I have tried the tea before, it tastes absolutely delicious. I have bought as a packaged tea in a Russian Deli store “Moscow Deli” in Costa Mesa, California.It is used in Russia as an anticancer treatment.

Daniel is awesome. Another health/plant/exercise expert I REALLY like that I think Kevin and Annmarie could interview is RawMatt. On Easter I found my first hunk of Chaga right in my Mother & Father In-laws Yard on one of there Birch Trees ~~~WOW What a sight!!! It is so cool ~~~some day I will harvest it!!! I did the old Chaga Dance~~~~of excitment~~~…Thanks Daniel,Kevin & Ann Marie (SP ?)

I found Chaga growing on Yellow Birch trees. Usually older one which are harder to find in our area now but still possible. Many time they are way up high off the ground and difficult to get too. Birch trees are not a good climbing tree like a maples or oaks. Birches are not long live trees in general too. Care must be taken not to damage the tree. You actually have to saw it off like wood. It takes some muscle to harvest it. Its my understanding too that you have to find it on live trees. If the tree is dead its probably not something you’ll want to harvest.

When I gave my Russian friend some chaga she was amazed it was growing here. It was like I had given her one of the most valueable gifts.

Think about it’s connection to the ecology of the planet too. Over harvesting it may be like the Ginseng and Goldenseal. Both of which are endangered in the wild now.

My husband and I found one of these mushrooms while biking the Wauponsee Glacial Trail near Manhattan, IL in early April of this year. I had never seen one before and didn’t know what it was, but I made sure I took pictures. I was excited to find out about it on this episode with Daniel Vitalis.

Hey, Kevin, it’s interesting that you brought this up. I used to live in Siberia many years ago and saw chaga growing on birch trees many times. Everybody in Siberia knows that chaga has great healing properties. I’ve never tried it though, maybe I should when I go visit my parents over there..
