I'm still confused as to what are the detrimental effects of consuming raw agave syrup, in say, coffee/tea or cereals? I use it every day and so far, no bad effects.

SweetTree Organic Palm Sugar (granulated) is the great alternative to cane and other sweatners like Agave. It's amazing and low glycemic. You can get it at all Whole Foods in the U.S.

hey Sush :)

there is so much information to absorb, little wonder we get confused sometimes..

I reckon it'd be maple is better than agave is better than refined sugar. make sure it is actually maple syrup, not just maple flavoured sugar syrup (check the ingredient list).

also know that crazy out of this world sugar cravings are usually a good indicator of magnesium deficiency. mesquite sorts you out for both things (it's sweet & so yummy & also loaded with magnesium)

if I had choose between say a tablespoon of sugar or table spoon of dark agave syrup or a table spoon of maple syrup. What would be the best choice?

Just started on your show and I am hooked. I love watching at least once a day. I feel like there is endless info, as well as morivation to keep up the health and fitness lifestyle. I am new to the "raw foods", can you clarify on which honey you are talking about. I am guessing that the honey I buy in the grocerie store is not it?
Yours in health and fitness,
Annette

Hi Catherine,

You are correct about fructose being harmful to the liver in concentrated amounts and.. correct me if I'm wrong, Kevin, but I think that's what Kevin was trying to say in his first video about agave. I think in this video he was trying to say, whether concentrated at temperatures higher or less than 115 degrees (which is the cut off point for raw food), we are still taking a whole food from nature and separating it from its other components (such as fiber, co-factors, phytonutrients, etc.. ) to create a very concentrated form of a portion of the food we would otherwise get in a completely different package from nature.. and that can be dangerous. I believe if one sticks to the recommended 2-3 whole fruits a day, the amount of fructose that is being consumed is not going to be detrimental to your liver or health, but if you take it in amounts that are above and beyond that, it will.. and that is precisely what we are doing when we extract and concentrate only portions of a food for our consumption.

Just as with raw cocao powder, where the fat has been removed from it, we learned from that video and the comments afterwards, that altering the way cocao was designed to be eaten, in this way, causes an increase in the rate at which caffeine and theobromine are absorbed.. so the fat is there for a reason.

Whenever we try to improve on mother nature, we come up short. There hasn't been enough research and we don't understand just yet, all the components of foods and how they interact with each other, but I don't believe we can ever improve on mother nature. I think foods are perfect just the way they were created and anything we do to try to change that is only going to be to our detriment.

In a recent lecture I attended by Brian Clement, he said that fruit has been hybridized to be sweeter than it was meant to be, so he doesn't recommend eating more than one or two fruits a day. That probably has to do with the fact that fruit has a higher concentration of fructose than it used to as well.

Gabriel Cousens also said there is a difference between tonics and herbs. Tonics are foods which don't contain any small amount of toxin whereas herbs do. He said you should also be very careful about ingesting herbs and that you should not eat them in concentrated amounts.

Just a few comments to put forth on the health benefits of eating whole foods as opposed to concentrated and extracted forms of food. Be careful what you are eating if it is not from nature.. we can't always watch and control what people are doing to alter our food. The best way to guarentee we are getting the best is to eat the way mother nature intended us to.

Hope this helps..
