AquaZae Water Bodywork in Flagstaff, Arizona – The Renegade Health Show Episode #255

I’m not much for bodywork…

In fact when we were told we had an appointment set up at Mountain Waves Healing Arts Center in Flagstaff, Arizona for a bodywork session, I told Ann I wanted to skip it. I had too much work to do… :-)

But, we had a commitment and went to try a water therapy called AquaZae.

I’ll let you take a look to see what I thought of it…

Your question of the day: Have you seen or heard of anything like AquaZae?

He’s doing Watsu and calling it by another name. Harold Dull created Watsu in California. He’s moves and holding positions are Watsu and his speil is Watsu. Why is this guy selling it like he invented it?

I’ve never heard of AquaZae but it sure looks amazing! It is quite apparent that it was a good experience for you. Makes me want to get on a plane and fly to Flagstaff…

The best body work I’ve ever had was Swedish Massage. I could have stayed on that table all day!! Raindrop Technique with Young Living Essential Oils runs a close second.

Back in 2003 when I began to study to become a raw chef at Harbin Hot Springs,CA, through Living Light Culinary Arts Institute, I went for a session of a type of Japanese water therapy called Watsu® (water shiatsu)
An aquatic massage which was developed at Harbin – combines stretches of Zen Shiatsu and the element of water to an extraordinary experience. Being gently floated and stretched in a warm pool can be deeply touching and relaxing. This was a wonderful relaxing and meditative experience.

Isn’t it the best!!! I have several friend who teach Watsu (Water Shiatsu) and water dance which are similar and incredible.

As a bodywork practitioner I highly recommend it – you’ll float through the rest of the day.

Tai Chi has been the closest thing to AquaZae that I have come across. This is a pretty cool therapy… I really appreciate you sharing this with us!

I should mention that when I was a kid I would do something very similar to this in a pool with my little brother. We would wait until it was dusk or sun set, go into a pool, and trust each other enough to fling each other around gently.

Although this is obviously not AquaZae (water was below body temperature, we were in a chlorinated pool, and it wasn’t intended to be 100% therapeutic), my brother and I really did connect on some level.

I can only imagine what this felt like! But I’m guessing it’s the type of thing where words can’t describe the experience. Hopefully I can try this out sometime.

Thanks again for sharing this. What an awesome thing!

      Hey Kevin,

It looks a lot like Watsu, a water massage developed at Harbin Hot Springs in northern California many years ago. I would not be surprised if Paul were originally trained in Watsu, and then developed Aquazae from that foundation.

Check out harbin.org for more information about watsu. Harbin is about two hours drive north of San Francisco. I hope you get a chance to experience it. The only problem is, you can’t do a show at Harbin, because it is clothing optional!

Actually, there is a watsu school at Harbin where bathing suits are worn, so you could do a show from that part.

I used to live in that area, and have had many watsu sessions at Harbin. They are truly wonderful, very much like being back in the womb, as you said.

The other wonderful thing about Harbin is that the pools are outside, and there are trees and sunlight and breezes and a very natural setting. The water is naturally hot because there is a hot spring nearby.

Thanks for bringing back some wonderful memories.

      Michael

I have been in a flotation tank in the past.
I was alone floating in shallow salt water, completely encased in this dark tank for about an hour. It really is like going back to the womb. Very healing and primordial experience.
Nice to see you let yourself go Kevin and receive support on a very basic level in that water. You too Marie.

Yes, I’ve done something that looks the same. It’s called Watsu. My friend in Victoria does this: http://www.viwatsu.com I think is her website. Very relaxing and gets rid of body pain, even quite severe pain like fibromyalgia can be helped. Treatments are quite long lasting. Hmmmm, just thinking about it makes me want to book an appointment!

I had a Aquabalancing session once.
I actually also had a nose clip on and as more and more relaxation happened the person working with me moved my body more and more and longer and longer “under” water.
Wow, Kevin I agree it was as being back in the womb. I felt like I could stay extremely long under water without problems and did not want to surface any more and the body felt so light and hold and carried – really back in mom’s womb :)

Wow!The relaxation you must have felt was so visible! Kevin your tone and mannerisms from before the treatment and then after were very different. You were much more laid back and calm. It is very obvious that this is an excellent method!

As for the question of the day… In Budapest, Hungary (well all over hungary actually), they have many healing, Turkish style, spas and baths. The water comes from fresh underwater springs and is very healing, and chock full of minerals. The treatments that they have there are not so focused on the spiritual aspect, but more so on physical healing. In hungary “unconventional” healing methods are still highly regarded and encouraged, to a certain extent, sadly it is becoming more americanized. But for hungarian citizens, that suffer from something which water therapy could help manage, their physician can write them a persciption to attend these baths and receive care from specialized water therapists. There is still a cost involved I believe, but it is minimal and a fraction of the cost of what other users pay (like tourists etc…).There are indoor and open air pools, and some that are open until 4 am a few days of the week. Even if you are not seeking physical therapy, the baths are very enjoyable and very theraputic. And for the time being Hungary is still relatively affordable, so if anyone is planning a trip to europe, I would recommend a stop off in Hungary.

We used to play a game like this when we were kids… We would enter the ocean at night when it was supremely calm and take each other for “star walks”. The feeling is like floating in space when you look up at the night sky, suspended by love. In the beginning my friends were freaked out by their fear of sharks. Then they tried it and found bliss.

sounds like everybody has covered Watsu and Harbin, so i’ll just echo that you should definitely hit up Harbin Hot Springs when you get to California. it’s clothing optional, but the silent pools are pretty phenominal and meditative. it’s a very healing, magical place. and you can wear clothes if you want to. also, they have organic salads. ;)

watching you surrender to the experience brought tears to my eyes. you are beautiful souls.

We experienced somtthing like AquaZae when on vacation in Atlantis in the Bahamas. They had a much bigger salt water hot tub with relaxation equipment built into the tub such as a bed of stainless steel rollers that you lay on in the water, foot and leg massage stations, etc. The tup can hold about 20 people and they had the hours split between doing your own thing or have a session with a trainer. It was so relaxing that we did about 30 minutes every day for 7 days.

Watsu in the warm ponds on the Big Island of Hawaii has been one experience of bodywork in water for me. K & AM, I encourage you to get more bodywork! All kinds are divine! Take your experience in the water to the table; trust, relax, breathe–participate. You will experience nirvana if you let yourself. Bodywork is one of the best preventive and corrective healings on the planet for all levels of being: physical, mental, emotional, spiritual. Thanks for featuring bodywork as one way to change the health of the world.

Like many of the above viewers, I have seen this done when I visted Harbin Hot Springs. I have never experienced it, and like Kevin, I didn’t really appreciate it much when I was there and didn’t feel like I wanted to do that type of thing. Now, after watching this video, and hearing your comments, I’d like to try it.
Can’t begin to tell you how much I love watching you and Ann Marie show us all the adventures you are having on your RV trip. I look forward to each episode and it is almost like being there with you! Thanks so much for all you do!

There are at least two or three water therapies that I am aware of beside that of AquaZae, that being the Samadi tank which works on the princple of sensory depravation in which you are emersed in a super saturated salt water solution which keeps you afloat and you are inclosed in a sound and light proof chamber and after a few moments in there you will begin to dream while you are totally awake because when the body’s senses are shut off from sensory perceptions that of taste, smell, touch, sight, and sound, then the brain begins to go in to an alpha wave state much like when you are asleep, only you are awake. The Germans used to use them on prisoners as part of a brain washing, or reprograming technique. The other two are Watsu, and a kind of high powered water jet message therapy,(I don’t remember the name of) where you lay on your stomach and they cover you with some type of water proof blanket and these presure hoses spray pulses of water up and down the length of your entire body. Sort of like being in a car wash only better.

      Hi Kevin and Ann,

Its great what you guys do. Thank you so much.

I was trained as a Watsu Practitioner in 1998 in San Diego. What Paul is sharing here is the exact same, I am surprised he is calling it by another name. It is a wonderful treatment, as is waterdance… similar but underwater at times. Other people said to look up Watsu and Harold Dull, and Harbin Hot Springs.

I loved how people would go back into the womb in the treatments.

      thanks for sharing your trip.
      Eric
