We’ve been getting a lot of questions about oil pulling lately, so I figured I needed to address it…
It’s not something that I do, but I’ve heard some interesting stories from some inner circle members that are praising it.
How do you do it? What does oil pulling do?

I do oil pulling every morning, using coconut oil or hemp oil. I have no idea whether it pulls any toxins out of my body, but my teeth are healthier and whiter than they have ever been. They are REALLY white.
I also use tooth soap, which I love, but the really “sparkling” whiteness only happened after I started doing the oil pulling along with using the tooth soap.
My dentist is very impressed, as I am in my late 60s, and people my age often have very discolored teeth.
Oil pulling is definitely something I intend to keep doing…along with using tooth soap. No dental problems for this raw foodist!

Yes, I am doing oil pulling with coconut oil for about 20 minutes after AM shower and neti pot nasal irrigation. Only problem, have trouble keeping mouth moving because my mind moves on. Read “Oil Pulling Therapy: Detoxifying and Healing the Body Through Oral Cleansing” by Bruce Fife, who has written several coconut oil books. Gave a copy of Oil Pulling to my dentist. I have started using Tooth Soap….not sure what I think of it yet?????
Keep up the great work K & A.

I just heard about the oil pulling on Sunday. So I started Monday morning, guess what, my teeth are whiter already, today was my second day doing it. I didn’t know that this was going to happen. I am amazed.
Can there be any side effect to it?

Hi Kevin,
Really impressed with your answers about restoring intuition by getting back to focusing on whole foods. Curious…would you consider Ezekiel Bread (frozen bread you can by at the health food store based on “whole” sprouted grains) a whole food?
Never heard of the Oil pulling ’til I watched this clip…something new to consider trying down the line. Received Tooth soap last week and have begun using it. Too early to notice any difference…teeth definately feel clean after using it though.
Thanks,
Charles

It’s amazing synchronicity to see your oil-pulling show today, because I just started doing this two days ago! I’ve been having some intense but intermittent pain over the past month in and around a tooth where I had had a root canal over ten years ago. I had found some relief from rinsing with warm salt water, but it clearly wasn’t a deep enough remedy. So three nights ago I was led by my intuition to Bruce Fife’s website; read his article on oil-pulling, and started the next morning using coconut oil.
My results so far: Yesterday the pain was greatly reduced. Today the pain is gone…none all day. Needless to day, I intend to keep doing this!
And Kevin, I LOVED what you had to say today about “always coming back to your whole foods base”. Such an important piece! I hope you’ll do more with this topic.
Thank you for all you do!

Last year I tried oil pulling. The site (?) I got the info from said only Sesame oil should be used. I tried this about a month and my gums stopped bleeding the first day. The site said the oil pulls out poisonous bacteria and the mouth and hands should be thoroughly cleansed after the pulling. I have allergies which cause itchy, stinging, watery eyes. I must have touched/rubbed my eye before my hands were thoroughly cleaned, and this caused a cornea infection. It was very painful and took more than a month to heal; the ophthalmologist saw me almost every day, including one Sunday. I am left with scarring in the center of the cornea and my vision is blurred. I stopped the oil pulling the day I got the infection and haven’t used it since. Nothing like this will probably happen to any of you, but please be warned that you need to take special precautions to not touch anything until you have carefully scrubbed.

yes, oil pulling give fantastic results for gum disease, even without using tooth soap,so i really recommend it.
10 minutes 1st thing in the morning is enough already, i use sunflower, but coconut is very good also.
if i cannot use it for a few days, my gums will show it(more red and puffy
thank you for the info K-A and love light and more laughter!!!!!!!!!

I’ve used oil pulling in the past and noticed that I began to detoxify significantly as soon as I started this practice. I also noticed my teeth becoming stronger and whiter as well. I was using sesame oil, and in ayurveda is is said that this oil is unique in that it penatrates to deeper levels of tissue than other oils, thus supposedly allowing toxins to be “pulled” out of our mouth which is home to nerve endings connected to organs and systems throughout the body making this practice extremely beneficial. It is said if you do this practice everyday you can live to be 120 no problem. I dont know about the coconut oil or hemp seed oil oil pulling, I’ll have to investigate that further myself. Thanks for reminding me everyone, I’ll start that off once again tomorrow morning allowing proper time to pass between food and water intake to maximize the benefits of the oil pulling.
Blessings,
Nathaniel

One might want to be careful if one has dental hardware in ones mouth as it pulls out heavy metals as well as toxins which can break down the dental apparatus. I know because it happened to me.

Yes, Kevin, I was recommended from my dentist in Austria to do it, (but I didn’t know that it is what you call it hear “oil pulling”) after she removed amalgam fillings from some teeth. She had also said that the sunflower oil would take the toxins out of my mouth. I think I was supposed to do it for 2 weeks or so. (It was about 20 years ago or so, so I don’t remember the “fine details” any longer.)
By the way, thanks so much for your wonderful work, and Annmarie also! I look forward to the cooking on Wednesday! Keep up the great work!

Thank you for this show. I had never heard of this until now. Although I am very skeptical, as this seems similar to the detox foot pads that I keep hearing are a scam, I tried it tonight. I just used a current oil mix I have on hand (75% organic cold-pressed olive oil, 25% cold-pressed castor oil…what I use for the oil cleansing method). Well, I know this sounds crazy, but about 3 minutes after I finished, I started getting slight leg cramps. Now, its 1:45am and I cannot sleep due to leg cramps and an overall “funny” feeling that reminds me of the detox I have had while on a juice fast. Weird. I haven’t had leg cramps in at least 6 months. I’m still skeptical, but if this repeats itself, I’ll really start to wonder.
Thanks again for your show!

I have tried oil pulling in the past, it did seem to make my teeth whiter. But from what I read, you should do the oil pulling first thing in the morning after brushing your teeth and then after the oil pulling, brush your teeth once again to ensure that you don’t re-absorb the toxins. You can do the oil pulling more often, depending on the degree of toxity that is in your system. However it is ideal to do the oil pulling after having not eaten for four hours due to the high possibility of an uspet stomach, to my understanding. You can find out much more information and different people’s experiences with oil pulling and other interesting natural therepys at earthclinic.com. No one sells anything at the websight. It is simply a forum for anybody who has had a succeful or unsuccesful with a partcular natural therepy or herb-etc. A great place to get honest feedback.

I’ve been oil pulling for several months using coconut oil. I don’t know about toxins, etc. – but what I do know is my teeth are quite a bit whiter. *Ü*

How do you do this oil pulling? It sounds interesting. I agree with using the sesame oil, because I used it for a period of time, I used sesame oil on the body and found it to be more satisfying, or rather it was somehow more relaxing than other oil. But it is recommended to use coconut oil in the summer because the sesame oil tends to generate heat in the skin and that was my experience. When the weather got hotter I started to notice that the skin got some some red patches on it. Not that much, but enough to turn my mind towards the coconut oil and when I used the coconut oil, the redness in the skin went away. I think I got this right, it was many years ago.

Thanks Kevin for your answer on reading too much. To keep coming back to our intuition and our basic feelings about what to eat is really the answer. There’s this thing called spiritual materialism, and it’s about taking in more than you can use. Same with overeating, and also with reading too much about what to eat i guess.
Can you tell me what you think about the medical info in the book: “become younger” by NW Walker? It all sounds very clear, but maybe ideas have changed since?(I still do read a lot)

Hi Kevin ! Annmarie!! I have not tried oil pulling but I just might try it one day for the heck of it!! I do want to know what you think of raw sheeps milk cheese as close to a whole food and eating it lets say one a month, because i still crave it ,maybe because Im italian,or just cause i just like it some times I try to substitute nutricinal yeast , but then I think of candida issues, Your thoughts please! thanks diane

Haven’t tried oil pulling yet. This was the first I’ve heard about it.
I did however find that if you do it that you might want to choose Grape Seed Oil as the article below says it may boost oral health. Check it out:

Sounds like a safe way to whiten your teeth. How does it react with mercury fillings?
12:31 pm on December 3rd, 2008
i have done this for long periods of time and stopped and gone back to doing it again..
i love it………it really gets rid of lots of mucus…………..even with eating vegan and raw being a type a blood type i get lots of mucus and
this really heps…….i also fell great doing oil pulling like it pulls toxins from your body….it does clean your mouth and teeth and has not effected my fillings ( the few i have left)…you have to make sue you brush your teeth when finished and drink water………this is making me go back to it again…. i am just not the type of person to do anything forever……..it works much better
for me to do it and take timeout and go back to it ………

I did oil pulling for a couple of months earlier this year (I have braces now so don’t do it daily any more but will start again once they are gone). I noticed that my teeth were whiter by the second day!

i do oilpulling usually daily now for almost a year.
it has healed my gums, whitened my teeth!, and pulls the mucus out of my body, which has been one of my challenges. oilpulling is AWESOME. i researched it online first, read all the testimonials, and tried it, and that was that. i now personally know 3 people who oil pull daily and they have had the same super great results. oil pulling was what was missing from my dental care routine. i use unrefined organic sesame oil. i usually do it first thing in the morning for 10 or 20 minutes. i have done it at night and even after i ate and never got sick. but i like it best on an empty stomach. it is well worth the time. it WORKS.

I’ve tried oil pulling years ago after reading about it in a Polish naturopath’s book of rare cures. Honestly, I have a hard time keeping my mouth shut that long so I only did it a few times. I recommended it to my neighbor and her teeth got whiter. About 6 months ago I bought a bottle of sunflower oil with the intention of trying it again but just can’t wrap my head around spending 20 minutes a day with oil in my mouth. It’s a fantastic and proven detox though and I do recommend it especially for broke people.
As far as dental fillings breaking down from it, that doesn’t seem scientifically possible. Mercury fillings should be removed if they are breaking down of course. They have a lifespan so it could have been coincidence too in the case mentioned above.
The filling material is solid and small amounts of mercury vapor would be released from the filling material which then typically gets stored in the body. Perhaps it would come out in the oil?
It would be fascinating to have the oil analyzed with someone who has mercury fillings but it would be pretty hard to tell exactly where the mercury is coming from. Is it coming out of storage? That would be awesome. Coming out of the teeth? Just the vapor I would think. Not enough to break down a filling.

Okay, so I’m back. I posted last night after trying oil pulling for the first time. I had leg cramps and mind racing that kept me up all night. Not a wink of sleep. Since I was up and only did the first oil pulling for 10 minutes instead of 20, I thought I would try it again. This time it was 100% Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil, no castor oil. NOW, I have redness and sensitivity all over my face!! It feels like I used some sort of AHA on my face or something, but I only used my regular Dr. Bronner’s followed by some olive oil to further moisturize. I thought it must be the soap irritating my skin for some odd reason, even though I’ve never had that before, but now I have a touch of it on my stomach and a little on my upper back/neck! This is so crazy. All I did differently was the oil pulling! I’ve never had this type of redness on my face, so this is really bazaar. I can’t believe this. Since I was up all night, I did a little research and found others have had similar redness/burning on their face early in the detox from oil pulling. There was a GREAT 4-part video interview on you tube that featured a doctor who wrote a book about oil pulling and how he originally was attempting to disprove the method, but on the contrary, he found there to be evidence that it works. It was very interesting. I think I believe!!! Unreal! Being a raw vegan is quite a bit for my friends and family to handle, so I’ll probably be a “closet oil puller”!

I didn’t know it was called oil pulling but yes I have done this for several years on and off and I always noticed the overall increased health benefits when I start up again. I grow lots of herbs in my garden and also wildcraft quite a few and have made some healing oils from the herbs and olive oil. I decided to use that oil to do my “swishing” with. That is what I call it. I was told to spit it out in the toilet and swish and rinse with a half baking soda and salt solution in warm water to completely cleanse the mouth afterwards. It was not for just the teeth but for the whole body. I am sorry I do not remember the source from where I started this practice. I am 57 and have 9 children and 10 garndchildren so far and have always been into health. It is one practise that works. I don’t believe the infections come because of this it is only detoxifying the system in a priority based manner as the body knows best and what to work on next. Great work Kevin and Ann Marie!

I will have to try this oil pulling. My teeth tend to be quite yellow in my opinion. I used to always do the whitening, but will not do that again in the future. I’ve using tooth soap for a few weeks. Maybe it’s my imagination, but the edges of my teeth that were translucent seem to be getter denser in apprearance.
Kevin and Annmarie, you are awesome for bringing us all this information.

Somewhere out there is a site called “oilpulling.com” – very informative.
I have learned that ONLY sunflower oil or sesame oil are really indicated to be used.
As I recently got all my mercury fillings removed – I now want to start again with the oilpulling.

I heard about oil pulling on another site. I used olive oil and ’swished’ for 20 min’s. I didn’t havve a problem with it. I will tey the coconut oil and interesting about the gentleman who used sesame seed oil on his skin and how warming it is. I’m going to try that as I’m raw fooding thru a slightly chilly Maine!
thank you Kevin & Annmarie for your hard work and getting into the ‘nitty-grit’ on what’s flying around, in the health field!
luv’n raw,

I have done oil pulling quite a bit but not for whitening my teeth. It works very well to clear your sinus so if you are stuffy & oil pull, when you are finished you will be breathing clear all day. Works every time, I did it as part of a detox program and it helped clear up a gum infection. Done regularly, it will clean off any built up tartar. It is easy, inexpensive and effective.

I find that oil pulling is not effective at all. Just because something has been done for thousands of years does not mean that it is valid, true, or effective. Do keep in mind that the ancient Chinese thought they could make themselves immortal by consuming mercury…

I have been doing oil pulling for over 2 years. I have so much less plaque and my teeth stay whiter. I have extended my dental appointments from every 3 months to every 6-8 months. I also feel this has helped my health greatly as I am recovered from Lyme. I usually do this 6 times a week and give myself a day off. It feels kind of good to skip a day. When I am away from home and don’t do this I feel strange and can’t wait to get back home and start pulling again.
9:17 pm on December 6th, 2008
What is oil pulling? Also, when you remove mercury-fillings from your teeth, what do you fill the place with that was filled with mercury fillings?
6:32 pm on December 8th, 2008
I’ve been doing oil pulling on and off for quite some time and love it! It makes my teeth feel exceptionally clean and of course they’re a much brighter white! It’s also helped with gum issues.
I generally do it first thing in the morning while jumping on the mini tramp!
In terms of personal care products i am a “water only” gurl…for hair, teeth, body, etc but make an exception for oil pulling. k

Hello everyone! It is January 6th. I started oil pulling daily about 2-3 days after this post was published on Dec. 3rd, so it’s definitely been a full month. I really wish I could report some amazing reaction but I can’t. I cannot tell whether it is working, but am motivated enough to give it another month or two. I am using raw organic sesame oil that is precisely for ayurvedic practices. I swish for 20 minutes until the oil is completely white and liquid, then spit it out, and brush my teeth with tooth soap. I do this first thing in the morning, before even drinking water (I read that this was the way to do it). Changes? Well, maybe less plaque. Hard to tell. Also, in September or so I started experiencing hair loss for the first time and even got a large bald spot (eventually larger than a quarter), which completely freaked me out (fortunately it’s still hidden by hair). The bald spot started in September and got bigger. Now, the hair has started growing back in around the edges, but this could have begun before the oil pulling. Sorry so inconclusive. Best of luck to everyone.

My friend had bad allergies and did the sesame seed oil pullin every morning with great success to her allergies and sinus problems. Her husband and brother in law started to do it and her husband lost his crown, and her brother in law lost a large filling. So be aware, the warnings of distruption to dental work is true!

Does anyone know why oil pulling causes problems with dental work?

i just wonder if salt and or hydrogen peroxide diluted in water pulling or special gum essiantal oil pulling would bring much better results?!
