We just got back in from Argentina today @ 6:00 AM…
Just enough time to take a nap, film the show and spend time with the little guy who missed us most (check out the video to see who that is…)
Today’s episode is about what could be causing your ankle, knee, hip and lower back pain.
Plus, I’ll show you possibly the ugliest running shoes on the planet (owned by none other than yours truly.)
Go ahead and see if you could eliminate your back and lower body pain with this easy tip…
Your question of the day: What physical issues are holding you back?
I’ll do my best to answer your issue on an upcoming show!
Live Awesome!
Kevin
PS. This very white guy got a little sunburn up on the mountain a few days ago and it’s peeling, so hopefully the aloe will combat some of the damage!

OMG!
____OXYGEN_____
I’m on 4 liters per minute, 24 hours a day…
In 1992 I made a VERY POOR decision: I bought a tiny 2bdr mobilehome in a park by a SCHOOL BUS YARD…
This, I thought, was SOUND DECISION-MAKING, having read we should “play at homeownership before buying because not everyone is cut out for MAINTENANCE”… I was OBLIVIOUS to the HEALTH-IMPACTS from living next to that place, after all, it was across the street and on the other side of a BLOCK WALL (Out of sight, out of mind… BUT: NOT OUT OF MY LUNGS!).
Now, I have “a touch of emphysema” ~ NOT LOVELY AT ALL!
To make it worse, I gave myself CHEMICAL PNEUMONIA a couple of 4th of Julys ago, like this: I scrubbed a 5-gallon paint bucket in the kitchen sink with HOT WATER, to loosen the dried paint and make it peel easily. Yeah, it worked like a charm, BUT, it landed me in the HOSPITAL, DYING, within 36 hours!
The resultant SCAR TISSUE from these POOR DECISIONS have me dragging an oxygen cylinder at age 47 ~ started at 45!
I can “fake it” and go cylinder-free to class, the store, meetings, but I’m hooked up MOST of the time…
I want to ride my bike, but HOW with the cylinder?
I want to go around the track at a faster pace, but HOW with the cylinder flopping to either side if it’s slightly unhappy?
THESE are the issues holding me back, as I see them.
I hope they serve to warn others! BOTH the damages to my lungs could have been avoided had I only known then what I know now!…

I am 82 years of age. I have been told I have cataracts. I cannot read fine print anymore even with glasses on. So I am constantly picking up my magnifying glass. I am on what Cambridge Institute for Better Vision recommends which is called Eye Max. Do you feel these extra vitamins will help get rid of cataracts?
Thank you for all your efforts. I am getting a lot out of your videos. Live Awesome!

Acid reflux and the resulting effects (lack of sleep, restricted diet…). I was on medication for 7 years…but after following Dr Hyman’s Ultrasimple diet I have stopped the medication cold turkey. It has been eight weeks and I am holding but I feel I have very low energy. Some days when I don’t sleep well I feel really crummy. I am followed by a naturopatic dr. Any suggestions about diet or other would be welcomed.
Thanks Kevin! You are awesome! Thanks for bringing a little extra sunshine in my day!

Kevin,
Welcome back from Argentina. I have a question totally unrelated to your latest show except for the fact that I saw your cat!!
So, what do you feed your pet?? I have gone through numerous brands of pet food, many of which my cat is allergic too or hates the taste of!! Help me help my cat & give me some advise on this subject.
Thank-you, Janice

My strength coach, Pavel, you know him, has me wearing Chuck Taylors, because they are even soled with no puffed up heel that takes away from the muscles in your foot and legs. Also heels give you an unnatural posture and are bad for your back. As he says, the more expensive your shoes are the worse they are for you. There are low profile shoes with even soles on the market you just have to shop around

Hi Kevin,
I’ve been enjoying your shows – thanks! And, I have a question for you too: I’ve had a desire to get back to jogging recently, and your comments on running barefoot just heated up that desire a bit more. I’m 53, in good physical shape, but haven’t jogged since my early 20′s, when I injured my knee by running too far and too fast without a warm up. This knee has made a crunch sound ever since, whenever I stand up from a squatting position. No pain though, just noise! Do you think it would be advisable to try jogging again? The “specialists” back then all told me to stick to low impact exercise and avoid anymore running. Does the “Renegade” agree?
Keep up the great work. Your energy and enthusiasm is both wonderful and contagious!

Hi Kevin,
Recovering from battling cancer has slowed me down temporarily.
Susana, could you try your cylinders in a back pack like one that is specially made to carry a bladder or water container like long distance hikers and bikers use?

Hi Kevin ~
Welcome back home. You had me going there for the first minute or so of today’s show. I honestly thought you were going to recommend the brand of shoes I wear. They are, bar none, THE BEST DESIGN for alleviating joint impact. However, since you did not recommend my brand… I will!
Here’s the link to the page where you can see some of the athletic shoes:

And here’s a link to the page that tells you all about the technology behind this brilliant design:

I have 3 pairs of their shoes: sandals, clogs and running shoes. I suffered chronic, continual low back pain FOR YEARS! – but not since wearing these shoes. I’ve worn them for 2+ years and have recommended them to many people. They ALWAYS come back to thank me and tell me how wonderful they are and how they’ve finally been able to get relief from joint / back pain. Give ‘em a whirl… I think you’ll thank me, too
I only recently found you on the net, and I really enjoy your shows, Kevin. My current physical issue is inflammation and lack of flexibility. Severe stress over the past 3 years (due to personal challenges) took a serious toll. BUT I’m coming back, making some healthy changes (raw foods!), and have a goal of reaching my ideal weight and physical fitness by my 61st birthday in October. I’m planning on living awesome, too! Bless you for all you do.
Namaste ~

ccd, be sure to watch today’s show
Thanks BigPercy for the converse plug… they’re great for everyday training, but for running on trails their traction is a sub-par.
Maggie, the earth shoes are great to re-adjust, but once that happens, I’d recommend even-ing out the heel. I can’t seem to find them in my width and size…
Ernesto and Donna, for the knees get Danny Dreyer’s book, ChiRunning. It’s unmatched for running. His techniques have changed my running form and eliminated pain in my knees and lower calf. If you’re in SoCal, Steve Mackel @ http://www.socalrunning.com can give you hands on training (Danny’s in Asheville, NC.)
Will get to everyone else’s questions later

I’m an over-pronator who trained for and ran a 1/2 marathon in January with no problems in nike’s, then 2 weeks later developed planar faciitis in my left foot. I’ve tried all kinds of inserts, stretches, etc. to no avail. Any suggestions?!? Thanks,

I LOVE the outtake at the end. Also, with regard to the content, this is one of those things that maybe I wouldn’t think about right away, but it makes perfect sense when my mind is prompted to wonder how my foot actually works.
Thanks for providing the prompting to make my mind think!
And again, Carrie and I LOVED spending time with you and Annmarie! Thanks for making that happen!

What do you think about the Earth Rocket tennis shoe? It has a negative heel…I’m wondering if it is actually good for your foot and your posture. Thanks!

Sorry about this – I am on dial-up so miss everything, still look at site though. I have Fibromyalgia and several other things that usually come with it. Have you got any ideas about that?
12:30 pm on April 11th, 2008
I am approaching my 65th birthday and am fortunate to be in good health. When I read the questions and comments of others and am reminded that there is so much pain suffered by many, my concern seems trivial but I raise it because it is increasingly distressing for me and is probably a concern also for many of your other followers similarly afflicted.
I refer to seborrhoeic warts which for me are proliferating to an extent where I feel I am becoming a lizard. I have sought medical advice and the condition has been dismissed as “a common expectation of the natural aging process and not worth doing anything about”.
I do not subscribe to the idea that common signs of aging are inevitable and, via research, have been able to determine that most symptoms of getting older can be helped by some means, usually dietary. I suspect that some imbalance is the cause of my problem and I am hoping to access information to point me to a remedial or at least preventative direction.
Some years ago, I heard the tail end of a broadcast on the subject. I was never able to discover who the speaker was or anything about his backround but he was definitely expressing his view that dietary deficiencies contribute to the development of these warts. He had been advocating some dietary changes and supplementation but I missed most of it although I noted he mentioned selenium.
So, Kevin, you are such a mine of wisdom that I hope you are aware of a way forward for me.

My biggest challenge seems to be not having enough energy to get through the day without having to lay down at least once. I’m in pretty good health, been on mostly raw foods for over 2 years, but something’s missing….I do emotional healing work, meditate, try to exercise (not enough) and have even begun eating a little fish and poultry now and then in hopes of getting more energy. I know I’m blessed with better health than so many people, so I’m not complaining (not too much!) but sure would love to have even half of YOUR energy, Kevin! Thanks for all that you and Annamarie do, you’re both pretty neat folks!

What slows me down? I run holes in my shoes. Yes, every pair of shoes I own, I run holes in them. Shoes, cheap and expensive and alike, never last more than a month. I guess it means I’m staying active, though…lol.
Anyways, other than always buying shoes, I am constantly fighting myself not to procrastinate. I’ve actually gotten worse over the years, and I’m not too thrilled about that. Still working on a solution to that one!

You rock! Love your energy, keep it up!
I have been having pain in my knee when I run, possibly IT band and it WONT go away. I continue to cross train but every time I come back to running the pain flairs up. Would you recomend running barefoot and seeing if there is improvement? Or trying a newer shoe? I am using the Asics Nimbus 8 now. This needs to be fixed cause I have 140 miles coming up… Thanks!
4:22 pm on April 18th, 2008
Hey Andrew… don’t know exactly what’s going on, but I’ve had some good IT success by removing some of the hip sway from side to side. I’d film yourself running and see if you have any lateral hip motion. If that’s the case, then that’s your issue. Your IT is getting tired.
If that’s the case, you could benefit from some overall core strength as well as change your technique to require less muscle usage in your legs. A ChiRunning type approach.
Some people will tell you that the IT needs stretching, but that’s not the case. Your quads and core need a little more strength.
BTW: This will still work if you’re competitive… which it seems like you are.
Hope that helps!
Kev

Hi Kevin,
First, I appreciate people like you who are willing to help others without looking a monetary profits…you are an inspiration!
Do you have any suggestions for sciatica pain? When I am on my feet too long, I end up with a lot of pain along the sciatic joints and tailbone area. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

my health issue currently is a heavy duty hammie/hamstring and knee injury in my right leg (bad skiing) that isnt quiiite healed up, but healed enough for me to be walking and very gently stretching…and trying to design my own exercises for that injured leg, since there are alot of things i cant do just yet.
i do beginner or prebeginner exercises on my right leg and more advanced on my left.
thankyou for your videos! i love them!

Hi Kevin, this was so interesting. I have had flat feet since I was born. I have been told to wear cushioned trainers like the one you said not to wear!! I was getting shin splints.
I also have been tearing my knee ligament just by walking…Any advice? I will look for some trainers that are more flexible as a start…
