it is always discovering new things. But some of those new things may be harmful, and the hero can question these new inventions and offer better alternatives. Nourishing is wonderful, but I believe should be balanced by occasional cleansing.

Regarding cell phone dangers, I would not rely on any mainstream media, as they are deeply influenced by the corporations which pay for advertising. The media will the the last ones to acknowledge dangers of cell phones, or anything else that is a big profit center for the corporations.

The studies are skewed by only covering people for a short time. Cancer typically takes 10 years or more to develop, so any study following people for less than 10 years is not worth much.

There is a lot of good information about cell phones at Dr. Mercola’s website.

Also, remember that cordless phones are just about as dangerous as cell phones. The only safe phones are the ones that are plugged into the wall.

    Michael T.

  23. crow says:

    Aah, I am wise woman.

  24. junglegirl says:

Brilliant interview with Gianni 5! So great when we listen to the animals, yay!

I’m between heroic and wise woman in my path.

  25. june2 says:

When my father was diagnosed with cancer they also found 12 ! lesions on the cell phone side of his brain. That doesn’t sound like a coincidence to me.

I’ve always avoided getting one, and have resisted temptation so far. It’s challenging because you’ve got to be super organized to make it all happen without a cell, but it’s totally do-able.

  26. rose says:

did you see the raw cooked debate between susan weed and brigitte mars on youtube? ooh la la!

  27. Didiydi says:

What an amaaazing show! I was laughing so hard by the end listening to your dialogue with your cat, hilarious!
Thank you a lot for this info, it clarified so much for me. My path towards health has been moving from scientific and doctors and empowering myself through learning and listening to my body. I learned that when the body is not following the diet, there is always a good reason behind it, either on physical or emotional level.
I am still sort of in heroic mode, doing the occasional cleansing, but I also eat whatever body wants and listen to what it tells me. Me and my body are now working in synergy, and it is moving towards raw on its own pace and naturally. I didn’t know I am such a wise woman, lol!

  28. Kris says:

I’m so happy to see you review Susun Weed’s book. She is an amazing resource! I think all of her other books are just great too–they are my first go-to source when I’m looking for health info. Keep up the great work, guys (especially Jonny 5)!

  29. Grace says:

I am wise woman who has been telling me for a long while that I don’t need to be 100% anything to be healthy and beautiful ; to strive for some kind of ‘ideal’ (as defined by others) is detrimental to my being. I choose the middle path because logic, common sense, as well as the inner voice tell me there is no such thing as a ‘perfect’ prescription for life. Life is change. . .the only constant. As my experiences unfold and change, so will my ideas and my reality. I no longer feel guilty about eating cooked foods–plant based, whole foods. You have no idea what kind of mental abuse I’ve put myself through to come to the realization that there is nothing wrong with boiled/steamed/sauteed vegetables or whole grain brown rice and beans. I’ve learned the hard way that when everything is reduced to food and diet in both thought and action at the exclusion of everything else, one can become quite dogmatic and rigid which doesn’t foster any kind of compassion for oneself or others. Health goes out the door as well, regardless of how much raw you’re eating. Health ‘experts’ or ‘gurus’ just don’t have the same appeal they used to whether they reside in the raw, macrobiotic, or any other food philosophy camp. I listen to my body which leads me to information I may need but when someone tells me their way is THE WAY to health or enlightenment, I smile a little smile and thank wise woman for helping me see through the dogma.
I toast to periodic cleansing, good quality wholesome foods, endless ways and approaches to healing, laughter, beauty, poetry, Nature. . .
As for cell phones, I’ve never owned one and don’t intend to, not because of the risk involved, but because I’m not drawn to them in anyway. Most people who use them, especially the young, have fallen into the same marketing traps we all fall into from time to time–the idea we ‘need’ these things to live our lives. It’s just another gadget distracting us from the lives we are meant to live.

  30. Courtney says:

I believe that cell phones are evil! The last time I had one (and only used it a couple of times)it was the size of a small child. I never had the urge to have or need one. I too believe that you have to be very organized to live without one, but it is most definitely doo-able!!!

As far as your question of the day goes, I think I am an equal mix to all the above. I think I may lean more towards the scientific-tradition way of thinking and therefore it brings out my Heroic thinking patterns and/or motivations. I have always been one to have logical proof behind the given information before I speak my mind or preach about my passion. I love to do obsessive research; it’s rewarding, uplifting, empowering and I love that I remain humble about it while the rest remains ignorant! (none of us, though; hehe)

I hope that wasen’t too off topic 😉

  31. Ahntara says:

As far as cell-phone radiation or, as mentioned, cordless phone (or any other portable, close-body electronic, like IPods & MP3 players) you can always neuter the danger by using products which offset the EMF field they produc. Check out

I luvs me some science, but am so adverse to Allopathic Medicine because of the influence of Big Pharma. They’ve corrupted the whole thing. Still, it’s useful when you need surgery, have orthopeadic issues or heart trouble.

The Heroic tradition seems to work well with our current Capitalistic culture. Makes sense to seek out and pay someone else.

The Wise woman thing takes Time. You have to be wise, or become wise. I don’t think that’s automatic for everyone, although it may be for some. I like that I have the Scientific IF I need it, can do Heroic and am working towards Wise Woman.

  32. Dominic says:

    Heroic/Wise woman

  33. Page says:

I feel that I have gone from scientific to wise woman. I grew up in a medical household, dad was a physician, mom was an R.N. Both of them died in their 70’s, dad from cancer, mom from an autoimmune disorder. They ate a lot of dairy, red meat, etc. Plus, dad had anger issues and mom did not know how to release stress. She moved in with with us for the last two years of her life. I got her meditating and eating more raw foods, large green salads, etc. We were able to get her off of most of her medications, only she came to us too late. We could not reverse 74 years of SAD in just two. For myself, I have learned to listen to my body. It tells me everything it needs to stay healthy.

Jonny 5 seems to have wonderful personality. I have conversations with my cat daily.

  34. PE says:

Grace said it all, of course with grace. As for cellphones/mobiles, pity the poor sufferers who fell victim to The Supergluer and must now go about with the thing stuck to their ear! I see them daily on campus, doing that ungainly duckwalk with the deadly EarThing sucking at the brain, and just wish I knew the solvent to free their arms and ears.
Maybe a chant: Every second with that Thing, you lose touch with Earth! Forget David Wolfe and Earth Shoes, remove it and the EyeScreen and you’ll be grounded again!

  35. Irondoll says:

I loved the interview with Jonny-5!

  36. Liliane says:

I would say I’m a mix of the 3.Love seeing Johnny 5. I have 3 cats. Once had 18 cats + a few that came and went. A few were mine, a few were occasional visitors and the majority were ferals. Had many of them spayed and neutered. That was my community service.

    Have a beautiful week-end. 🙂

  37. Marla says:

This is off the subject, but I would love for you to do some shows with Dr. David Jubb about nutrition, cleansing, and about his LifeColloid Live Probiotics.

  38. Marty says:

Kevin, That was sooo funny!! Johnny 5 was so cute. And so were you!! I am glad he liked his home state. 🙂
I love Susan Weed. I have her book and love herbs and healing plants. I began using herbs when my son was 2 years old, for him and me. He is now 22 years old, healthy and big!
I think I am in hero and moving to wise woman, because I still need a lot of detoxing. I am also nourishing because I am about 80% raw.
Thank you for your show. I am so glad you and Annmarie bring us all these episodes of useful and healthy info.
P.S. I also love James Green’s books, especially The Male Herbal. Check it out. He has a loving and gentle philosophy.

  39. Garrett says:

Johnny-5 stole the show with a PURRRRfect ending! 😉

I started out in life and grew up with the scientific method.

Eventually, I migrated away from that and embraced the heroic.

Now, there is a Wise-Old-Woman inside who guides me daily. Oddly, she tells me to have a 3-day fast and a good cleanse every now and then too!

  40. jes says:

My mom and I are reading that book now. It is powerful! we’re both heroic/wisewomen

and I feel I’m a little something else too.

  41. Kym Hutcheon says:

I own a cell phone but hardly ever use it. Can’t live with it; can’t live without it.

I’d love to see a show on technologies such as Barefoot Connections, Q-link, etc.

  42. sherry says:

    wisewomam, I don’t have a cell phone.

    I use email. I don’t like phones.

  43. Patrina says:

Rose, thank you sooo much for posting that debate between Susun and Veronica on youtube. Susun is way off with her facts in that debate…. for example she says cooked potato has more Vitamin C than raw, and it is totally opposite because I checked it out on the nutrient tables of the USDA ( If you check out a basic 100g portion of a raw potato against a 100g portion of Cooked (baked) potato you’ll find that that a cooked potato has barely half the Vitamin C content.

  44. I’m a Wise Woman all the way.

I don’t actually talk much on my cell phone. But I send text messages. Is there a risk of thumb cancer? :-/

I think you need to bring Jonny 5 & The Kale Whale to Michigan. It doesn’t look like you’ve been here. 🙂

  45. Ruth Shivani says:

Loved talk by viktora. have I missed one by gabrile cousens? what was the link? if there was one? thanks

  46. Katie says:

Awesome video…Loved it… and LOVE Johnny 5 in there too 🙂 You guys are hilarious…dont ever change!!!

  47. Pamme says:

    You’re cat is rad!

  48. Suzanne says:

The only reason I would ever have allopathic treatment would be if I was in an accident and needed to be patched up.Other than that I m a mixture of wise and heroic,I let my intuition guide me.Despite being on the raw diet I realize being an energy healer that toxic thoughts and feelings can be just as harmful as toxic food.Mind body and spirit must be balanced.
Have you ever tried giving Jonnie 5 pet rescue remedy?(its a flower essense) It would help him feel more stable whilst traveling 😉

  49. Beth says:

Not sure where I fall in the 3 traditions, but I would like to be within the Wise Woman tradition.
Think I will see if the local library has Susun Weed’s book. Sounds interesting.

By the way, my husband loves watching Johnny5. He is a “Cat Whisperer” and loves to stop and talk / pat all of the cats we see in our travels.

  50. Amanda says:

Kevin! Tell us where you got your “Nutrition” t-shirt!!

  51. Laura Fox says:

wise woman. she encompasses all. 🙂

  52. lorrwill says:

Johnny 5 tradition. 🙂 Oops. I mean, Wise Woman. I shun doctors and my health is better for it. I would partner with a healer if their were such a thing anymore.

  53. Carol Lani Johnson says:

Wise woman. I have been for most of my 58 yrs. Always go the least invasive first. I have gotten regular lymphatic massage & Network chiropractic for the last 10-15 yrs, & feel it keeps me balanced. Otherwise fresh food, thought focused in love, sunshine, movement, connection to Spirit. Used Susun’s book, The Menopausal Years, several years ago before, during, after menopause – excellent.I recently started the GREEN stinging nettle infusions Susun recommends & found out everyone else I know who is knowlegable has been making them for years! My raw goddess friend is going to show me how to forage them.
Good source of minerals & vitamins. One friend told me she gives comfrey infusion to her hubby when she wants to be sure of some lovin the next morning, if you know what I mean…

  54. Carol Lani Johnson says:

Correction: She gives him oatstraw infusion to her husband.

  55. Mary says:

Love SUSAN WEED!! – read her first book years ago re: Menopause. Terrific and most helpful!
At 64 yrs. old and very Raw, I’m grateful for her, all other author/healers and you 2 – You are delightful!! oxox 🙂

  56. alice says:

Samsung Impression is the phone with the lowest radiation, also, I have an ear piece that is an air hose, that cuts down on radiation to the brain significantly. Johnny 5 too cute!!!
