Alright, alright! We’re back and this week we’ll have some great clips and episodes from our little tour of Honduras.
This first one is a show where Wendy Green shows us two variations of the ashtanga yoga sun salutations.
Take a look (Yes, I know… I’m working on my flexibility!!!)
Your question of the day: What type of yoga do you like and have you practiced it recently?

I have never really gotten into yoga, I tried 2-3 times but it was always in this little closed room and didn’t do much for me mentally even if I was getting a good stretch.
I think the scenery and being in nature there alone would inspire me to try it again!!

Great show! My favorite yoga is Bikram Hot Yoga, but, living in midwestern PA, there is NO heated studio here. So, now, my favorite yoga is The Five Tibetans. And although my goal is to practice them daily., I am averaging 4x’s weekly.
Please, send some sunshine. We are fading away up here in the north!

I have practiced the warm room yoga (don’t rememeber the name) and few days ago I tried the Kundalini, very different,I love both.
Currently, I am only doing some stretching at home but want to get back into a regular daily routine.
Welcome back guys!!

I am new to yoga, so I am working on my Crunch Beginner’s Yoga. It is really NOT as easy as it looks! :-p But I love it!

I am practicing Subramanya yoga and take 3 classes a week of l and a half hour each.
I have been enjoying this practice for 6 months and already find such a difference in my flexibility, overall feelings of well being, strenght and concentration.
Recommend it for all ages as there are always alternate poses for all levels of abilities.
Your sun salutation appears to be the same as ours and a great warm up to start the practice.

Good to see you both back and relaxed! The background where you were doing the yoga looked soooo lush. I had a bad experience with yoga when I was heavy but I tried these with you and even at my age I was able to do them. I actually felt good doing the breathing. I have to watch out for my ski injured knee though. I may look into getting a DVD and add yoga too my exercise regime.

I used to do yoga with a DVD. Now I’m working on getting back in shape first with cardio workouts. I plan on adding yoga to my health plan very soon. Thanks for the demonstration.
And as a fellow Steeler’s fan myself!!! Yeah!!! Big congratulations! Awesome game!

I’ve been wanting to start doing yoga for a long time.
But there are so many different types, that i really don’t know where to start. Anyone have a good website that shows the differences between the different types.
Any recommendations? I have a bikram yoga and a hatha yoga close by.
btw, why is yoga so expensive!!!

I love Kundaline yoga but haven’t found a studio in State College, Pa. area. So I am doing Tri-Yoga. Check out this gentle yoga that emphasizes breath, meditation, and flows.

I practice Vinyasa Yoga as taught by Baron Baptiste and Shiva Rea. I think it originally came from Hatha Yoga I try to practice everyday and if I don’t have time to do much on certain days, I just do a few rounds of Sun Salutations A & B + the Five Tibetans. I now have been practicing for over 2 years and I love it. The benefits given by yoga are so wonderful.

I work out 6 days a week with Namaste on Fit TV and absolutely love it. I am not familiar with all types of yoga but think it is Hatha yoga. I feel SO good after the half hour workout. I am also doing a shoulder stand at least once, usually more, a day because it is suppose to help so many things including stimulating the thyroid. Already I think I am seeing benefits with my low thyroid. Yoga is wonderful.

BIKRAM all the way, baby!!!! I’m doing the 60 day challenge and WOW what a huge improvement it has made with my knee problem! I thought I would need surgery, but it looks like it won’t be necessary now. I HIGHLY recommend this type of yoga. It may seem impossible to some people at first (as it did for me) but daily practice helps you get in the groove and before you know it you’ll be hooked.
K&A, still hoping to see you here in Austin. We had a potluck at Dr. Ritamarie Loscalzo’s on Saturday. Incredible group of people! We’ll show you a good time!

Wow guys! You bring back my roots to me. I practiced Ashtanga Yoga with Beryl Bender before she published and startd teaching for the NY Road Runners Club. This goes back 21 years when I was pregnant with my first child. A group of women, some pregnant, some not all practiced in my empty livingroom. I don’t do full series anymore; my love is triathalons, but when I do a few session, I always feel new muscles. Keep up your inspiring work; you are a dynamic couple!

I love Kundalini yoga, and the Tibetan rites…and the Steelers rule!!

I don’t practice yoga. I never learned and I haven’t been successful in the past trying to follow physical things on DVD. After I manifest a new place to live, I’ll look into it – looks like a lot of fun!

I’m not into yoga. I’ve tried a few different kinds and just never found it to be beneficial in any way whatsoever.

Bikram Yoga! Started with it over 20 years ago when Bikram’s first book and the beautiful video by Raquel Welch came out. Have done other kinds of yoga too – power yoga, Kundalini – find them very enjoyable, but always come home to Bikram’s amazing sequence. It’s cold here in Oklahoma in the winter, and I can’t always get my room as hot as recommended, so I put on sweats and crank up the space heater. Currently practicing Bikram’s 3 to 4 times a week, doing resistance training (with the Steel-Bow and Isoworker) and kettlebells on the other days.

I’ve never done yoga and don’t believe that I’m very flexible. Is it to exercise the inside and outside of the body? I didn’t know it was for your inner systems too. See that–you teach me something new all the time! I didn’t know anything about it. It’s good to learn a little something about so many different things that you are into. Thank you Kevin and Annmarie. Love, CINDY R.

I recently committed to a full year of bikram yoga with the studio here in Portland, Maine. Come check it out! Their website is http://mainebikramyoga.com/ …anyway, i find it is the most challenging and most detoxifying yoga i’ve ever tried. Also, living in this freezing climate, it feels so awesome to raise your body temperature so high! It’s hard to explain how good it feels after class… i have been falling asleep at the end of class the past couple of times… it is that relaxing!
my schedule is very busy, so i wasn’t able to go for nine days in a row last week, but then was able to go friday and saturday, and friday was ten times more challenging than saturday – saturday’s class felt amazing!!

Kevin -
You look so much more at peace there doing yoga. It was even relaxing to watch your class. I’ve been doing different types of Yoga (Ashtanga, Bikram, and Iyengar and Viniyoga) for several years, (2 or 3 times a week). Ashtanga is my favorite right now since I don’t have as much access to the Bikram (heat room)as I would like.
However, I’ve gotten away from it during the holidays and because of the New Year back-to- work crunch, but plan to return to it real soon. Here in Austin, TX we have a tradition going on for 7 or 8 years now. Each year on Labor Day the city has “Free” yoga classes in just about ALL of the studios and outside in the parks. On that day you can attend as many classes as you want and try different styles & teachers. They start as early as sunrise (6am) and go late into the evening. There is even a nude yoga class! That’s probably one I wont’ be trying anytime soon.

Hey Kevin and Annemarie,
Looks like you guys had a great trip!
I’ve been practicing Prasara yoga by Scott Sonnon for about one year, and absolutely love it. I’ve dabbled in Ashtanga and Bikram yoga in the past, but have really found something I can identify with in Prasara.
I practice Prasara several times a week, sometimes daily – either during or after strength training sessions, before bed, or on low intensity training days.
Be strong and be well.

OK..after you all get done with your yoga, post how you feel about the intro to the show? We wanna know.Maybe it might make a difference and we could have a nice calm opening to such a great program.I am pulling for these two awesome people to kick it up a notch, like everything else they are doing, and have the show be the greatest thing since raw food began!

I had a great teacher, Sandy Carmellini, who taught me Iyengar Style. The studio I went to also taught Bikram, I tried it, but really can’t stand extreme temperatures.
I love Yoga, especially in place of weight training!

I love Bikram yoga. I practiced this morning and I have a mini-goal of going every day in February. I love the heat and it feels so good to sweat like crazy.

Whoah! What happened to the audio man? I had the speakers turned way up because I could barely hear Ms. Wendy, then as soon as the yoga started the sound went through the roof. My wife asked if someone got shot, haha.
Anyway, that was really cool. Honduras is a beautiful, beautiful place.

Hi Kevin,
Your trip looks great. Here in Portland Oregon we could need some heat and sun. However I didn’t have any yoga program but just streching excices beside my intensive cycling training. Which program in DVD would you choice to begin with yoga ?

Hi Kevin,
Greetings! Way to go with yoga. I am all for
it. As a yoga therapist i teach Dr. Gitananda
Yoga and Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation)which
has many variations i prefer without taking
a pause and further i prefer to do it in
original style lazily stretching each
movement rather than military style of doing it very fast.
With warm wishes
Sudhakar

I’m practicing with Natasha Rizopolous’ Yoga Step by Step DVDs, which are brilliant for beginners and those returning to yoga (like me.) I believe she teaches Iyengar style yoga. I’ll probably branch out into classes after I get stronger. The yoga studio that’s closest to me teaches a couple of different hot yoga styles and I’m very curious. Yoga energizes me! When I practice in the morning, I feel good all day.

Your trip sounds like it’s been incredible! It’s funny how we don’t even realize how tense our bodies are and how busy our mind is until we U-N-W-I-N-D. Yoga is soooo wonderful! I can’t believe it took me so long to start. I began practicing yoga at the Sivananda center last year – the people are so pure and inspiring. I also go to Satsang with them twice a week. Recently I attended a weekend yoga retreat with the Sivananda yogis which was one of the best things I’ve ever experienced! It is helping with my evolutionary growth on every level. I’d also like to try Bikram Yoga but there are no centers where I live.
5:27 pm on February 4th, 2009
I do a combination of Ashtanga and Vinyasa at my gym once a week, and at home other days. I would love to find a place to do Bikram – especially during the winter months!

Practising yoga in a place as you did at a retreat is a great way to get in to it. No distractions that home might have.
I have practised various styles but I love kundalini yoga. I have been practising kundalini yoga for 4 years. Started practising everyday after noticing how incredible I feel doing it and then decided to teach it.

Kevin,
I’m thrilled you’ve found Astanga Yoga. The primary series is a great place for beginning yoga -especially for young, fit people. You’ll learn all the basics and begin to acess the inner body and an inner awareness that kindles your already bright spirit. I started with Astanga years ago and over the years my practice has evolved to be a very personal expression of movement as meditation.
With all the expressions of hatha yoga available today in the USA, I’ve found that once you find the right teacher you’ll reap the benefits no matter the style.
A great teacher is able to orchestrate a class in a way to meet the needs of all the students -no matter the level. So, find a teacher you trust, one who studies and learns, one who understands anatomy and energy, and yoga will be with you for many years to come.
