Today was one of those days…
Yes, people who are into health and motivation and wellness procrastinate and goof around just like everyone else.
I made a well intentioned list of 6 things to do and I’ve gotten just one done. (Good news is that the one that’s finished is this show!)
In this episode, I talk about the Wii Fit (which I haven’t paid much attention to until now), twitter.com, how to boost energy naturally, and how to build strong knees!
I also play guitar for just a quick second… nothing serious… check it out!
Your question of the day: What do you do to blast through procrastination? (I need this one today!)

Bleh . . . I hate days when I’m like that . . . pretty much every day (jk XD). I find what helps on those lazy days is to take a little time to think about what might be causing me to feel that way. For me it is usually that I’m not letting myself have enough fun, or I’ve been to hard on myself in the days prior. Pretty much, when I start procrastinating it’s because I feel like it’s the only way I will have fun.
So I think the best thing to stop the procrastinating is to reward yourself for stuff you do that is kind of a chore for you. For example, I’ll tell myself that if “I finish this paper today, I will go rent a movie I really want to see.” Or “If I go to the gym five days this week, I’ll play lemmings as long as I want Saturday!”
Thanks for posting the video!

Lawl, protein pills. You could do a raw-food music video
I know this sounds a bit contradictory, but if I take a quick nap I’m actually in the mood to get things done when I wake up (don’t try this while at work…hah). Might not work for others but it usually works for me on lazy weekends. Weird huh?
Another thing that might be beneficial is to get your mind completely off of what you’re supposed to do. I find that the more I think about something the more I procrastinate. Distract yourself for a bit, then try progressing on your to-do list!

Kevin, you crack me up! I want to hear the full version of the song!
As for “blasting through procrastination” why would you ever want to do such a thing? I just go with the flow most times, and I find that I’m much more motivated to get things done (more efficiently, too) when the procrastination fades away. It does fade away, I’ve found, if I don’t try to struggle and argue with myself about it.
If part of me feels like doing nothing, then I’ll do nothing if that desire is the strongest. My nothing never really ends up being nothing, anyway, you know? If I spend time chatting online with friends, I am feeding an inner desire to be with those friends (not that this takes the place of spending time with individuals off the Net, which I’d never consider a form of procrastination). If I sit in the sun all day, just kind of observing the world around me, I’m catching up on some much needed vitamin D and time with Mother Nature. I could go on and on…procrastination just means you are doing something different than what you “think” you should be doing. But, if you really *should* be doing that other thing, then you’d be doing it. That’s my thinking on it, anyway.
What’s in the essential oil-type bottle on your desk? What was Annmarie doing all day while you were getting only one thing done on your list? I want to hear more about Annmarie, too.
Lots of love to you,
Wendi

Essential oil is peppermint… I use it before I do talks via teleseminars. I rub it in my hands and put just a small amount below my nose to keep my nose and throat clear.
Annmarie was out seeing clients!
One day I’ll play a full song. Any requests? I used to host an open mic
Thanks everyone for the help, I tend to over-play days like this. I actually got a bunch done, just not what I had on the list!

Kevin,
Your shows are great – I look forward to them every day to see what else you will come up with, procrastination or not. Technically, if you’ve got a bunch of things done it’s not really procrastination, is it? When I get really stuck I do EFT tapping for the thing I don’t want to do, and see what comes up – it often helps me to recharge and get back to to my projects. Do we get to hear the full version of that song?
Thank you for another fun show!

did you really host open mic? I used to be a serious mic-ee…I vote yes on the music video too.
I don’t blast through it, I read a book.
Kevin, our friend died this week suddenly, so I haven’t been in the mood for pictures, but I will send you one as soon as I feel like smiling again…
Now my girls and my husband sit around after dinner for the Kevin Gianni 5 minutes. We are thinking about trying to write your future full length show theme song.

OMG! I almost fell over in my chair laughing at that last bit! That was as adorable as it was hilarious. You have another vote for the music video. I think you should play your guitar, while singing Kumbaya and doing squats off your chair… hehe Just kidding! Please DON’T sing Kumbaya! LOL
You and I seem to have very similar philosophies on lots of things. I believe I was meant to find this website and I’m very grateful.
I think the most important thing about procrastinating is to not feel guilty about it when it happens. Feeling guilty about procrastinating can lead to more procrastination. Kind of like feeling guilty about eating unhealthy food often leads to eating more unhealthy food.
So I have found that simply allowing myself to be a procrastinator when it happens and acknowledging that I have accomplished other things like giving my body/mind/spirit a rest or having some needed fun, then I can get back on track much more quickly with those things that are necessary to get done but may not exactly be my favorite things to do.
This also gives me the space to assess what brought on the procrastination. Am I spending too much time working and having little time for fun, rest or relaxation? Am I doing too many things that de-energize me? Am I feeling overwhelmed? Am I simply doing too much of one thing (being unbalanced)? In this way, I break things down and can start looking for solutions. Then I’m ready to move forward.
Hope that makes sense!

Usually tell myself I will spend 15 min only working on it to get myself started and then I usually keep going, but if not, you can get a lot done in 15 min!

OK! I forgot everything else you said after the Space Oddity bit. I love Bowie references. And I actually have a perodity about weight that I do to that song but it is not very P.C.
Seriously,I use peppermint in all the same ways you do which is very kindred spirit-like.
It is my most favorite essential oil.
In fact when I am really needing to be energized I go around and drip some at each heater vent and fill the house with peppermint!
And I also listen to David Bowie Changes album. Funny huh? Also, Best of Earth, Wind and Fire gets me fired up for housework or workouts.
You are a great inspiration, and you have a great woman behind you. Congratulations!
Thanks,
Lana
PS~
Kevin played guitar

And his own health show star
He gives us a hand
And we love it so far
Became our raw-food friend
Now I’m his biggest fan…
Kevin played Guita-ar

Hi Kev,
Usually when I’m procrastinating it’s because the thing I need to be doing (deadline) I’m subconsciously afraid I’ll mess up. Or maybe I’m afraid I’ll be really good at it, and I’m sabotaging my efforts… Overthinking? I’m not sure. But I tend to get a LOT done when I’m not getting done the thing I need to… But when time isn’t an issue, I agree with the nap suggestion; twenty minutes works wonders!
Thanx for all you bring to the table,
Jeanne SDR

Hi Kevin,
Just procrastinating and thought I would comment on the subject. I don’t think there is anything necessarily wrong with sliding a little, as long as you know what it is costing you, and you are ok with it. That isn’t a bad thing.
Sometimes I really think our bodies are speaking to us and saying, slow down, just a bit, for a while. Just simmer for a while, no need to boil all the time. I think you can get burned up that way.
Just to answer your question further, I actually just posted on my quick read blog, my thoughts on that. Really! I did it Friday.
It is http://www.corebites.blogspot.com. I just started it, so not much goin’ on with it… yet. Take a peek. I think it will give you some new ways of thinking about procrastination.

Hey Kevin!
Well, i must admit i procrastinate every day. Im a uni student, and i feel like ALWAYS have some massive assignment due, so i sit at my desk 24-flippin-7…
right now im ‘writing’ a 3000word biology report – actually, i havnt written anything yet, and its due in 3 days.
i dont even know if i KNOW 3000 english words (2nd language).. haha funny.
oh, to answer your question – ‘good things’ i find myself doing when procrastinating:
- reade books
- buy things online
- write poems
- eat (well atleast i east healthy foodstuffs!)
- draw pictures
- tidy and clean things
- nap
- write letters
- make cards
- drink buckets of tea
- write diary
- download things off the net
and all sorts of other things…
luckly, i never get bored :]

Hi Kevin,
Love love love your show. You mentioned Vitamin C and MSN???-for collagen/knees. What is MSN?
Thanks for all you do!!! Deanna
12:59 pm on April 21st, 2008
Deanna, He was referring to MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane ). You can easily find it in a supplement.
