I saw a documentary of “psychic surgery” and it exposed the trick of the “surgeon” having the supposed tumor, blood etc. in one hand already. He/she basically uses a lot of hand movement, working fast, like magicians, through slight of hand. They cover the area with the hand that does not contain the “tumor”, or whatever, and then swiftly bring in the other hand with the bloody mass in it and quickly apply it to the area they are “operating” on. They go through a lot of contortions to make it look like they are extracting a tumor from the area. With the clean hand covering the “operation” area, they hide what is really going on. Anyway, as a 5x cancer survivor, diagnosed 31 years ago at age 15, I am no stranger to surgery. When watching this documentary, the slight-of-hand/distraction method was a very plausible explanation. Ain’t the power of persuasion (placebo effect) a marvelous thing?

    Hello Kevin:
I have heard and have witnesed cautery burns on children in the middle east, they believe it changes the course of illness and draws it out of the body. I’m not sure what they use but the burns appear like a form of branding.
Just some personal information about me Kevin, I am a surgical nurse but prefer alternatives for my own care. I work in the operating room in a pediatric facility. I am registered with 4 or 5 newsletters and have been reading about alternative and complimentary medicine for 20 years. I am a EPFX Practioner using biofeedback as a tool but am trying to develop as a medical intuitive.
Love the show, you always amuse me and I learn many new things. If I can be a resource for you feel free.

    thanks again

    Louise

Wow, makes you wonder about the human species! One that I do believe in is the neti pot–it helped me with my allergies and eating raw got rid of them completely :)

This is not a strange alternative medicine practice, but thought I share my recent experience.
    Energy Medicine, by Donna Eden
Its based on a healing traditions such as Ayurveda and Chinese medicine, works with the mind and body’s natural, self-healing intelligence. The class I attend was dealing with stress, fatigue, emotional turmoil, illness and other challenges. They track your bioenergies to find Energy Medicine practices for your particular needs and current situation. Also have you had any experiences with Limu products?
    Thank you

I have tried ear candling several times for blocked ears and it never seemed to work for me although I found the experience very relaxing each time. Syringing works best for my ears.

I know some people who have and do practice urine therapy but like you Kevin, I could not bring myself to do that unless it was life and death. :-)

That was so cool. I love this piece. Very creative. I’ve used the netti pot many times especially during the allergy season. A little sea salt and goldenseal in warm water and using a netti pot which I bought at the Natural Foods store. It gave relief like no other. Wow. It is very effective. I highly recommend it. Check out the You Tube for instructions on how to use one. It takes a few times for us Westerners to get it right. It surely did for me. But once you do it you’ll be hooked on it. Great to have in your health tool chest.

The neti pot works awesome, I use it all the time.

Candeling is totally bogus. The wax you see is from the melting wax cone! If you want to remove wax from your ear use hydrogen peroxide drops to soften the wax. Let sit overnight and the next morning use a hydrogen peroxide/water solution to syringe the ears. You’ll be amazed at what comes out!

I’m embarassed to admit that I have tried urine therapy. I was nine monthes pregnant, felt like I had strep throat and drank my urine because I was terrified of being sick for labor. I gargled and swallowed. It worked, but I haven’t had the courage or desperation to try it since, and that was over 20 years ago…

I use a neti pot regularly, and this winter it was a breath saver when I had the flu.

When I tried cupping, in the 80’s, we used our hands. I guess the technique has evolved.

    Fun show!

My grandfather believed in using urine to wash his head/hair. He started to lose hair and used this to stop it. He did it until the hair loss stopped. He reckoned he would have lost all/ most of his hair like his brothers, but didn’t because of this practice. I could not confront drinking, or doing anything with urine. Well it worked for him… I wonder how much is just plain belief?? If you belief in something hard enough it will work!

Without having researched a lot of these ideas…on first glance some of them seem rather strange and even gross! I know my Dad has used variations on the neti pot thing, with good results.

Maybe raw food should be on the list! So many people I know have looked utterly confused when I mention the idea of eating things raw. “What’s raw food?” “Raw food is very bad for you” etc. It’s not that weird is it?! ;-)

    Hi Kevin,

A few years ago, I saw a documentary on taboo medicines and bees.
People who wanted to be cured were stung by many bees. I think it’s called bee venom therapy … It’s supposed to have a powerful anti-inflammatory action.
Did you hear about that ?

Try soaking your infected finger or toe in white bread and warmed milk to draw out the poison. My mother used this remedy on me over 50 years ago.

I’ve candled many ears with varying amounts of wax being removed. If the candle is not in the correct position no wax will be removed and just a tiny amount of residue will be inside the hollow candle.

thanks for the chuckles this morning….could you imagine if
    you recommended bum therapy!!!!…lol
my co-workers once thought i was
drinking urine when i was having tea from a mason jar at coffee time.!!!!….i played right along and had a good laugh at the reaction’s i was getting !!!
we humans are definitely a weird bunch….people will blindly follow the pack and vaccinate their kids and swallow down chemicals without ever questioning.. yet… talk to those same people about food and how what they eat creates their bodies and they look at you like YOU have lost YOUR mind !!!!….go figure…..!!!..i guess it takes all kinds.
    anyway..
thanks again for the wealth of info and entertainment you and annmarie provide to our ever expanding community.
    health and peace to all.
    namaste.

Thanks Kevin – very interesting & entertaining! (Especially your reaction to the thunder. LOL:)) I’ve done quite a few alternative therapies & treatments, but none as odd as the ones you show here (except for ear candling & the neti pot – both effective). Perhaps the strangest one that comes to mind is the castor oil pack, which I used often when I had stage IV breast cancer. To relieve the “pins & needles” sensation that I felt all over my torso I would place a cloth soaked in castor oil over my rib cage & then I covered it with a hot water bottle wrapped in a towell. This always brought relief. I also soaked in alkalizing baths of epsom salts & food-grade hydrogen peroxide – very effective at detoxifying the body, (not to mention turning the ends of my black hair a very stylish shade of red). There’s lots more, but that’s all I can think of off the top of my head.

    Hi Kevin,
This was a very entertaining episode, especially bum reading – too funny! :-)

I have tried the neti pot; sometimes it gives a little relief from my allergies but sometimes I think I actually feel more congested afterwards; it’s probably me doing it wrong!

When I was a kid, I walked barefoot all the time. Once when I had a severe stomach ache my grandmother thought I had intestinal worms, so she rubbed tobacco juice on my stomach. It didn’t take long for the stomach ache to disappear! I’m not sure if it worked or if it was a coincidence…

I too have been wondering how you are doing (regarding your tick bite and the Lyme disease). Please give us an update!

Thanks again, Kevin – another great show!

Have you heard of “oil pulling”? It may be an ayurvedic treatment. My husband does it daily. The noise is annoying, but he seems to think swishing sesame oil in your mouth for 15 minutes removes toxins. I think the oil changes color because of oxidation, but what do I know?

  25. Olga
    9:18 pm on August 12th, 2008

Debra, I was about to send my message and here I see yours about same thing. Yes, I know something about OP [but this is NOT an Ayurvedic. You may learn details from the earthclinic.com]:
I’ve started with oil pulling -OP – with Sesame / Sunflower Oil plus a drop of Oil of Wild Oregano. This is simple, effective safe to use with any other conventional or alternative treatments or as a treatment along itself.
Oregano Oil works as a Nature’s antibiotic [more effective though].

    Oil Pulling page:
    http://www.earthclinic.com/Remedies/oil_pulling.html
http://www.oilpulling.com/ — Another oil pulling site.

I have discovered OP recently and started it right away.
First 2 weeks – 1 Tbsp Sesame Oil [Rapunzel] + 1 Drop Oregano oil, Wild; Next 2 weeks – Plain Sesame.
Every morning after the procedure [20 min.] I experience mucus discharge from the throat — as body’s getting rid from toxins. As a result:
On 2nd – 3rd day started filling difference, such as: clearly more energy, no mucus [while running every morning, breezing only through the nose], shedding pounds, working in a garden for many hours, no muscle pain in the legs or back after all….
OP seems like cleansing whole system from parasitic bacteria, starting with respiratory. Live/dried blood test confirms this.
What do you know and think about OP procedure?

Another thing: I tried to contact Annmarie regarding Elements for Life, but her e-mail didn’t work for me. May you please clarify her e-mail address.

I believe in urine therapy. I used in on my children when they had an ear ache. A soaked cotton ball of my urine in their ear cannel and the ache and fever gone in an hour or so. I’ve also put urine on my cat who had a small tumor on her back;everyday for two weeks. The tumor died and fell off. My husband puts his feet in his own urine when his athlete foot is really bad. So…..what do ya think?

    Hey there,
What a riot! Rumpology? How about a booth at the raw spirit festival? Ha! A big thank you to you and Ann Marie for all you do! When I’m feeling a bit out of sorts, your work helps put a smile back in my heart (and on my face) yay! Angel Blessings and big hugs, Maria
P.S Moxa is another healing modality that involves a solid blend of herbs the size of a piece of chalk that is lit then hovered above the body to draw out toxins wherever needed. Some practitioners believe that touching the skin and burning the flesh brings better results! Yikes!

I believe enemas and colonics are amazing tools for detoxification (helps lymphatic system drain, rehydrating, removes substances that are ‘auto-intoxicating’ you etc) and overall physical bowel health – the standard american diet ruins your bowels ;-)

The strangest alternative healing method that I am ashamed to admit I fell for was the Gentle Wind Project. They created ‘healing instruments’ that they ‘gave’ you for a very high donation amount. They claimed they had minerals in them and how to make them were telepathically transmitted to them by the spirit world. Turns out they were a cult and there were no minerals in the instruments. They have since been disbanded http://www.windofchanges.org/ .

Oh well, it was a good lesson for me.

Btw, I think ear candles work if you have the right candles and they are used correctly. I took my daughter to a wonderful practitioner when she was little and it helped her immensely. But, it done incorrectly, you can actually add more wax to your ears from the candles.

I believe in urine therapy! It’s helped me with my epilepsy (nothing worked at the time) and also decrease my colds through out the year (where I hardley have any). It’s made a miracle in my life!

Hey i was looking at Breatharianism website and i found this amusing.

“Do the meditation exersize before drinking lots of diet coke in the 20 oz and 1 liter sizes (with caffeine) in the plastic bottles only. Along with a double-quarter-pounder/with cheese meal at McDonald’s only. Always meditate 30 mins to an hour before eating.”

    Now that’s spiritual!

Oh and if anyone wants to check out a workshop it’s only $25,000,000.00 USD.
