I get this question often…

“I’ve tried everything to change my health–natural cures, alternative medicine, raw food, vegan diets–and nothing works. What do you suggest?”

Here is your answer in the form of a video essay (I got some great response from the last one, so I figure I’ll try again!)

I suggest an approach that takes the guesswork out of health, go ahead a take a look…

Question of the Day: Clearly my hobby–or brainchill–is the rubix cube. What hobby do you do to chill out during the day?

And yes, I said MSM for skin and nails :-)

    Hey Kevin…

A couple of my clients have this issue — for me it doesn’t matter what system you use or what equipment… so much of anyone’s success in anything in life is dependent on their thought processes and beliefs. If you go on a diet with great intention to succeed but your underlying belief is something like “I’ve tried diets before and it won’t work”… sure as God made little green apples, it won’t work.

With most things in life, you need a multifaceted approach to succeed.

    Just my thoughts
    Jeanne

    WOW!
    All that & manual-intellectual dexterity/hand-eye coordination, too!
    “-)
To answer the question of the day:
Chilling out, for me, is solving the world’s problems, one at a time… A pothole… an increase in crime… lower foot traffic at shops… an elevation in unoccupied housing… fun-fun-fun, with lasting results and “ripple effects”!
It’s also fun to “veg out” edging the walkways on both sides of the lane, as far as your body will let you go! Initially, it pleasantly shocks the heck out of the neighbors, then, it leads them to contribute in their own way/s!
Taking the pole pruner to all the trees, as far as your body will take you, is a fun way to “veg out”, some days!
Loading up discarded tree trunks, heaped roadside, and delivering them to some ancient folk with a fireplace, but no money to buy wood for it was a fun way to “veg out”, one day… and, ANY DAY wood’s spotted, just laying there…
Popping in to the Children’s Ward of the local county hospital, carting the balloon decorations from events otherwise popped and tossed is a really fun way to “veg out” ~ But, the nurses won’t let you in the ward ~ “Security”, you know!
Stopping by the local preschool to read to the students is a fun was to “veg out” ~ especially if you have your own book you’re familiar with!
READING is an EXCELLENT way to “veg out”!
EXPLORING is an EXCELLENT way to “veg out”!
Repetitively drilling tiny holes in pruned branches, to provide Solitary Bee brooding habitats gives a kind of Zen “veg out”. Tap, Reposition, Tap, Reposition, Tap, Reposition…
Come to think of it, submitting comments HERE is a new way to “veg out”, too, Kevin! “-)

    As for the other:
Eat better; be more active; think positive; REST REST REST, VEG OUT ~ Yeah, yeah, yeah, at $160/hr world-renowned Gestalt Dr. Todd Burley is working on getting me to lay in a hammock and just BE ~ It’ll happen ~ LATER!
Right now, I’ve got STUFF to DO!
    Isn’t that the crux?
There’s no SECRET to what needs doing; the obstacle to success seems to be PRIORITIZING…
Exploring the local hiking trails, instead of sitting in a movie…
Have some pureed goodies (strawberry banana, anyone?) instead of some godawful commercial “shake”…
LIVE ACTIVELY, instead of “killing time” in front of the “boob tube”…
Do the things that make people glad you’re in the world ~ and that make YOU glad to be part of the world!…
    I could go on & on…

Great methodology here….get experience, learn from the experience, and keep narrowing down the search for success….then it’s bound to happen. This applies to finding the right diet, finding the right exercise program, even finding the right job. It seems the people who succeed take the elements that work, keep them, and discard the elements that don’t work…all the time moving forward toward their goal. The people who DON”T succeed find one element that doesn’t work and use it as an excuse to totally quit everything….like “I didn’t like the taste of that particular healthy recipe so instead of modifying the recipe to my liking (which may take some thought) I’ll just go back to eating doughnuts because that’s my only alternative.” The successful person would say….”I see the benefit of eating this way, so I’ll just make one little change that will satisfy my taste buds and still move me toward my goal.” Same with an exercise program. Instead of “I couldn’t do it because….” the successful person says “I’ll slow down my pace or modify the exercise until I’m up to speed.” This is the ability to analyze and adapt. It’s a hallmark of success.

Every day is different. But most days I do start with a walk or run, about 3 miles, in the dark- 5:00AM in Wisconsin is dark. After work sometimes my grandbabies and I hunt in the woods for treasures like owl pellets or cool rocks. If it’s raining and warm we jump in puddles, if it’s cold and raining we play hide and seek in the house and run and make noise (stuff most grown-ups don’t allow). We usually rest with a book (books with songs are the current favorite), until those little eyes give up the fight :0) We love to do the dishes together, because the hand egg beater makes great suds. We pick stuff from the garden to eat, and sometimes from the lawn, although Grandmama is the only one who thinks dandelions taste good. We love to paint, on anything, with anything. Making frozen fruit “ice-cream” with the juicer is a very special activity. Singing passes alot of time, ‘cuz you know there is a song for everything. Making a huge pile of leaves and then jumping in them… Snow men, snow forts, snow angels, sledding… Perhaps if no children were around, I’d stiffen up, because it’s hard to get this much exercise without “em.

To chill out I usually lie down and listen to some meditation audio. On one of your videos, episode #3, you mentioned that you listen to the CenterPointe soundtracks. I found the Holosync tracks to be pretty relaxing at times. I also listen to a variety of other meditation tracks that feature rainforest and ocean sounds. Those will put me to sleep!

I’m also an avid listener to electronic/trance music. I’ll listen to that when I want to “phase out”.

Sometimes I find that playing a musical instrument will also help to relieve stress. I play a little self-taught piano and guitar every now and then.
