Today’s show is about persistence…
We were told that we wouldn’t be able to find organic food in Argentina by many people–even by people who live here.
In fact there’s a strike right now between the government and the farmers that is making it even more difficult.
I wouldn’t take no for an answer.
So here’s a show about how we found what we were looking for… if you can find it here, you can find it anywhere!
So by the way, here are some listings of organic food places in Argentina for future Buenos Aires travelers, so you don’t have to go through what I have…
Bio Restaurant – Organic, Vegan, (Kind of Raw) Friendly Restaurant in Buenos Aires – http://www.guiaoleo.com.ar/detail.php?ID=539
El Rincon Organico -Organic Food Co-op in Buenos Aires. Order for pick up on Tuesdays. http://www.elrinconorganico.com.ar/
Pura Vida Juice Bar – Juice bar in Buenos Aires. Located in Palermo. Small, but hip to superfoods like spirulina and maca. Plus you can get a wheatgrass shot here too! http://www.puravidabuenosaires.com/
La Esquina de las Flores – Organic food shop and cafe. Great food, vegan and kind of raw friendly. http://www.esquinadelasflores.com.ar/ingles.htm
Your question of the day: What is the name, city and website (if they have one) of your favorite organic cafe, store or restaurant?
Live Awesome!

Kevin,
I’ve actually got a favorite organic restaurant of mine, but it isnt located in Buffalo where I live, but rather in Ithaca, New York. It’s called, The Smart Monkey Cafe. An excellent place to grab a healthy meal such as a sandwich or a fresh salad. I highly recommend it to anyone and hey, I wouldnt mind seeing you check it out for yourself Kevin.

Three Sisters Cafe in Broad Ripple Village,
Indianapolis, IN. If you’re coming to Indy, e-mail me. I’m sure they have a website, just don’t know it.
Love the daily videos. Your humor and upbeat delivery of pertinent info, make them a daily highlight. Thanks for the recent upper arm exercises…I needed them!
Enjoy Buenos Aires!

We live very near Greenwood Indiana. Unfortunately, there is nothing in our area that we know of. Now, if we drive an hour to the North of Indianapolis or an hour South to Bloomington, there is alot to offer. But who wants to drive an hour when you need to shop?

Unfortunately, one of the best places I have eaten isn’t where I live, but here it is:
Cafe Gratitude-100% raw and organic
San Francisco, CA
http://www.cafegratitude.com
Where I do live, in Denver,CO, there is a place called Mercury Cafe that does serve mostly organic and local fare. But not a lot of vegetarian or raw choices, still good food though. Another choice in the Denver area is Watercourse foods, vegetarian fare, but not a lot of local, organic, or raw.
Enjoy the co-op in Argentina Kevin and AnneMarie (and firends). Support your local co-op, ours had to close down due to the big businesses.
Much health and happiness,
Chris

That’s really good to know…I speak Spanish and have been dying to visit South America for ages, but money’s been an issue. Spain’s much closer for me, and even with that being a western country, I had to do my research to find things I could eat.
Anyways, someday I too shall visit South America…but I’m looking more at Ecuador, when I can justify spending that much money!

It is easy to find organic in a country, but very difficult to find it a two or three tier city. It maybe impossible to find certified organic in a village.
I am in India and I just cannot find organic food in my city(a three tier city).
But there are some farms which do not use pesticides but they are not certified.
Now a friend of mine has take a huge land and is going to produce organic, veggies.
The best part is that he is not going to make it available through the common market or sell it to hotels. He is going to sell it cheap and is not going to certify it too, but he will make it available only to those who really are health concious. People like you and me who would rather not eat than have non-organic.
Well now I have no choice.
I see only one option for me, is to buy or take a contract for a few farms and make them supply organic food.

Hi Kevin:
My husband and I stayed in the RECOLETTA district of Buenos Aires. We did not have the cute little apartment and kitchen that you had. Unfortunately, that meant a lot of eating out, which was challenging. You guys are doing it right…
Have you checked out the Saturday Craft Market in the RECOLETTA…. IT’S A MUST DO….
Don’t forget to tour the Buenos Aires Cemetery. It’s incredible.. Eva Duarte Peron is buried there, along with many other famous Argentines..
We stayed in a hotel overlooking the cemetery one night.. That was interesting!

Hi Kevin,
If you or any of your readers venture up to Ontario, Canada, there is a nice little town called Guelph, an hour northwest of Toronto, which is famous for its agriculture, and the University of Guelph which specializes in Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine. There are a few wonderful organic places here, one being the Stone Store where you can get all kinds of organic, and specialty foods that are gluten free, dairy free, you name it. We even have a raw food restaurant called W.O.W cafe, which stands for Wild Organic Way Cafe but the real reason it is called W.O.W is because you never stop saying WOW when you eat there. The owner is an amazing chef. The University of Guelph even has a new degree program specializing in organic farming and we have an organic co-op as well as a few delivery services that specialize in local organic produce…especially in the summer. You can check them out on the web at HomefieldOrganics.com. We also have a Whole Foods Market, in Oakville, which is about an hour away from Guelph. Summer is a nice time to visit Canada. Hope you will have a chance someday to come and enjoy it. Take care. Hope you’re both having a nice time in Argentina.

Santa Barbara, California has the Natural Cafe with some very delicious and very healthy dishes. Local organic produce is brought in. For a step up in your meal, Spiritland is a fantastic restaurant also serving local organic produce.
Cheers to Quality Food!

There is an organic raw and life food restaurant in Buenos Aires which it seems you missed.
It is called VERDE LLAMA and its address is: Jorge Newbery 3623 in the Chacarita neighborhood and downtown on Avenida Santa Fé (GalerÃa Bond Street.)

Great segment – I am struggling (but persisting) when it comes to finding organic ingredients in Buenos Aires. With the amount of exporting from Mendoza of organics, I sometimes think it’s easier to find organic Argentine produce in NA and Europe than it is right here in Buenos Aires…
Anyway, to answer your question above: my favorite organic/macro restaurant ANYWHERE is Mana in New York City. http://www.manaorganic.com/

Kevin, I really don’t know how I could find your blog, its fantastic for sure, just cant stop laughing about the video, Palermo Rules !!! Let me tell you that you gays found “the” organic store. There is not much more places like this in Buenos Aires.
Well the thing is that I’m Argentinean, and actually find my self starting an organic trading company. We like to be the bridge for organic producers from our country and region towards the world. This project is still green, starting the webpage design, you know, and would be great to count with your experience and know-how in the moment when we will start contacts with USA organic deal firms. From here and now I extend my hand and help to you and your project, and if you need and want something from Argentina, mean info or just stuff let me know !!!
Keep in touch.
Best regards and good luck!

I’m adding one more to the list of places that we can get organic food from in Buenos Aires.
Tallo Verde
http://www.talloverde.com/
I’m waiting for my delivery tomorrow afternoon and I’m sooo excited about it!
I live in Aspen, CO. The restaurant inside the book store on Main St is organic and the food is good but not very filling. A much better option is Eco Goddess in Carbondale 30 miles away.
Somebody already mentioned the Mercury Cafe in Denver, one of the most charming places I’ve been to anywhere if you are into music and/or arts. Nice food too!
