We have a special treat for you today and tomorrow…

Our friend and favorite raw food chef came over today to hang out, so naturally, we got him on tape to talk about his own raw food diet, making raw teas, and running 100 miles on a raw food diet.

I think you’ll really like this show… so take a look…

Your question of the day: What raw food prep classes have you taken and what did you think of them?

Wow 1 or 2 dozen bananas in one day!

We are going to our first Raw Food Prep class next Tuesday a Thanksgiving Feast with Bruce Horowitz at our local co-op. We live in Bellingham Wa just a skip a way from Vancouver and Victoria (my hubby actually works across the border) so maybe we will be able to see you there. That Goji drink sounds good you should post on Gone Raw. We also loved Franks recipe for cucumber avocado soup. Good even in the fall!

Thanks for doing what you do

    Peace Light and Love

I’m a big fan of Banana Boy aka Raw Food Frank! Great laid back interview and I can’t wait to be under Frank’s instruction at his upcoming Dallas prep class next month.

I’ve been to a number of raw food prep classes and have always come away with something new and inspiring. My most memorable class was in Edmond, OK at the home of Chef Mandy Canistelle (Eating In The Raw), when she was hosting guest chef, Peter Cervoni, formerly of Hippocrates Institute and co-chef with Chad Sarno’s project, Healthy Adventure. In my opinion, Pete is one of the raw food world’s best kept secrets. If you get a chance to sit under his soulful raw food instruction, you’ll be blessed, inspired and ignited.

I’ve taken several now – including one by Frank at Raw Spirit ‘07 – I actually loved all of them – I learn something new each time – Lisa Persico, Blake Kuralt, Linda Szarkowski, Delores, Mehmet Ak, Jennifer Cornbleet, the Chocolate couple – forgot their names – all from Chicago & all amazing – plus a bunch of folks at Raw Spirit ‘07 – Sergei Boutenko – never experienced one I didn’t like – one of my very favorite presenters, however, is Cherie Soria – she is just over-the-top organized, prepared, and thoroughly professional. But there’s a big difference between just watching and listening and actually getting in there with your hands & using the Spiral device, etc., esp. when you’re dealing with me, someone who’s always been entirely kitchen-challenged – even burnt toast so was excited to learn you don’t have to cook anything if you go raw!

My only opportunity so far has been Alissa Cohen’s Raw Food Chef/Teacher/Instructor Certification in Maine. While it was very interesting and I met great people, I had a different expectation.

In January 2009, I’ve signed up for the Living Light School in Ft. Bragg and can’t wait to learn everything I can.

I haven’t yet been to a raw food prep class, but I am dying to find a good one! I’d really like to go to Cherie Soria’s class after seeing her on Rawkathon, but as that’s on the opposite side of the country, I can’t do that anytime soon.
If anybody knows of a good place near Orlando, FL, for a raw food prep class, please let me know! Thank you!!

I enjoyed your interview with Frank. I took a raw food class thru Alissa Cohen but it was taught in Fla by someone who took her class. There was a certification provided. I have a question for Frank- is there a tea that will help stop a post nasal drip or one that is good for breathing? Excellent job Kevin & Anne marie. Thanks. Myra

I have never gone to a raw food class, because there is so much free information available in library books and online. I try stuff that I see and read, but often I just go with my own ideas and inspiration! Some of my most rewarding experiences have happened this way.

Now, not to be the heavy, but I haven’t seen an issue addressed in our community that troubles me. And if I see it, I’m probably not the only one.

Some – and certainly not all – of the folks who are authorities on the raw vegan lifestyle are unethically capitalizing on our ignorance about how to live and what to eat. (I call this rawksploitation, and my husband smirks.)

These raw authorities begin by sharing compelling information, and then, when we are resonating with their ideas, they tell us that in order to be truly fulfilled and healthy, we must have access to special training, events or superfoods/supplements that are available on a limited basis at a high cost – also very conveniently available for purchase at their blog/dot com.

It’s like there is this beautiful world out there, but you have to go to their store to buy your ticket for passage.

Finally, in order to reconcile us with their price tag, they remind us that we can pay now in dollars or later with our health. The message is that only when we can take their class or buy their bottle of stuff will we become fully realized, immortal raw foodies. And if we don’t buy it, we’re in danger.

I don’t feel very comfortable with that, and so, to return to the topic, I probably wouldn’t go to a raw food prep class – unless it was free. And they almost never are.

If a person wants to make money by imparting knowledge to another person, that is his/her right. But I think that information should be free – particularly the kind of information that everyone needs to have right now to heal our species and our planet. The folks who say, “Make them work for it, make them pay for it, or they won’t value it.” may sincerely believe what they are saying. I hope they do. Because if they don’t, they’re just trying to make us accept and admire them for their tough love.

    Personally, I don’t buy it.

Speaking personally, many of the things I value most highly were and are free.

Speaking personally, paying a lot of money for a bottle of magic has never once made me happy, and I’ll admit that I’ve bought some pricey bottles in my time. On the other hand, I would be totally delighted to forage for a free, abundant basket of fruit, greens, nuts, seeds, maca, goji berries, phytoplankton and maybe the occasional find of cacao. Wouldn’t you? Just imagine it! Who wouldn’t cheer for free, delicious, life-giving food? And who doesn’t love to learn a new time-saving technique from a friend or colleague? That’s natural! That’s how we are meant to live – to share in abundance and to give and receive with love and joy.

My first of many raw food prep classes given by Rene Oswald in Palm Beach Gardens, Fl. was three years ago and every time I attend, I learn something new about food or sprouting and all the benefits. She healed herself from a rare incurable auto-immune disease and now teaches raw prep classes at a local health food store every week and has 2 “cookbooks” to her credit. I’ve been to wonderful classes at Hippocrates Health Institute in W. Palm Beach and I learned so much the summer of ‘07 at Hallelujah Acres Lifestyle Center in Lake Lure, NC with Anita and Tim Koch. Their program included a lot of exercise and with the mountains in the background, it was totally awesome. Raw is Good!!!!! And Kevin, your Rawkathon was so informative, I learned so much from everyone you interviewed, my many thanks to you and AnnMarie.

I’ve taken one raw prep class from Brigitte Mars (Rawsome)here in Boulder Colorado, that I think was Asian themed. She used to have a policy that all repeat students can take additional classes for free (don’t know if it’s still that way). I love her relaxed approach to simple combinations of ingredients. She covered a lot of good basics and everything tasted delicious. (She has a nice u-tube class also.)
And that wacky Juliano(RAW)came to the Denver Public Library and gave a wonderful class to the public for free. (I think the Library paid him some, but it was free to us) Some people just came in off the street and had no idea what they were getting into! It was a thoroughly enjoyable, entertaining and delicious introduction to raw for many in the audience.
I have been off and on raw for 5 years or so, and it’s not been until recently that I realy feel in the swing of how to do this consistantly for myself and my family. Something has shifted and now with the help of lots of great ideas and recipes from wonderful sites and teachers like you Kevin and Annmarie, that I feel sucessful-finally! It really is getting easier. Thank you for all the great support…

I’ve been to a class taught by Mindy Goldis in San Diego. She was inspiring and so informative. I can’t attend many classes as my income has shrunk recently. I love watching Kevin and AnneMarie working together, whether it’s doing yoga or preparing recipes for all of us to learn from. I enjoy sharing recipes I’ve gleaned from many sources. Thank you, Giannis, for sharing your life with us!

I think Heidi says it best when she says: “in order to be truly fulfilled and healthy, we must have access to special training, events or superfoods/supplements that are available on a limited basis at a high cost – also very conveniently available for purchase at their blog/dot com.

OK, so this is someone’s way of making money and their choice. BUT, what about getting some of this free if their goal is for one to be healthy. Oh, that’s right, they would not make any money.

By the way: People must be aware that certain nutritional deficiencies can occur on the raw food diet, including:
Calcium, Iron, B12 (The Journal of Nutrition study found that a raw food diet increased levels of homocysteine due to vitamin B-12 deficiency)Protein and Calories

Is that what you want to do to your body?

    Hey,
I think you have a cute little show and have enjoyed it. BUT, I am getting 2 and 3 emails a day from you I don’t want. Now a new spam this morning from you (with someone else) that I don’t want. I tried to unsubscribe from yours, but it didn’t work. I’m still getting them, and when I try to unsubscribe from the “healthbooks” emails that I’m sure I never signed up for, my email advises me NOT to click the link because it is suspicious in origin. I feel like I’m being harassed with all this, so please bump me off your list. I’ll visit your website instead, I don’t want the spam!
I realise you have to make money, but tone it down a bit, please! You’ve turned me off already!

I am a certified Raw Food Chef and Associate Instructor through Living Light Culinary Institute, courtesy Cheria Soria and the Living Light staff.

These classes were of the utmost professionalism and detail. They were fast and on your feet, packed with information that took me another 6 months to follow to fully explore on my own.

Cherie and Martine do most of the classes. Cherie lights up the room and commands respect. Martine is sharp and crisp, and approachable. Both are extremely supportive, and amazing chefs!

After taking the whole Chef series, I am capable of going in to a kitchen with the most basic ingredients and making something totally delicious, without a recipe! And I am capable of sharing culinary skills with others in a thorough and professional manner, all the while carrying the light that is encouraged at Living Light, and accepting people where there are on their path.

And I’m nutrition savvy to boot, which was heightened by the Raw Food Nutrition class taught by the Dina Doctors.

Honestly, a little work with Karen Knowler in the deep emotional/spiritual realm, and I think I’d be a full powerhouse package. =)

And someday I’ll raise the money to inturn at the Tree of Life, where everyone I know who has gone, never wanted to leave!

    Happy learning. ;)

As someone new to the raw foods scene as recently as the last half of this year,l enjoy reading the experiences, the opinions of particapetees on this forum provided at Kevin`s and Anne-marie`s initiative.Thank-you yo you both, and thank-you Heidi for your above stated opinion, they are thoughts that have crossed my mind also. But l hadn`t solifified and articulated my resistance to this part of the raw foods lifestyle, does following a raw vegan lifestyle have to be in conflict with conservationist values. Can l act locally by buying community supported agiculture, without needing to source super foods grown out of my region, state,or country to acheive resounding good health and well-being??????????

Yes l have been to a raw foods vegan gourmet foodies class, enjoyed it immensely!! Thanks to Anand & Rumi from Murwillimbah, NSW, Australia. They really turned me on to the possibility of a delicious,senses-filled, exuberant vegan life, and put me on to renegadehealth too. Thank you all.

    Bonsoir Kevin & Anne-marie,

thank you for your show. Yes, I sign up for my first vegan and raw cooking class with Chef Al Chase here in the rose city of Portland Oregon. I am very excited to get teach by Chef Al Chase one to one for 5 full-time days on the first week of January. I plan to find one of our 30 veggie restaurant in town to work one evening per week, before I move back to France in June 2009. In September I will start a 2 years program at one of the French Universities in nutrition (BS) after a Ph.D. in Biology and almost 10 years work in medical research with infectious diseases.
My plan is to open my website with a blog to share my informations with the French speaking public about health, sport and plant-based nutrition (vegan raw).
Thank Kevin & anne-marie for inspirations.
I love your show and hope to meet you in couple years when I will be established in health business in Europe to change the live one of the time.

I commend Heidi on he assessment of the direction the raw food industry is headed.

I’ve been a raw food advocate since 1992 thanks to Hallelujah diet concepts. But even they were consumed by the money and have strayed from their original, “share this information, and save your fellow humankind”.

I love Mike Adams, and am truly greatful for the vast amount of information he FREELY shares with us! But I’m now weary that this pyramid sales scheme will consume him in the same way Barley Green did George Malkmus. The saving grace is that he intends to give so much of it back to mankind. I did buy a large set of CDs from him with little regret in that I’m less audio and more video inclined, which is what I love so much about Kevin and Annmarie.

I can’t stress enough, what a turn off the martyr video was, and find it very hard to believe it is in the most popular column. As I expressed at the time Kevin made the video as viewers most people would be more inclined to purchase compilations of his message so that they can then freely share it with friends and family in video seminar form. Cook/Raw meal books also should be a good honest money maker. In this way, if changing the health of the world is truly the driving force, not cash, it will be the giving that triggers an influx of wealth not the endless selling.

I really am speaking my mind hoping this post will be acceptable, and I am thankful for Renegade Health. I love Franks outlook on the money end of natural health. Rest assured it is the giving to mankind that will come back to you many times over, and make your lives wealthy in more ways than large bottom lines!

    Peace, Ron

I have taken nine (I think) raw food prep classes, including the Alissa Cohen certification classes, with Dr. Ritamarie Loscalzo in Austin TX. Her web address is http://www.freshnfunliving.com. She is a very energetic, knowledgeable and loving person and I feel inspired every time I am in contact with her. Her classes, coaching, raw food potlucks and ebooks have been life-changing for me, my family and friends, and countless others.

    KEVIN,

I’VE HAD A LIFELONG LOVE AFFAIR WITH CHOCOLATE. ABOUT 10 YEARS AGO I TOO BEGAN TO DEVELOP ECZEMA. IT SLOWLY SPREAD ACROSS MY HANDS AND FEET. SYMPTOMS ESCALATED FROM OCCASIONAL ITCHING TO DOWNRIGHT SORENESS AND EVEN BLEEDING. THEN ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO THINGS GOT SO BAD THAT IF I TOOK ANY CHOCOLATE, MY BODY IMMEDIATELY WENT INTO EMERGENCY MODE. WITHIN ABOUT 2 HOURS THE SKIN ON MY HANDS AND ARMS WOULD LITERALLY SPLIT APART AND BLOOD WOULD COME OOZING OUT. MY BODY WAS TRYING TO PUSH THE TOXINS OUT THE QUICKEST WAY IT KNEW HOW – RIGHT THROUGH THE SKIN.
I CURED MYSELF BY STUMBLING ACROSS PATRICK SHELLY’S NUTRIHARMONY WEBSITE. HE HAS A PRODUCT CALLED LIFECODE WHICH ADDRESSES ALLERGIC CONDITIONS IN 4 DIFFERENT WAYS. IT CONTAINS FULVIC ACID (THE FUNDAMENTAL BUILDING BLOCK OF THE CELL), GENUINE HIMALAYAN MINERAL PITCH (85 DIFFERENT MINERALS), ALL 8 POLYSACCHARIDES NEEDED TO FACILITATE INTER-CELLULAR COMMUNICATION, AND THE ORIGINAL ERROR-FREE GENETIC TEMPLATE NEEDED FOR TRUE MIRROR-IMAGE CELLULAR REPRODUCTION. THE COMBINATION OF THESE FOUR WORKED LIKE A CHARM. ITS BEEN ABOUT 4 MONTHS NOW. MY ECZEMA IS GONE AND I CAN EAT ALL THE CHOCOLATE I WANT. AH, LIFE’S LITTLE PLEASURES…

    Hey Kevin,

I am suffering from Candida and would like to know where I can find your info on it. I am a cacao fanatic and I think it’s not good for my Pitta type body. I crave sugar and mostly chocolate. BUt, when I ate it today my stomach hurt bad. Right now I can’t eat anything sweet; including fruit, without my stomach grinding. I need/want help but, am limited on money. What can I do? Any help I would just LOVE!

    Peace,
